Is being a short man equivalent to a women who is overweight?

DreamChaser23 · 09/07/2020 17:03

i had this discussion with someone and I feel there is some truth in it.

Men who are overweight get away a lot more than women who are overweight I.e. relationships aren't as negatively affected compared to women.

And short women in height don't suffer as much as short men. Just look at how the media made people believe that most ideal men are meant to be tall over 6 feet. When in reality the average height of men is around 5 foot 9 IN the US and 5 foot 10 UK.

Being a short man and a women who is overweight does make it harder when it comes to relationships

Just curious- how would you feel if someone set you up on a blind date and you didn’t fancy them at all then told you “but it’s such a SHAME! They’re so lovely and kind and attractive! you really are missing out here” . This is the crux of the problem- you can’t control whom you like, no matter how bizarre or arbitrary your preferences are, you cannot make yourself be attracted to someone.[/quote]
I'd agree it was a shame we hadn't hit it off, and leave it at that. But I honestly wouldn't reject a man who was fantastic for being merely ten inches taller.

Obviously this petite lady was entitled to like what she liked and as I said, you can't reason anyone into finding someone attractive. I just thought it was weird that ten, even eleven, inches of height difference wasn't enough but the switch magically flipped at 12. I couldn't see how she'd even be able to measure it!

Tall men make me feel uncomfortable, don't know why but I rule out men over 5ft 10. I prefer 5ft 4 - 5ft 8. I'm 5ft 4.

"I’ve asked around, and the most common explanation I get for female height preference is that they like to feel “surrounded.” They want to hug someone bigger than them, lie next to someone large, someone who can put their arms around them and really…surround. So then I had to ask around and find out what the fuckthatmeant. The best I could come up with is that tall men make women feel protected. Comforted, cozy, and looked out for. Height, apparently, subconsciously offers that. It better be subconscious, because I’m 6’2″ and I’ll tell you right now ladies, I ain’t protecting you from shit. If a murderer, or a burglar, or even a strong wind should enter your room in the middle of the night, me and my 74 inches are getting the hell out of there. At least a short guy can fit under the bed, so there’s a decent chance you’ll have someone to hide with. I’d keep that in mind."

Pikachubaby · 10/07/2020 15:25

It makes no sense to compare short men to overweight women. The women can change width, the man can’t change height.

Being a short man compares better with a tall woman

At 6ft1 I don’t reckon I’d get many dates (same as that 5ft guy) but there is nothing I can do To change it...

I don’t agree they are comparable- look at catwalk models. All desirable.

Pikachubaby · 10/07/2020 15:30

But what about the non catwalk looking 6ft ladies? The Miranda Harts?

IcedPurple · 10/07/2020 15:35

@Pikachubaby

But what about the non catwalk looking 6ft ladies? The Miranda Harts?
Miranda Hart is an average looking woman who is about 8 inches taller than the average British woman.

A man 8 inches shorter than the average British man would be about 5 foot 1.

I would say an average looking woman of Miranda Hart's height would fare considerably better in the dating world than an average looking man of 5 foot 1.

Russellbrandshair · 10/07/2020 15:37

You could say what about non attractive tall men!
Height is regarded as a generally good thing for both genders.

I agree

Pikachubaby · 10/07/2020 15:37

Maybe

I just know from personal experience what it feels like to not get picked at the dance/ball ever Grin

And how men would belligerently accuse me of “being too tall” just for daring to stand next to them

Chanjer · 10/07/2020 15:39

IRL interactions I've never been aware of my height

OLD on the other hand, gives a very different perspective

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 10/07/2020 15:41

@Pikachubaby

I'm 5'10" so I do get what you mean. However, there will always be men who dont find me attractive. Thats fine, because I personally dont find shorter men attractive. I have tried dating shorter men in the past and have had very negative experiences because they constantly told me not to wear heels etc so the height issue was very much in their minds, not mine.
A lot of it is confidence, I now wear heels if I want and people tell me I look great and I no longer care what others think. I cannot help the fact I am tall and people will either accept me for who I am or they can piss off. It has never held me back in dating as I have found I can attract men easily and I really think part of that is confidence. Confidence (not arrogance) goes a long way.

I'm not saying they aren't beautiful, but their job isn't to titillate men and they don't resemble the women I've seen in stuff that is geared towards getting men off.
Russellbrandshair · 10/07/2020 15:46

Well if that’s your criteria then women with small breasts, brunettes, overweight women, women without lip fillers will also fall into this category. I mean- if you are referring to typical page 3/ loaded type men’s mags or the porn look

They're not "my" criteria...I don't produce or consume that content. I've just seen it, and the women generally are not extremely tall and very thin with hard cheekbones. Hell, I've been invited to be involved in that stuff, and I'm definitely no catwalk model. I assure you there are plenty of brunettes and small breasted women in there, too. Actually I have been surprised at how wide the net is cast for glamour modelling and so on. Like I said, they've asked me to do it, ffs.

Yes.

Plus, people here are using examples of extremely tall women. These women do exist of course, but they are a tiny minority.

Better examples would be the likes of Charlize Theron, Julia Roberts, Kate Middleton, or the late Princess Diana. All tall but not to an extreme, and all considered very attractive. Being moderately tall for a woman is generally considered a good thing.

TheMarzipanDildo · 10/07/2020 15:54

I’m 5’2. I like short men, and stocky men. There are plenty of us out there I’m sure.

Not sure what height has to do with it though.

If these skinny models with 'hard cheekbones' were 5 inches shorter, would they be "in stuff that is geared towards getting men off"? Probably not. Not that's that's any sort of achievement, mind.

They might be closer...there definitely seems to be a defined interest in petite women. I agree the overall aesthetic is different though. Once again, I'm not saying these women aren't beautiful. Just that they aren't selected for male titillation and they generally have a different aesthetic to those who are. I wouldn't let Page 3 be anyone's sole window into what's out there.
TheMarzipanDildo · 10/07/2020 15:59

I was guilty of only providing anecdotal evidence in my post. My point was that short men and overweight women might have fewer people that fancy them, but that doesn’t mean that no one will fancy them. Who needs a mile long queue?

SkinnyChicky · 10/07/2020 16:00

Be more inclined to say its closer to a woman being very tall. You can fix fat, not height.

I don't need it, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't like it.

Glamour modelling uses a particular image though, it looks porny and I’ve never seen a glamour model with very small A breasts! If you google glamour model you will see very similar images. A very narrow range of “beauty”. Also some glamour models are tall!

Sayhi8 · 10/07/2020 16:13

I think if you did a survey, the findings would be that a majority of women would prefer taller men and the majority of men would prefer slimmer women but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t many people out there who would like shorter men or bigger ladies.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 10/07/2020 16:16

I find this odd because I thought long legs were a desired aspect of the female body- hence the trope of the tall swedish blonde being attractive
