A lovely vintage mirror put it on the ground by my car and it cracked

Greydrapex · 01/07/2020 14:35

A new TV, when flat screens first came out and were silly money. First or second day after we set it up, My son, then two, scratched two happy faces into it with a toy car 🙄

TellySavalashairbrush · 01/07/2020 14:37

I had a T-shirt with a transfer picture of John Travolta when he starred in Grease (he was my heart throb at the age of 8) which I treasured, only wore it twice when my mum got heavy handed with the iron and scorched John's face!! I was devastated.

derekmorgan · 01/07/2020 14:41

Crashed my new (to me) car a couple of hours after passing my test if that counts! 😫

Murphs1 · 01/07/2020 14:47

We travel often to relatives 300 plus miles away with our 2 children and dog. For a long time we talked about a roof box which we finally purchased when going on a long weekend in the uk. It cost over £300 and we extolled it’s virtues the whole of the time away we were away.
I returned home with luggage, kids and dog, while my husband travelled to work from our holiday stay. I was unable to remove the roof box on my own so left it in place. The next day myself, kids and dog drove to the local sports centre to go for a walk. I completely forgot there was a low overhead barrier to the car park and ripped the whole roof box off, and it smashed into a thousand pieces in the entrance to the car park Blush

My mum had a China dog ornament that she'd been given for her 21st birthday. It was really special to her, and I admired it every day. I always told her how much I loved it, and how I really wished it was mine.
When I turned 10 she said that I could have it in my bedroom. I still remember the horrible sick feeling I got when I dropped it as I was carrying it to my room for the very first time. I cried for absolutely ages. I suspect my mum did too.

I can't think of any personal examples, but this thread reminds me of the book What Katy Did, when Katy breaks the vase Cousin Helen only just gave her.

@WombatChocolate

Bought a new washing machine. Didn't read the instruction to remove the transit bolts before using. New washing machine went beserk during the spin and violently leapt and crashed it's way through and out of the kitchen units it was between, damaging them and knackering itself. I won't forget the sight of DH trying to cling onto it and stop it leaping across the room into the back door.
I'm sorry but I can't stop laughing at this
MsEllany · 01/07/2020 14:53

Oh god @wavingwhiledrowning I can feel that! When you break a treasured item of your own it’s bad enough, but breaking someone else’s is just heartbreaking isn’t it?

EarPhones · 01/07/2020 14:54

Scisorred new wooden bed while unwrapping mattress on it. Scratching new car in driveway. I thought I was the only one lol

altforvarmt · 01/07/2020 15:04

Bought a new full-length dress for an awards ceremony. Got ready in the hotel room. From the room, I had to walk up 3 small steps to get to the lift. On the 2nd step up, I put my heel right through the dress and the lining.

FlashesOfRage · 01/07/2020 15:12

🤣 So much cringe in here! Lol

Husband finished putting our brand new £900 Bosch fridge freezer into position.
We paid the extra for a beautiful turquoise magnetic cover to go on the front.

Two seconds later he decided to see if the microwave would fit in the gap on top of it.

He smashed the corner of the microwave into the green cover at eye height and put a 3mm thick diagonal silver scratch right across it.

He was so completely crestfallen that I pretended it didn’t even matter 🤣🤣🤣👌

KeepWashingThoseHands · 01/07/2020 15:20

New desk for lockdown. Glass with frosting on the back so it's faint mint/blue colour and I love it. Put a noticeable scratch on the frosting as I was putting it together.

Deciding if a white crayon will do the trick!

2andahalfpints · 01/07/2020 15:37

Bought a new garden swing seat, wind blew it across the decking, sun canopy snapped and broke, tear I seat and it took out a couple of brand new plant pots and my new outdoor table lamp! 😭

Echo08 · 01/07/2020 15:39

When i met my DH he was then my DP he was saving for car of his dreams an Alfa Romeo , he brought it just before i passed my driving test .I persuaded him let me drive it literally days after passing my test .I went and put a huge scratch down the side after misjudging a low wall .He didn't speak to me for days and we had just moved in together .He had to have it re sprayed and didn't let me drive it again for quite a while afterwards 🤣.

