Ok, so I have been following SW for a week and have lost nothing! Exactly the same weight as last week. What am I doing wrong or does SW not suit everyone. Here is a typical SW day for me:-

Breakfast: 3 eggs scrambled in Frylight, tomatoes and mushrooms fried in Frylight, slice of wholemeal bread from a small loaf (HexB), cup of tea with milk from allowance (HexA)

Lunch: Batchelors Pasta N Sauce Cheese & Broccoli made with water (2.5 syns), jacket potato and a huge salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, beetroot, onions) balsamic vinegar

Dinner: Either syn free Quorn lasagne with HexA 30g cheddar cheese, salad and maybe syn free chips cooked in Airfryer or syn free Quorn curry and rice, or jacket potato with salad, or roast Quorn dinner with Frylight potatoes and loads of steamed vegetables

Snacks: Fruit, syn free homemade soup made with loads of speed veg, sometimes homemade crisps in AirFryer, Fage yoghurt with frozen fruit

Help! 😩

Not RTFT sorry but what standard iut to me is that for lunch I could only eat one of those things.
I do intermittent fasting and afte trying so many diets my whole life its the only things thats worked.
And I do actually quite often have one fo the three things you've had for lunch so theres no need to cut out the carbs but you are definitely eating way too much to be losing.

kateandme · 07/07/2020 17:29

diets dont work.its a business.designed to make you succeed then fail and have to come back.ie money money money.the guy who runs it was once on tv in interview where he was asked did he realise the 95% failure rate.and he laughed and said yes its good isnt it!

MrsAvocet · 07/07/2020 17:41

@Dixiechickonhols

Best thing I've done. 5 stone off in 8 months, maintained for almost a year. Eat healthy food never hungry. No requirement to eat muller lights or big bowls of pasta. I'm 45 and had been obese for years. Size 20 to a 10. I eat lots of lean protein, veg, fruit, protein yoghurt. Limited bread. Small amount of chocolate daily. Do have carbs if I fancy.
I have found similar. I've lost just over 2 of the 3 stone I need to lose in 6 months at typically 1 or 2 pounds a week. I won't say I've never been hungry, but generally I'm ok. I've never been to a meeting so no sanctimonious people or dodgy scales and I've not bought any branded foods. What I have done is massively reduce my bread intake (I usually stick to my healthy B allowance), increased my fruit and veg intake, swapped normal yoghurts for skyr, increased lean protein intake, swapped snacks like biscuits for fruit/veg apart from the occasional treat and reduced processed foods a lot. I used to use a lot of jars and packets and now cook virtually everything from first principles. I do use the recipes and can't say I have found myself cooking with any weird ingredients. To be fair I haven't really tried the desserts as I'm happy to have fruit, yoghurt or a small portion of ice cream, so maybe its the sweet stuff that people are talking about. But the main courses I have tried have all just contained normal foods. And apart from one chicken thing that was really dry, they've all been nice and the rest of the family are happy with the recipes too. I do give them much bigger portions than me, but we all eat the same and there are no complaints even from the grumpy teens. Of course none of that is rocket science and I could have done it on my own, in theory at least. But I am someone who needs structure. Filling in my daily diary and counting stuff works for me. If I am tempted as I pass the bread bin or biscuit cupboard getting the app out to log it will frequently make me think "actually, I'm not hungry, I am bored and I don't need this food". I've been out for a walk in the rain today. I would probably have talked myself out of it were it not for the fact that I'm logging it. I'm not obsessing over my diet but I am not eating without thinking any more either. Obviously it won't work for everyone. It depends on your personality, why you are overweight etc but it seems to be working for me. I have tried and failed to lose weight just be counting calories on my own several times before, but this system just suits me. I'm not denying the reality of other people's experiences, but they are nothing like mine. I am definitely eating more healthily as well as consuming less calories and exercising more since I started SW.
RiverCrossing · 07/07/2020 17:47

OP I have read your responses to these replies, are you actually paying and going to group? Some of your replies make it seem like you’re not completely clear on the plan. Frylight isn’t syn free, it used to be but not any more. You can sometimes have 2 x HEXA choices. If you’re going to group then do a food diary religiously and talk it through with your consultant.

