AIBU or is it impossible to get IKEA delivered

catgirl1976 · 01/07/2020 20:11

';m trying to buy some furniture from Ikea and EVERYTHING I choose says it's available for delivery and then when I check out it says it's "temporarily unavailable for delivery"

Is it always like this or is it COVID related?

This keeps happening to me too, think it must be covid related as I've never had an issue before.
I ended up doing click and collect.

istheresomethingishouldknow · 01/07/2020 20:15

They may be struggling to get their own warehouses stocked...

GreyGardens88 · 01/07/2020 20:15

Not useful if you don't drive, how are you supposed to get an Ikea bed home on the bus? Hmm

OublietteBravo · 01/07/2020 20:17

Last time I managed to get a delivery slot it was for 2 months time. My order did eventually get here though.

RubertRoo · 01/07/2020 20:18

Try very early in the morning. I was trying for about a month and luckily (or unluckily) my DD wakes up around 4.30-5am every day so I tried at about 4.45am and was given a delivery slot for 2 weeks away with all items in stock.

catgirl1976 · 01/07/2020 20:19

Ooh! Thank you - I will try super early in the morning

I do drive but the nearest one is a 3 hour round trip and I'm not confident my banger of a car would make it (and nothing would fit in it - its tiny)

My life hack is that I never pay full price for ikea furniture - Facebook marketplace is full of it especially the more common items. Might be a good alternative.

DoubleFunMum · 01/07/2020 20:23

I ordered yesterday. Delivery in 2 weeks. All my items were in stock! Maybe a localised issue?

PumpkinP · 01/07/2020 20:23

Yep same issue here or delivery months away mind you once you pay the £39 delivery fee it’s not worth it anyway.

catgirl1976 · 01/07/2020 20:25

I'm scouring marketplace but not seen what I need as yet :( I'd be more than happy to buy it second hand rather than pay full price and delivery

Also - did not mean to enable voting : )

I had a very slow delivery just after lock down but not luck since then. I can't even check if its in stock. Very annoying because I have looking for something for months and finally found it in the right size on their website.

PrayingandHoping · 01/07/2020 20:31

Be prepared to wait a long time when u do get a slot. I think my recent one was a 6 week wait

Homemadearmy · 01/07/2020 20:37

@XEAXii
I think it depends how close you love to a IKEA. Our nearest one is over a hour away. So it doest very often come up locally on Facebook marketplace.

XEAXii · 01/07/2020 20:40

@Homemadearmy you’re probably correct, I live less than 3 miles from Ikea Hmm

Fruitbowlflowers · 01/07/2020 20:45

Went Ikea to get sofa... not even on display. Can’t even order it online. So frustrating.

Crunchymum · 01/07/2020 20:45

I had a delivery very recently and it came a good 10 days before it said when I ordered but it was for loads and little bits. And well worth the tenner delivery fee not to have to go to the Hell hole Grin

Warpdrive · 01/07/2020 20:47

Ive heard that the stores have an entirely separate inventory from the 'delivery' business. So you think youll be ordering from a store, and you can check the store stock online so you know its there, but actually you're ordering from a different stocklist if you're ordering online - and during covid they tried really hard to mix the stock up so the store stock could be delivered but now they're in a pickle about it....
Its a temporary situation and I'm sure they're muddling through like the rest of us...but it will get better quickly i hope.

Juanmorebeer · 01/07/2020 20:50

I just made an order for last week and delivery slot was 3 weeks away so fingers crossed. It seemed that it was all in stock and I paid £39 (!) for delivery and they have taken my money so..... I will be furious if it doesn't arrive on that day tbh.

OstrichRunning · 01/07/2020 20:51

Yep, store and online are different stock sources I think. I'm I'm Ireland, so not sure this is relevant to you op but when I tried to order online loads of stuff was unavailable and it was a two month wait. I then went to the store instead, got most stuff and arranged delivery from there for the following day!

MidsomerMum · 01/07/2020 20:51

I was going to say try early. I’d been trying for a few days and happened to be up at 2am and thought oh I’ll just try and it went through - not coming til late August though so be prepared for a wait!

bringbacksideburns · 01/07/2020 20:53

We ordered a set of drawers for dd and the delivery price was nearly the same price as the drawers ! Rip off.We picked it up.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 01/07/2020 21:00

I ordered a few things last week but one item was unavailable for delivery. I tried for collection from a local store and it suggested Aberdeen I think. I'm in Yorkshire... I changed the colour of the item and that was available for delivery. It's arriving in 2 weeks' time🤞🤞🤞

Anotherdayanother2 · 01/07/2020 21:11

I ordered a worktop in Feb for delivery end March. Then we had lockdown. Kept on getting delivery text updates saying it was coming from April, May and June. After 3 times I rang, msg, tweeted and logged for call backs. Had to demand to be escalated to the actual warehouse.

They spent 2 weeks searching for it and eventually found it and it was delivered last Saturday. From what I can gather they are really understaffed and still not up to speed as yet.

feebeecat · 01/07/2020 21:16

Tried to order a few things a couple of weeks, not available for delivery, collection only. From Belfast. I’m in the middle of England. Decided against it in the end Grin

WhatHaveIFound · 01/07/2020 21:20

Ikea's website is a bit hit & miss at the moment.

I wanted some bedding and at first the nearest click & collect was 150 miles away and no deliveries possible. Then I could collect from Aberdeen (like TwoZero i'm in Yorkshire) or have a delivery in 3 weeks time.

By the time i got round to checking out my basket I got a delivery in 5 days time and it then turned up a day early.

It's worth checking every day or so as it might be that the items you want are out of stock at your local store.
