Theresa May sacked him when he was Defence Secretary.

I doubt he had set foot in a school for 20 years before the idea of him getting this job was muted. He has no plan, no clue and has lost the schools and parents.

He should go back to selling fireplaces.

We need someone with experience in schools. Urgently.

AdoptedBumpkin · 02/07/2020 22:07

To be fair, he looks like he's not long out of school. Maybe that's why he was given the job Smile

RubyViolet · 02/07/2020 22:12

I think l agree Bumpkin, we need someone who really knows this brief to do this job. It’s a tough one, we need parents , kids and staff to feel safe going forward.

Yes, but hes a contrived, sub-Wodehousian bag of posh twat cliches and desperate attempts of creating an image of an 'english eccentric' for himself, and right now thats all it takes to get the forelocks tugged.

RubyViolet · 02/07/2020 22:16

He’s the wrong man for this job. The Government need to act quickly. We have 7/8 weeks to get a plan for September. The plan released today isn’t good enough. Parents and staff need more support, more investment in bigger classrooms or spaces. More staff ... l just don’t feel this is a good enough plan.

Its a complete joke that they dont put people who know about the industry/sector in charge of it in government. How is that possibly anything like a meritocracy?

RubyViolet · 02/07/2020 22:18

It’s incredible isn’t it user. I just don’t know why they do this, he’s making a complete shambles of it.

One of the Times columnists described him as ‘standing at the podium in his Clark’s Defenders’ and it made me laugh.

thatone · 02/07/2020 22:19

YANBU, seems out of his depth and just doesn't sound genuine.

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 02/07/2020 22:20

He reminds me of Michael Crawford in Some Mother Do ‘Ave ‘ Em.

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 02/07/2020 22:21

starrynight19 · 02/07/2020 22:22

His monotone delivery of what he ridiculously called a ‘plan’ inspired confidence in neither staff or parents.
He needs to go.

RubyViolet · 02/07/2020 22:22

Fanthorpe...😂😂 He looks so uncomfortable too, as if he knows he’s making it all up as he goes along.
He does not instill confidence
The country needs someone to step up and make us believe it’s safe, l just don’t think anyone believes him. He’s lost the public. Parents aren’t convinced.

They can’t build bigger classrooms in every school in England by September! We’ll just have to get on with it sadly.

Williamson is shit but then so is the entire government - but a fuck of a lot of people voted for them Hmm.

RubyViolet · 02/07/2020 22:25

GoingtotheWinchester, totally agree. He has lost months of valuable preparation time. We could have had Nightingale centres and sports centres set up. He dropped the ball.
He needs to go.

Delatron · 02/07/2020 22:27

It’s such an important job at the moment. And he is just not up to it. What a shambles.

eddiemairswife · 02/07/2020 22:27

I remember years ago there was concern that many MPs were ex teachers and lecturers. We could do with some now. At least they had contact with ordinary people, unlike the present lot of millionaires and bankers.

RAOK · 02/07/2020 22:29

He is awful!

RubyViolet · 02/07/2020 22:30

Someone, anyone who has worked in Education. Surely there is someone on the benches of the Conservatives ??
If there isn’t, why not a cross party management group.

Its very much like when they suggested putting ex army inro schools. We're being run by an unelected man who dresses like an 11 year and and thinks talking like a 30 year old Sun headline makes him a 'maverick'.

GuyFawkesDay · 02/07/2020 22:36

Keir missed his chance, could have promoted an ex teacher to shadow position.

Gavin is soggier than a wet paper towel on a playground scrape.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 02/07/2020 22:39

@MNnicknameforCVthreads I've been saying that's who reminds me of for a while.

RubyViolet · 02/07/2020 22:39

Can you imagine, the already traumatised kids being drilled by ex army Volunteers.
He has had no big ideas.
He’s totally clueless.
I think he’s missed the opportunity for September, he’s talking rubbish. He has not prepared.

He's a prime example of a very mediocre white man who is in a position waaay above where he deserves to be. YANBU
