AIBU or is it impossible to get IKEA delivered

';m trying to buy some furniture from Ikea and EVERYTHING I choose says it's available for delivery and then when I check out it says it's "temporarily unavailable for delivery"

Is it always like this or is it COVID related?

I need some wardrobes for dd, if i pay £29 delivery, its 'limited' stock and i cant get them but if i pay their £49 pound delivery, magically i can...

Justtakeatowel · 01/07/2020 22:11

The sofa I want says unavailable for delivery. I thought it was because you needed 2 people to deliver and that's not allowed

PrayingandHoping · 01/07/2020 22:16

@Justtakeatowel they are doing 2 men deliveries. There was 2 men in the van that dropped my delivery off

Justtakeatowel · 01/07/2020 22:18

@PrayingandHoping oh that's good maybe they are changing their rules. I'll have to keep trying.
Thanks

jackdaw141 · 01/07/2020 22:20

I have no Ikea.

Greywind1523 · 01/07/2020 22:24

I think the delays previously were, as others have said due to the fact that they weren’t doing two man deliveries.

If they were booking deliveries for say 6 weeks in advance during lockdown I imagine there will be quite a backlog to get through before new slots open up. Probably a bit of a lottery at the moment unfortunately.

rslsys · 01/07/2020 22:36

Ordered a replacement smart lightbulb today to replace one we have owned for 6 months but has only been installed for less than a week. The hub can see it but it now fails to come on. Can't find the paperwork so have ordered another - delivery on 27th July!

AdobeWanKenobi · 01/07/2020 23:00

@XEAXii

My life hack is that I never pay full price for ikea furniture - Facebook marketplace is full of it especially the more common items. Might be a good alternative.
My nearest ikea is also an hour away. When furniture does come up on marketplace etc it's not far from full price because of the hassles of getting there, so that life hack doesn't work in all areas.
nancy75 · 01/07/2020 23:05

I gave up with their delivery, always at least a 6 week wait. I did get the fabulous offer of click & collect from Norwich - not particularly helpful when (like me) you live in South London!

alltoomuchrightnow · 01/07/2020 23:23

I work there but not in that department.
It's def Covid.
However, there are some items that are never available for delivery, which baffles me

alltoomuchrightnow · 01/07/2020 23:25

This is why IKEA sells so well on eBay! Even I have purchased stuff from eBay rather than have to queue on my day off, also a lot is cheaper new on eBay than in store with my 15% staff discount

DramaAlpaca · 01/07/2020 23:27

I ordered a few bits and pieces back in March, and was given a delivery date 6 weeks later in May. I didn't mind the wait, it wasn't stuff I needed urgently. It actually turned up on the day they said it would.

Doodar · 01/07/2020 23:28

Every delivery I’ve had has been damaged. A real pain when you’ve booked someone to put it together. They only send the pieces that are damaged too, not the whole item. I had 4 bedside cabinets for the kids and there was 6 pieces damaged. They throw the packages all over.

nevermorelenore · 01/07/2020 23:30

I've been trying for two weeks too! Theres a particular wardrobe that is the only one that is the exact right width and has the layout that I want and I can't buy it. If I could find anything similar then I'd not use IKEA but I've checked about a billion sites and nothing.

I could drive and collect from Norwich. Only three hours each way, woo.

nancy75 · 02/07/2020 00:50

Is Norwich the only shop that does click & collect? Why do they want to send us all there?
My local shop (15 minutes drive) had 112 of the thing I wanted in stock, I only wanted 4 - why the bloody hell would the website send me to Norwich 😂

Kamma89 · 02/07/2020 01:00

I've had 2 deliveries since March. Perfectly packaged, no damaged items & delivered within a few days! Must have something to do with location?

MsEllany · 02/07/2020 01:07

I placed an order about three days ago for £1500 worth of stuff - couple of sofas and assorted gubbins. Only one thing was not available, and that was a limited edition cushion cover so I’m not that bothered!

Lots of things just aren’t available for delivery because that’s not their thing. I read an article about it.

alltoomuchrightnow · 02/07/2020 01:11

MsEllany what was the cushion?!
Being nosey as cushions are my life, (sad!) - I work in that department!
Was it the one with pom poms on? Or Nabbfly? They keep selling out

breakfastclubb · 02/07/2020 04:59

We’ve had a nightmare with them. Items didn’t arrive, things turned up broken, still waiting for a promised refund.

Marsalimay · 02/07/2020 05:13

We ordered a set of drawers for dd and the delivery price was nearly the same price as the drawers ! Rip off.We picked it up

This is the point, it’s their business model.

PumpkinP · 02/07/2020 08:06

But it’s annoying when you have no way to pick it up (I don’t drive) so I have to go to Argos instead who for larger items only charge £6.95 and quick delivery. Don’t know why it’s cost £39 to have something delivered from ikea, I have a store 5 miles from me, thought it was suppose to be cheaper the closer you live, not like it’s a million miles away.

hula008 · 02/07/2020 08:12

When they do finally send it they just chuck everything you ordered into a box without care... In my case, plant pots, frames, furniture, trinkets etc.

They can deliver the replacement broken items but not for another 2 months as apparantly the courier doesn't have any spaces (DPD). They can refund but you won't get any confirmation of the refund until it goes through as they can't email you for some reason.

If you try to get through to customer services apparantly there's like a 6000 person queue

MsEllany · 02/07/2020 08:35

@alltoomuchrightnow it was a 50x50 cover, white with gold leaves on it. Which I can’t find on the website now!

I actually love ikea, we’re less than 10 miles from one so I’ll just nip up there occasionally for a porter about. I am also a cushion fan - I’m buying loads of the 50x50 cushions and covers for my bedrooms as well as the living room, they’re so comfy!

twoglassesofprosecco · 02/07/2020 08:40

I tried to order to chests of drawers and some other small furniture a few days ago. Same, said avail for delivery but not when I tried to check out.
I was able to order them the next morning but could only do express 1-day delivery (£45), which I think isn't much more than standard delivery.

I think express deliveries sell out, so try the morning.

Singlebutmarried · 02/07/2020 08:43

I’ve ordered a couple of bit. Store collection was about 200 miles away. It was 6 weeks for delivery and £9.95. Or 2 weeks for click and collect at a local dry cleaners and £3.50.

Makes no sense if they already had a delivery route in the area for it to be so many weeks later.

Hey ho.