I lost 5 stone on slimming world following the book to the letter over 10 months.

claireb707 · 07/07/2020 17:50

diets dont work - SW / WW etc are a massive con - syns are a pile of shite and are completely made up and random..

I did the bodycoach plan 2 years ago - lost 2 dress sizes, 27 inches and 8kg, it was too much exercise for me so have switched to just calorie counting (but keeping to the meal principles and doing some exercise) and have maintained since.

I also follow Rebelfit on FB - cant remember who said it but he definitely doesnt recommend fast food

EdinaMonsoon · 07/07/2020 17:56

I know nothing about SW but I do know that diets do not work. They feed into yo-yo loss/gain cycles and are rarely sustainable in the long term. BTW, this conclusion comes from research from my PhD...not just a diet industry bashing opinion. You need to entirely overhaul your thinking about food. Eat for health and the weight loss will follow.

Similarly, the way in which we think about ourselves has a significant impact on our success with weight loss & exercise. Attempting to lose weight with a negative mindset - eg I hate my body - doesn't make for a happy or successful period of weight loss. We're more likely to overeat, have an unhealthy focus/borderline obsession with food & calorific content and a greater sense of deprivation. This might sound like hippy nonsense but it's based on sport science & health psychology research.

Also, are you exercising OP? That is a hell of a lot of food for someone not working out. I workout and take an hour's walk every day (dog owner) and I would not eat that much. You really don't need a baked potato with pasta. Also, processed meals like Batchelors Pasta & Sauce and Quorn lasagne are really not high in nutritional value - no matter what some diet program tells you. You need to look at your intake more carefully. Don't be afraid of healthy fats such as avocado, nuts & seeds, olive oil etc. Increase those, decrease the carbs, cook from scratch where possible, make sure you're getting enough protein and exercise and you will begin to see a difference.

mumof2exhausted · 07/07/2020 18:28

Having pasta AND jacket potato for lunch sounds bonkers. Sorry but at the end of the day it’s all about calories in / calories out. But also you can’t be on a “diet” for just one week and be ready to give up!

slashlover · 07/07/2020 18:36

OP, why did you choose to do SW? You're quoting and agreeing with many negative posts.

derenstar · 07/07/2020 18:51

I’ve done a lot of diets over the years and Slimming Worlds is the only plan that I can see myself sticking to long term as it’s been very easy. Ive been following the plan since January and to date I have lost 2.5 stone and I am still losing. What I have noticed is that I lose about 1lb-1.5lbs every other week. It’s slow but steady which is very reassuring.

However, I don’t think SW works for everyone as our bodies are all very different. Intermittent Fasting didn’t work for me but its been amazing for my mum and my best friend. It doesn’t mean IF is an awful diet.

OP, it may be that SW isn’t for you, it could be too early to tell after 1 week or you need to re-visit your choices. Everything you’ve listed is on plan so but perhaps you just need to make some adjustments. For example, try some overnight oats made with non fat Greek yoghurt and fruit for breakfast. It’s filling and delicious. For lunch try some home made pasta with with roasted veg and feta cheese and a side salad. I find if I eat enough till I’m full, I don’t need to snack so much so I can use my syns for proper fats in my cooking. For example I made beef stir fry for dinner this evening. I used a table spoon of oil (6 syns) but made enough for the 4 of us to have twice, so 8 portions.

Personally, I’m pleased I’ve found an eating plan that allows me to lose weight with very minimum effort. I have never used Frylight or touched a miller yoghurt! I do love to cook and to eat so for me, SW works great.

KatherineParr4 · 07/07/2020 19:03

Is anyone doing SW online? Why do you have to sign up for three months as well? What if it isn’t right and you are then locked into paying for rheee months.

KatherineParr4 · 07/07/2020 19:04

Sorry posted whilst I was trying to edit!

