To not be impressed by Shepard's huts in gardens.

The sight of them is now giving me the rage. It feels like every garden in some areas has an elevated shed on wheels stuck in the corner. The early adopters sheds have a tatty bit of colour faded bunting attached.
No, I do not want to pay a premium to sleep in one on holiday. Cramped, ill thought out, not a quirky, cool, one-off experience.
YANBU Shepard's Huts are not impressive, they give me the rage too.
YABU Garden Shepard's Hut are adorable, get out the bunting, I'm envious.

@YoTeQuieroInfinito

I just don't understand this thing of calling things other people like but you don't "twatty" and "wanky".
It’s the flip side to calling things oeopke like “fabulous‘ and “unique”.
theprincessmittens · 07/07/2020 19:56

20K for a glorified shed? Nope.

karenjkayjay · 07/07/2020 19:56

There’s none here in Basildon (well none that I’ve seen anyway ) but I would love one and would have fairy lights and bunting

Ahardyfool · 07/07/2020 20:01

Also I’ve just put solar lights bunting on my chicken shed so that makes me a total wander.

Ahardyfool · 07/07/2020 20:01

*wanker

winniestone37 · 07/07/2020 20:14

Dear god you sound delightful. Here’s a tip stop caring so much about what other people are doing and concentrate on being less of an absolute Wally.

topcat2014 · 07/07/2020 20:19

I love looking round these and all the garden sheds at burford garden centre.

Sadly my 3 bed 70s semi has a garden about the size of said shed

Callingallskeletons · 07/07/2020 20:37

Wtf is a Shepherd’s hut?

MikeUniformMike · 07/07/2020 20:49

Who is Shepard?

Nottherealslimshady · 07/07/2020 20:51

I hate when people put little holiday cottages in their garden no matter the form. Especially when they dont make it clear that you're literally in their garden. It's so uncomfortable and feels like you've got no privacy and no right to use the outside space you thought you'd paid for.

exiledfromcornwall · 07/07/2020 20:52

If people want to buy one for their own use in their own garden, that's up to them, I have no problem with that. What I do have a problem with is the trend for letting them out as holiday accommodation for vastly inflated prices. Out of interest, I just did a quick search in a location which is not particularly a tourist hot spot, 3 nights in early October for 2 people, and was quoted 300 pounds, that's 100 a night! You could stay in a nice comfy hotel for that, or an upscale B&B.

MamaGothel · 07/07/2020 21:10

I've never seen one of these in my life. They look nice, but for a holiday I would rather just stay in a static caravan. These look a little claustrophobic but I suppose it's alright if you don't have children with you.

GiraffesAreBeautiful · 07/07/2020 21:18

No idea what they are but summer houses are popular.

Wise up OP, it’s not worth wasting a post over. Is this a magazine or newspaper poll?

Live and let live. Shepherds Huts (whatever they are) aren’t spreading killer illnesses or even a “thing” in most neighbourhoods.

EcoCustard · 07/07/2020 21:23

They don’t give me the rage, my husband builds them Grin

sanityisamyth · 07/07/2020 21:27

@MikeUniformMike

Who is Shepard?
Grin
transformandriseup · 07/07/2020 21:36

I didn't know they were called that but DH and I were looking at local houses for sale and several houses had them in the gardens.

tinkerbellvspredator · 07/07/2020 21:45

@Serin Nah that's called a "Wine Shed" - as my kids (loudly) christened next doors new facilities. As in "Look they've opened the wine shed". And dont forget it also requires a constantly used BBQ for catering.

A man cave must be enclosed, preferably dark and filled with equipment that the DP of the man or woman it belongs to has no idea how it works. We have one of those.

Jellykat · 07/07/2020 21:51

We've got one here that my Step dad built, it's beautiful, with a veranda and woodburning stove.. don't rent it out though, it's used for overspill when friends/ family come to stay.

So YABU Smile

junecat · 07/07/2020 21:55

Loads of them sprung up in gardens round here. We are in the peak district and I think they could be fab in the correct location but stuck in a garden in sight of the road and all the noise associated is not a relaxing holiday experience!

stephi81 · 07/07/2020 23:52

Had to Google to find out wtf you were on about... They are lovely!!? Certainly not seen any where I am (Essex), the trend here seems to be to build a cabin in your garden (also lovely). Jealous much?

june2007 · 07/07/2020 23:54

Yes I think they are over priced, but if it,s not your thing then fine don,t stay in one, But it,s good to have options isn,t it.

Celestine70 · 08/07/2020 01:48

Yes they are expensive to stay in and not worth it, on that YANBU. But YABU being annoyed at seeing them 😂

Movinghouseatlast · 08/07/2020 07:34

Maybe I'm not charging enough for mine, I don't think it is rgat expensive- it ends up £115 a night which is about the same as a room in a b and b round here.

We have s hot tub, a full kitchen, own barbeque and huge amounts of private outdoor space so I thought that was good value. There are some near me that are £90 (no hot tub and you can't walk to a pub) so I think that's quite a cheap break.

Bl3ss3dm0m · 08/07/2020 08:05

I want to start a new AIBU but I doubt that anyone would reply! Mine would be:
AIBU in believing (until so many of the above OP's responders took her so seriously) that when a mumsnetter says "I have the rage" they are being very lighthearted, and actually mean "I am slightly annoyed, but also slightly amused at ..."?
If IANBU, then I say "I have the rage at still seeing 'signs/cushions/mugs' with Keep Calm and ...... in the shops STILL - it got boring after the first 2 months, goodness knows how many years ago" Wink

Dozer · 08/07/2020 08:11

Never seen one, apart from David Cameron’s in an article after he swanned off to his Hmm

Do they have hot running water/shower?

If not then £100 night is v v expensive IMO! And not comparable to hotel/B&B. But assume supply and demand will determine what owners can get people to pay.
