To think that Slimming World just doesn't work

Ok, so I have been following SW for a week and have lost nothing! Exactly the same weight as last week. What am I doing wrong or does SW not suit everyone. Here is a typical SW day for me:-

Breakfast: 3 eggs scrambled in Frylight, tomatoes and mushrooms fried in Frylight, slice of wholemeal bread from a small loaf (HexB), cup of tea with milk from allowance (HexA)

Lunch: Batchelors Pasta N Sauce Cheese & Broccoli made with water (2.5 syns), jacket potato and a huge salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, beetroot, onions) balsamic vinegar

Dinner: Either syn free Quorn lasagne with HexA 30g cheddar cheese, salad and maybe syn free chips cooked in Airfryer or syn free Quorn curry and rice, or jacket potato with salad, or roast Quorn dinner with Frylight potatoes and loads of steamed vegetables

Snacks: Fruit, syn free homemade soup made with loads of speed veg, sometimes homemade crisps in AirFryer, Fage yoghurt with frozen fruit

Help! 😩

Haven't tried it myself but my friend has recently lost 3st on slimming world and swears by it and thinks its fab. It took a lot longer than a week though 🤣

Bluesheep8 · 07/07/2020 15:47

No one is going to be considered suitable for weight loss surgery when they only need to lose a stone!

Veganforlife · 07/07/2020 15:55

Never worked for me so
Saying that ,I couldn’t eat that amount of food in one day ,you have 2 main meals there

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 07/07/2020 15:56

It's all the 'snacks'. You're eating about six meals a day! Yoghurt and fruit is breakfast, not a snack. Soup is lunch or dinner, not a snack. Eat three times a day and drink plenty of water.

DontWantToAdult · 07/07/2020 15:58

I think you are putting to much pressure on yourself for someone 1 stone overweight

Who told you , that you are 1 stone overweight?

When i put my weight and height into the bmi it told me 3 stone.... But i still need to lose much more than that

Have you got a healthy BMI

vanillandhoney · 07/07/2020 15:58

@Burpalot

Controversial op but if you are feeling deprived on that diet and at those quantities you might want to consider weight loss surgery. Even old me before I lost nine stone would consider that to be a lot of food for a day.
What are you talking about?

She's one stone overweight! Weight surgery indeed Grin

Burpalot · 07/07/2020 15:59

Oh ok op fair enough! I assumed that if that meal plan was your idea of a diet youd be the size of a house!

Burpalot · 07/07/2020 15:59

Sorry missed where she said she only needed to lose one stone.

Piglet89 · 07/07/2020 16:16

@insomniasucks my husband has lost a stone over about 6 weeks and he does low-carbing, which he kick-started using the diabetes U.K. plan. Combined with cycling probably at least 4 times a week (probably about 30k each time).

Here’s a link to the meal plan.

www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/enjoy-food/eating-with-diabetes/meal-plans-/low-carb

He doesn’t follow this any more as some of the recipes are a bit of a faff. He tries to stick to fewer than 50g carbohydrates per day. He says he’s amazed by the results, doesn’t find it that hard and isn’t that hungry. For him (and several PPs on the thread have suggested this might be your issue) the obstacle hindering weight loss was too many carbs.

Allnamesaregone · 07/07/2020 16:17

The other thing I hated with SW was all the fake type recipes, a lot of which seemed to involve fat free yoghurt. Nowadays I still use the full fat stuff just less of it. And avocado is considered spawn of the devil. I ended up swapping the equivalent in calories for my HEB.
So if you have to modify a diet in this way then surely something is wrong with it?

HavingAMoan · 07/07/2020 16:25

Avocado is the spawn of the devil just for being avocado. Grin

I found that SW encouraged me to eat more fruit and veg, I eat way more when I’m sticking to the plan and that can’t be a bad thing.

But you can’t snack on things that are essentially meals, like soup. Have a look on fb at slimming world related groups and see what everyone else is doing. There’s a lot of hints and tips out there. Instagram is also good for inspiration.