HavingAMoan · 07/07/2020 19:05

I used to do it online but don’t anymore as you can get the information for free elsewhere.

KatherineParr4 · 07/07/2020 19:06

Please tell me where!

HarryHarry · 07/07/2020 19:10

My MIL has had great success with SW. TBH it sounds like you’re just eating too much and too many of the wrong things. You don’t need 3 eggs for breakfast, just have 1. You don’t need pasta out of a packet - that’s just junk that won’t satisfy your hunger or give you the energy and nutrients you need. You certainly don’t need that AND a potato at lunch. It’s really just about making better choices.

HavingAMoan · 07/07/2020 19:13

@KatherineParr4

Please tell me where!
Fatgirlskinny website has lists of all the free foods and healthy extras. Facebook is the main place, there are endless slimming world related groups.

I'm the same but I did WW. I lost 6.5 stones and went from size 18 to size 6/8.

So, for those who say it doesn't work ..... come tell me why Blush

Todaywewilldobetter · 07/07/2020 19:18

I lost 4ST on SW but regained the lot. What is clear is that it indulges the greed in me. It doesn't address it. Tell me I can eat all the meat and I will. Same with the biscuits and the cake.
The more stringent WW green plan makes me take my portion control in hand and I'm finally learning when to stop.
But I won't ever submit to the weird artificial sweetener obsessions or the odd combos. I cook and eat actual food!
I agree though, you might want to not eat pasta and potatoes together!

Piglet89 · 07/07/2020 19:33

@CorianderLord always someone on MN ready to come on and rubbish your suggestion with some
dismissive comment when you’re trying to help and, today, you are that person. Thanks for that.

@insomniasucks isn’t able to follow that plan but she might be able to glean some ideas from it, perhaps replacing meat with some high protein vegetable equivalents. I explained the general approach of eating fewer than 50g carbs a day and I reckon that’s good advice.

Failing that, I have found fasting diets very effective (5:2 and so on). But they take tremendous strength of will when you first start!

IwantToDatePicard · 07/07/2020 19:39

It works for me, just lost my first stone.Smile. To me its a back to basics approach - i can have one chocolate bar as a treat (using syns) but i can't have 4 chocolate bars which is what i used to do!

There are so many different options out there, just need to find the one that suits you - good luck.

Jumpjumpjumper · 07/07/2020 19:48

Op, I have spent over two decades hating my weight. Tried SW. WW. MFP.

Calorie counting was the only thing that worked, but I'm the laziest person with regard to cooking, because I hate it. Then I'd stop following because I couldn't be bothered.
So I'm now doing something else.... Not sure if I'm allowed to mention! I don't work for them, it's not a MLM. But they basically send everything you need for a week's worth of food. I do very little prep, if any.
Although, I did pick a couple of meals that needed prepping and cooking and they were lovely so have selected them again next week.

In two weeks I've lost 5lbs. I'd prefer a loss of something like a stone 😂 but know it's a slow process.

It's also teaching me hunger signals and not over eating. Last night I had 300 cals left over and I was too full to eat any more. Usually I'd have forced something because I could. Not because I needed it.

Good luck.

MuddlingThrough1724 · 07/07/2020 19:51

I've lost weight on slimming World, but you do need to use portion control and common sense. I wouldnt dream of having pasta, jacket potato and salad for lunch. Surely just one of those things is a normal lunch on its own? 😬

insomniasucks · 07/07/2020 19:59

@slashlover

OP, why did you choose to do SW? You're quoting and agreeing with many negative posts.

Because so many friends have had success from it. It just isn't for me.

Omg yes! A lightbulb moment..."it indulges the greed in me" absolutely this. On a normal day I wouldn't dream of having pasta and potatoes together but because I don't eat meat or fish and can't really use butter or cheese I'm stuck with cottage cheese or baked beans. Did someone say on an earlier post that Quorn contains a lot of sugar and is not that healthy? I only ever use the plain mince or pieces.

You see, I would be so sick eating that much chocolate but I'm fine with carbs. I guess we're all different Smile
