Theresa May sacked him when he was Defence Secretary.

I doubt he had set foot in a school for 20 years before the idea of him getting this job was muted. He has no plan, no clue and has lost the schools and parents.

He should go back to selling fireplaces.

The tarantula would do a better job.

@CalmYoBadSelf

Can you think of one in recent years that has been any good?

BobbinThreadbare123 · 03/07/2020 08:49

Who was the last decent Ed Sec? Genuinely. I taught in the Balls/Gove/Morgan era. Don't any more. Gove was so hated. Williamson is a wet lettuce.

I was at school when Blunkett was in and he make some big changes I remember. Certainly livened my school up.

RubyViolet · 03/07/2020 17:54

Yeah, there seemed to be more money for Education under the last lot. This last 10 years has been tough on schools.
I just find it astounding that someone with no expertise or experience can inherit the Education department.
It’s a huge job for anyone but he is definitely not up to it.

It is quicker to name the competent ministers, but Gavin Williamson seems to be one of the worst.

The plan might just work for a small school with a local catchment area, or a boarding school such as Eton, but probably not anywhere else.

Keepdistance · 03/07/2020 18:26

I agree op. But surely it is

  • no money from gov
  • no ideas that dont require money
  • no real will to stop the spread
  • parents going on they want kids back with no SD (so they will be carrying the can when this all goes to shit).
Phe saying what is needed or not. But not wanting the ppe used up. Phe dont know how schools work plus they already messed up killed loads of hcp and elderly in care homes with their/gov decisions. #getborisout

Gavin Williamson is not up to the job of Derby Variety Club Membership Secretary, let alone education secretary.

MyBingaling · 03/07/2020 18:30

He’s just not very bright. It still amazes me how these thickos end up running the country.

Dahlietta · 03/07/2020 18:33

Someone, anyone who has worked in Education. Surely there is someone on the benches of the Conservatives ??

When's the last time we had an education secretary who worked in Education? It just doesn't really happen - same with other departments of course.

I was at school when Blunkett was in and he make some big changes I remember.

Yes, me too. I've still got the letter somewhere that he sent to us all about how we got to be the first year to pay university fees.
My parents were teachers and they hated him. Teachers always hate the education secretary.

FizzyGreenWater · 03/07/2020 18:35

There is a strong correlation between inexperienced and frankly thick politicians and those strongly in favour of Brexit. So we have a thick inexperienced Cabinet!

Dahlietta · 03/07/2020 18:35

It still amazes me how these thickos end up running the country.

If you get Oxbridge graduates, people complain about that too Grin

Appuskidu · 03/07/2020 18:42

I think Estelle Morris was a PE teacher.

ShutUpaYourFace · 03/07/2020 18:48

Who is up for the job then?
Applications at the ready!
I have a reception child in school and a year 3 out of school. Is it safe? I am happy to send my youngest back in a small group. I'm annoyed my y3 won't go until Sep but the school does not have the space. If he is with another 30 kids am I happy, no, but would I send him, probably, we will probably have no choice, he needs school. No one knows what the situation is going to be come September. The government wants them all back, we want them back, but Only if safe to do so. I'm sure we ALL only want what's safe for our children and families.
I know I wouldn't want his job!

RubyViolet · 03/07/2020 18:48

Does anyone know a worthy candidate on the Conservative benches..and don’t say Gove 😂😂😂
I googled and found Jonathan Gullis MP. An ex secondary school teacher but only elected last year. Bit inexperienced as an MP though...
His voice should be at least heard in the room.
Are there any more ?

tsmainsqueeze · 03/07/2020 23:22

wimpy , wet , weirdo ,makes my skin crawl , looks totally out of his depth too.

RubyViolet · 04/07/2020 01:00

We certainly don’t need more wimpy wet weirdos! Gove was bad enough.
Names anyone ?? Is there anyone out there with the confidence of parents and school staff to do this job ??
