Is anyone else boycotting Tesco's for giving £80,000 to Mermaids?

Just that really... I was shocked, especially given all the news coverage there has been about the issues recently. I would have expected them to give it to an uncontroversial charity at the very least - and ideally one that most of their customers would like to support

OP posts:

Pushing drugs, give over.

God it’s boring. Go away and post on your SafeSchools website.

This is a parenting site not a transphobia platform.

FamilyOfAliens · 05/07/2020 22:53

Well there clearly were transphobic posts because a shed load have been cancelled.

How do you know what was said in those posts? Mine was deleted because I called someone a pompous arse [awaits deletion for quoting own deleted post].

Tbf she was a pompous arse Grin

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 05/07/2020 22:54

Way to skim over Le's actual point that said there clearly was transphobic posts if they've gone, and instead pick on their choice of word instead.
I've read the whole thread, there was no personal attacks which also breach guidelines, so if they've gone, it will be the transphobic ones.
As I said, won't acknowledge even if it's under your nose.

Le22Fu22 · 05/07/2020 22:54

Awwww petty insults too.

Deleted if you prefer.🙄

Will leave your to your frothing and hatred, have better things to do.😴📚

PotholeParadise · 05/07/2020 22:55

@LemonadeAndDaisyChains

They can't cope with people who don't neatly fit into their narrow minded boxes

Surely it's more narrowing people into boxes telling them who they are and what they should be doing?

I'm pretty sure that the entire reason people on this thread don't support Mermaids. Because they believe that Mermaids does exactly that.
feetfreckles · 05/07/2020 22:55

This is a parenting site. And parents are worried about what is happening to children. Normal children given untested treatment to fix something that isn't broken

I understand it can be difficult to believe that this actually happens.

FamilyOfAliens · 05/07/2020 22:56

Wrong - the post of mine that was deleted was a personal attack on the poster who told us we’re doing feminism wrong.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 05/07/2020 22:56

Missed the pompous arse one,but seeing as you're being so willfully obtuse in all your posts, and some definitely Hmm posts, there's likely to be a lot more to it than that

MouthBreathingRage · 05/07/2020 22:56

@Le22Fu22

Mermaids do push for children to have their puberty delayed, as part of their support do they not?

TheGreatWave · 05/07/2020 22:57

Is one of the ones deleted the one that mentioned the c** word?

That is in the guidelines too.

MouthBreathingRage · 05/07/2020 22:57

Oh are you a parent @Le22Fu22? You read as very young.

LangClegsInSpace · 05/07/2020 22:57

@rwoollsey

Jesus this really doesn't help prevent the whole MN being anti trans label.

Anyone who has an issue with a childrens charity needs to get a grip. This is disgusting and so are those who aren't using Tesco for supporting this charity

My aim is to help prevent harm to children.

I would prefer it if MN was not maligned because it's undeserved and I like it here. But my aim is to prevent harm to children. I don't know what your aim is but it doesn't seem to be the same as mine.

Anyone who has an issue with a childrens charity needs to get a grip.

Right, so Kids Company was fine and Samaritans Purse is fine and nobody should be bothered if NSPCC defend wanky rubbermen in their toilets. And say what you like about that Jimmy Savile but he was a great supporter of children's charities.

There are lots of wonderful children's charities and they all welcome scrutiny because the safeguarding and wellbeing of the children they serve is their top priority.

Any childrens charity that does not welcome scrutiny needs to be given a very wide berth.

MouthBreathingRage · 05/07/2020 22:58

have better things to do.

Mmm, is it Twitter or Reddit you’re reporting back to?

Tbf she was a pompous arse Grin

Unfortunately that happens a lot

Ive also seen posts deleted and links to guidelines when they were deleted for quoting deleted posts

Posts are deleted for personal attacks, links, too many reports, all sorts of reasons

And obviously for Transphobic, racist, homophobic etc posts

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 05/07/2020 22:59

Would not disagree with the pomposity either 😀

Impatiens · 05/07/2020 22:59

You just know what you are

No, you don't. Many adults don't 'know' who they are or what they really want and we're talking about children. Children explore all kinds of dreams and identities and are also highly susceptible to ideas from their peers or the internet. To exploit that tendency and tell them their confusion can be 'fixed' with drugs and surgery is a total betrayal of their trust in adults.

I have no doubt at all that creeps like Mermaids will end up in court/jail soon and their enablers will all make themselves scarce.

FamilyOfAliens · 05/07/2020 22:59

Your desperation to show there were transphobic posts that miraculously you never noticed until they had disappeared is embarrassing.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 05/07/2020 23:00

@TheGreatWave

Oh yeah

Forgot that one

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 05/07/2020 23:02

Yes, every single one of the swiss cheese upthread was just people saying things like pompous arse.
If you say so.

FamilyOfAliens · 05/07/2020 23:04

If they were transphobic posts, how come you were unable to link to a single one of them when they were visible?

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 05/07/2020 23:04

Bless

Yawn

I saw a biscuit deleted once...and that just means no comment!

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 05/07/2020 23:04

Pressed too soon - oh and I DID notice them.
As I said. they're there even if people go "no, they're not!" or "what transphobia? Report it if you see it."
So people clearly are reporting, but it's STILL "no, it wasn't there."
Even when it's under your noses.
Oookay.

blubellsarebells · 05/07/2020 23:04

"I have no doubt at all that creeps like Mermaids will end up in court/jail soon and their enablers will all make themselves scarce."
Here here. That day cannot come quick enough.
Why is Susie Green not in jail already?
Its not transphobic to think that sterilizing traumatised, gay and autistic kids is wrong.
Surely everyone knows that.
I question the motives of everyone who defends it

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 05/07/2020 23:08

If they were transphobic posts, how come you were unable to link to a single one of them when they were visible?

Why are you STILL not understanding that people are saying that it's not that they can't link, they can, but they know there's no bloody point as it's "nope, wasn't there, that wasn't one, try again!"
As is playing out fantastically every time you post, I mean whut talk about proving the point lol.
They clearly were a problem, otherwise they would all still be standing!

FamilyOfAliens · 05/07/2020 23:08

Pressed too soon - oh and I DID notice them.

But were unable to quote them when asked to back to your “transphobia“ claim.

Quite the mystery.