SophieB100 · 07/07/2020 16:27

How much do I hate thee Slimming World, let me count the ways
I hate thy need to banish avocados.
I hate thy desire to flog hifi bars.
I hate thine obsession with Muller Frights
I hate thou advising unlimited amounts of SW chips, sprinkled in Fry Shite
I hate thine need to encourage eating a lot of processed carbs
I hate thy use of "syns", healthy extras and free food
I hate thine SW frozen foods supplied by Iceland, that have more
calories in them than supermarket equivalents.
I hate the thought of being weighed by someone who weighs twice
as much as me.
I hate thy clapping because someone has maintained or lost a pound.

Viviennemary · 07/07/2020 16:28

I loathed the meetings. Virtuous looking types sitting munching special slimming world products. There was one extra annoying person who always lost a lot and got praised to the skies. I was at a supermarket checkout a couple of years later and thought I I know that person on the till but couldnt think how. . She was twice as fat as she was before she started It really is a scam.

Reader1984 · 07/07/2020 16:29

Have fruit and fat free yoghurt for breakfast every day. Then follow SW rest of the day. That should help.

JovialNickname · 07/07/2020 16:44

Hi OP! I don't know if this has been mentioned before but have you tried the Atkins diet? I don't endorse any particular diet or way of eating so I am unbiased, but it does sound perfect for you. It is a qualitative not quantative diet, which in layman's terms means you can GENUINELY eat as much as you want of approved food (protein, fats and veg, cheese is limited to large but not overly large portions though). So you can have 3 eggs, high meat sausage, bacon, tomato and a few mushrooms all fried in proper oil for breakfast; duck for dinner and steak for tea if you like. As much butter, mayo, oil etc as you want. No carbs though! It's good for people with big appetites, might work better for you than SW x

She can't follow that though as she's vegetarian

ginsparkles · 07/07/2020 16:50

I've done it, lost 3 stone and have not put it back on. I no longer follow the plan, I do 5:2 for other benefits. But slimming world can work for some people. It won't be the miracle cure for everyone. Stick with it OP, give it time.

gingganggooleywotsit · 07/07/2020 16:52

Only thing that has worked for me is following my Fitness pal app religiously and being completely honest about what I put in my food diary. I've tried so many things and that was the only thing that worker week in week out.

TeddyGizmo · 07/07/2020 16:56

Salads are always huge on MN.

Dixiechickonhols · 07/07/2020 16:57

Best thing I've done. 5 stone off in 8 months, maintained for almost a year. Eat healthy food never hungry. No requirement to eat muller lights or big bowls of pasta. I'm 45 and had been obese for years. Size 20 to a 10. I eat lots of lean protein, veg, fruit, protein yoghurt. Limited bread. Small amount of chocolate daily. Do have carbs if I fancy.

ProfessionalWeirdo · 07/07/2020 16:57

@hadtojoin

I was also suspicious of their scales. Some weeks almost all of us had stayed the same or gained weight, ( dispite what our own scales said) then the next week most of us had lost. One of the local leaders was actually sacked for altering the scales.
A friend of mine had a hospital appointment the day before a SW meeting. The hospital weighed her on their scales, which are extrememly accurate. Next day, the SW scales showed her as 3lb heavier. When she pointed this out to the leader, the leader just looked very embarrassed and couldn't explain the discrepancy.

We both left SW soon after that.

I've always wanted to do the Atkins diet but being a veggie restricts me.

Dixiechickonhols · 07/07/2020 17:00

Losing on Slimmingworld I would always have my healthy extra B so eg 40g oats. Then I would have carbs lunch or dinner not both, sometimes no carbs. Easiest way to add 1/3 speed (veg or salad) to meal as recommended on slimmingworld is to swap the carb for veg. I'd never have pasta and jacket spud in one meal. Averaged 2lb a week.

Dixiechickonhols · 07/07/2020 17:04

Have you got current book OP? Emphasis is very much on eat to appetite and 1/3 plate speed each meal which obviously cuts portion of higher calorie food.

HavingAMoan · 07/07/2020 17:05

I’ve never been to group, I weigh myself on my own scales.