Cbatothinkofausername · 01/07/2020 15:40

Not really a ruined story, but back when I was 20 I spent over £100 on some Channel make up, went straight to work and left the bag with my things in the girls staff room.

By the end of my shift it was gone. I was almost certain it wasn’t a customer or random as you had to walk right through the kitchen to get to the staff changing room.

I could never trust the other women there every again, so angry Envy not envy!

Stopthehop · 01/07/2020 15:46

When I was little my best friend had a China tea set that I was so jealous of. I asked for one for my birthday but I knew my Mum didn't have much money so wasn't very hopefull. Imagine my joy when I got one! I put it all out on the tray, walked across the room with it shouting I've got a China tea set, tripped and dropped the tray where it smashed to smiterins on the floor. I was so gutted.

Carouselfish · 01/07/2020 15:59

Dropped brand new book while sitting on bench in park. It landed pages down in dog poop.

quarentini · 01/07/2020 16:06

Do once dropped a lot candle onto a newly laid carpet.
£900 pound literally gone up in smoke

MaggieAndHopey · 01/07/2020 16:10

cut right through a beautiful silk dress I bought second hand from ebay (still for much £££) when I opened the parcel with scissors. Just one of those times you want to punch yourself in the face.

peaceanddove · 01/07/2020 16:11

Went to collect my brand new Golf GTi, the first time I was able to drive after having a C-section with DD. Drove it through our narrow gateway and managed to scrape it all down the drivers side and half wedge the back wheel trim on the gate post. I was horrified and desperately reversed to get off the gate post, but over corrected and managed to scrape all along the passenger side too. My beautiful new car looked like it had been in a wreck!

Only a few weeks later, drove newly repaired car to an out of town shopping mall. Spent a fortune on new clothes for DD from Monsoon Baby and Baby Gap. I put all my shopping bags down next to the car, then had the usual faff of getting DD into her car seat and trying to collapse her new buggy. Ended up so stressed, that I completely forgot about the shopping bags and drove home without them. They weren't handed in anywhere. New Mummy Brain is a definite thing.

Far too many of these in my family!

My Mum took her wedding and engagement rings off on their honeymoon while they swam in the sea and left them on the blanket they'd been sitting on. When they came back to get dry my Dad picked up the blanket and shook it to shake the sand off it...they spent the next five hours unsuccessfully trying to find the rings.

My Dad reversed into a bollard and dented the back of the car. My parents were a bit skint and couldn't afford to get it fixed for ages. When they finally did Dad's boss took him to pick it up and promptly drove into the back of the newly fixed car as they were leaving the garage.

I left a camcorder on a coach, rang the depot and thankfully it had been handed in. The went to collect it only to trip over and smash it as I was checking it over while walking back to the car.

I shrunk DH's brand new top in the dryer so went out and bought a new one. I thought I'd wash it to take away the 'newness' so he would have no idea but I stupidly put into the washing machine with a bleachy cloth and bleached big patches of it. I bought a third one, DH wore it out and got curry sauce on that never came out.

ivfbabymomma1 · 01/07/2020 16:41

My day has gone from bad to worse. I went back to the shop to buy another one because the builder was fitting them today. I was going to buy a cheaper one but j really liked it so I ended to paying £90 for a new one. (Stupid I know) and then I brought it home, it got fitted. All was forgotten about the smashed one. I went on the online shop to see if they had a matching side light or similar and found they sold the replacement glass things I had smashed for £10 each! So I could have replacement them and paid £50 not paid £90 for a new one!!! Grrrrr!!!!

The light fitting is like a metal frame with 5 glass bowl shaped things where the bulbs go. Pass me a wine

@FuzzyPuffling

Not quite but...My leaving gift from a job was a glass bowl. My boss dropped it on the way to my office and could hear it had broken inside the wrapping, but gave it to me anyway. (The second gift was some earrings....when I didn't have pierced ears)
A friend of mine used to sell personalised ceramics and she would put chocolate coins in with the packaging when she posted them so they always sounded broken!
ivfbabymomma1 · 01/07/2020 16:52

@pennynotsowise that story made me really sad 😭😭 I bet he loved it anyway!!
