AIBU or is it impossible to get IKEA delivered

';m trying to buy some furniture from Ikea and EVERYTHING I choose says it's available for delivery and then when I check out it says it's "temporarily unavailable for delivery"

Is it always like this or is it COVID related?

This thread has got me worried. I'm waiting for a delivery next week, I ordered at start of lockdown...

Interesting about trying earlier. I was looking at an item (£22) the last couple of days but getting the same not available message - both times in the evenings. Just looked now and can add to my basket and choose delivery.
I'm probably not going to as I want to look at it before I decide, but as well as delivery (£9.95) I've got the option of collection from store (£3.95) or a local DPD drop off point (£3.50) for a number of general stores in this area.
I'd not pay £9.95 for delivery of a £22 item, but would consider £3.50 if I knew I wanted it.

Oh, and DPD dates were late July / early August.

We've always gone to IKEA, picked the items out ourselves and paid the shop to deliver it for us the next day. Not sure if they're still doing that now? We live about an hour on public transport from IKEA Croydon although it's only about 10 miles. It's always been about £20-25. We usually go after work on a Friday then it gets delivered on Saturday morning.

The one time we have had a "proper" delivery it was two years ago and we had a two/three week wait, but when I wanted something last month they said I could order it and then it'd be delivered at an unspecified time in the future (they had no delivery slots) or do click and collect from Belfast. I thought it was our computer getting the geo location wrong but it seems a lot of people are being packed off to NI for their IKEA needs.

Buying online from IKEA - joke.

We bought a few items recently. Delivery a couple of months in the future. Not urgent and store not open so not a real problem.

Day before we got an email - delivery has been rescheduled - but no details.

Looked up our order details - looked to have been cancelled.

Later that day we got an email from the couriers telling us when it was to get to our house,

No way of contacting them. (This was on the One Show last night)

Surprisingly it turned up the next day.

I can’t remember the site but there is one full of similar complaints about IKEA and their on line delivery.

We tried another order the other day. Like another poster found it referred to their Belfast store.

A large online order with lots of dependant pieces , ie a kitchen, forget it.

I had some trouble.
I ordered a pax wardrobe and MOST the items to go in it, it was about a 7 week wait.
I couldn't get hold of a few shelves i wanted for it, I had to refresh the page periodically through the next day, they finally came in stock, I purchased them separately, paid a separate delivery charge and it was a 6 week wait for them (smaller delivery so a differnt service is used).
I've not managed to get everything in one shop and have spent more on delivery than I'd like, but still cheaper than what people are charging on ebay and safer than going in store.

DH and DD visited ikea last week To get a wardrobe and desk and small bits. Small bits were reasonably ok, but the furniture was very difficult in general - the things DH wanted were out of stock and most others were OOS or very very low stock. And cannot even be ordered to deliver as it’s a supply issue - factory had built up stocks that weren’t selling While shops were closed so factory closed and that system now had to catch up again.

It will all come back again, but needs a (good) few weeks To recover itself.

MadisonAvenue · 02/07/2020 09:13

I ordered a cupboard and had a 3 week wait for delivery. When DPD brought it, the box was wet and torn open and there was damage to the item.

Three weeks later I’m still waiting for Ikea to sort out what they’re going about it!

MrsPerfect12 · 02/07/2020 09:13

I had the same issue, I did eventually get a slot for end of July. Ordered end of May.

GetUpAgain · 02/07/2020 09:19

With IKEA I never expect too much and then it's always a bonus if its correct first time. I think for the price its a brilliant shop, I don't mind a bit of hassle considering how cheap it is.

When I win the lottery it's going to be italian design all the way but until then my house is a mix of ikea and the ex catalogue shop.

twoglassesofprosecco · 02/07/2020 09:25

That's strange, @cardboard, online it keeps telling me about stock levels in Belfast too. Even though I'm in England. I checked thinking it had my wrong address, but nope!

catgirl1976 · 02/07/2020 09:38

Tried again early this morning and was offered click and collect from Edinburgh - only a 400 mile round trip

I've just gone onto the IKEA website to order a specific item that costs £49...it says it's available for delivery. So far so good. I went to checkout and I must have ordered two items by mistake when I saw the total cost, then I realised they wanted another £49 for delivery! Ridiculous.
Will only allow me to reserve and collect at two stores both over 200miles away, despite the item being in stock at stores closer to home.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 02/07/2020 14:21

i DON'T LIVE NEAR iKEA BUT YESTERDAY GOT A DELIVERY OF A SMALL GARDEN TABLE, £3.95 DELIVERY COST, TOOK THREE WEEKS TO ARRIVE. oops sorry for shouting.
