My Mum took her wedding and engagement rings off on their honeymoon while they swam in the sea and left them on the blanket they'd been sitting on. When they came back to get dry my Dad picked up the blanket and shook it to shake the sand off it...they spent the next five hours unsuccessfully trying to find the rings.
We were in the West Indies and another couple got married out there after 17 years together. The next day they went on a boat trip and both lost their shiny new wedding rings in the sea.

Stupidly picked up my DD's £80 birthday cake from the bakers by foot, and dropped it on the way home Blush

U2HasTheEdge · 01/07/2020 17:13

A glass cake dome. Dropped it and the cake.

Massively outing but fuck it! My car!
Picked it up and went out of town the next day for a night away with DP, the next morning trying to manoeuvre out of the car park I scraped and dented all one side on the pilar(multi storey) fuuuuck

Back in the 90s when I was 15 I had my hair permed wearing a brand new mint green satin shirt which I bought from Bay Trading Grin my mum told me not to wear it but I ignored her and some solution dripped down the front of it. Not wanting her to see I ran upstairs into the bathroom and thought the best thing to get rid of the stain would be to use the nail scrubbing brush. It worked! The stain disappeared but a big hole appeared from the brush. I was so upset and my mum was rather cross with me. We laugh about it now.

Treated my self to a Fossil handbag that I had hankered after for months

First time I used it a pen leaked in an outer pocket and stained the leather (on the outside of the bag) really badly

About 15 years ago treated myself to a Sony personal organiser - they cost a bomb. I set it up on the charger then knocked it so it skidded across the floor and the screen cracked.

Had a new kitchen fitted and the next day I took a hot cast iron skillet off the hob and put it straight onto the worktop without anything to protect it from the heat.
The pan melted into it.
Then I washed the skillet and promptly dropped it, smashing two tiles on the newly tiled floor.
OH came running in to see what the noise was and slammed straight into an open base cupboard door, breaking it off it's hinges.
I think it was about a week before we could even be slightly civil to each other after that.

I’ve also dropped coffee on the floor at Costa. It’s like it leapt out of my hand. I was too embarrassed to go back in and get another one.

Also my first car which had parking sensors. After a few weeks I decided that the rear sensors were too sensitive so ignored them and reversed into a wall.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 01/07/2020 17:47

I know I’ve done things like this. I must have blocked them from memory. Hugely comforting to know that other people have done the same stupid things.

6 days after picking up my new (to me, 3 year old) car we were hit by a nasty night if hoar frost and black ice. Going slowly, turning into a junction my car spun out. Unfortunately I hit a really high kerb and buckled the front wheel of my new car.

dontgobaconmyheart · 01/07/2020 17:50

I'm still sulking about this a week later but I got a new (expensive) laptop last week after years of putting it off. Got it out the box, popped it on the floor for a second while I got the charger, then dropped my phone on it.

It's caused in metal so has a huge dent and several scratches on the lid now that makes me rage at myself every time I see it Hmm. I'll be annoyed for the several years I have it I know I will!

MinnieJackson · 01/07/2020 17:54

@toomanyplants sorry I'm really laughing Grin

healththrowawayx · 01/07/2020 17:54

Oh god, I spilt a hot chocolate immediately after buying one too. I placed it on a bench where it toppled over.

It was only a bloody “small” size, yet the liquid seeping out was never ending. Drenched the bench, splattered up my shoes/bare legs/the wall and almost covered the width of the shopping centre hall. It was literally the most dramatic mess possible from such a small cup

Passers by were even sympathetically offering wipes/tissue!

I googled the shopping centre, rung them and profusely apologised. Said I’d clean it myself but I already ran out of wipesBlush To be fair to them the lady was really kind, she found it hilarious and dispatched a cleaner who arrived within minutes!

My son smashed a shade on a brand new light within ten minutes of bringing it home. My husband took it back to Dunelm, explained what happened and they replaced it free of charge Grin

thetaleunfolds · 01/07/2020 18:05

Smashed my iPhone leaving the shop minutes after buying it. The O2 assistant who sold it to me saw and went white as a sheet

Last week I had a lovely new desk delivered with a leather top to it. Set it up, left the room to put the oven on, came back in and my toddler has drawn all over the white leather with biro. I cried. Still can't get it off (he proper stabbed and scraped it with the nib)

JammyHands · 01/07/2020 18:07

I've twice left something I'd just bought on the bus: a cotton duvet and a curtain rail. I was so angry about the duvet because there was me and another chap sitting near me and I'm sure he will have seen me getting up without it and said nothing. It never turned up.

Redrosesandsunsets · 01/07/2020 18:08

Yes cheaper items but still things I really wanted. Twice in my life. 1. a bag of gifts I binned thinking it was rubbish. 2. a whole bag of new shoes when I moved house I tried to do a clear out and dumped a bag of fairly new shoes. I was just earlier looking at photos of one pair of them and was reminded. I looked for ages for them in my garage hoping I hadn’t binned them but 4 years later still no sign of them.

Redrosesandsunsets · 01/07/2020 18:11

And yes I once left a more expensive coat (bought overseas) on an underground train. I went to their lost and found and couldn’t find it.
Accidentally I once put down a bag of Christmas presents just bought in another shop When looking at clothes I turned around for a second and boom gone. No idea still what happened.

Redrosesandsunsets · 01/07/2020 18:12

Also I got new sofas and my toddler years ago drew all over it with marker pen. Still it has the marker pen and I still haven’t been able to replace it.

Jaxhog · 01/07/2020 18:15

Beautiful new cashmere sweater that I left in the bathroom. My cleaner 'helpfully' put it in the washing machine. It now fits my teddy.

Jaxhog · 01/07/2020 18:17

I once put salt instead of sweetener in a large Pret coffee. They (voluntarily) replaced it!

gingerbeerandlemonade · 01/07/2020 18:24

It wasn't expensive but was sentimental. A pupil of mine gave me a Harry Potter mug at the end of the year. He'd written a lovely message underneath too and I loved it. I went home, had one cup of tea. Left it on the coffee table once I had finished and my toddler picked it up (was stone cold by then!) And placed it in our empty bin. Smashed it completely.

carorganiser1 · 01/07/2020 18:26

Spilt candle wax all over a brand new carpet that we paid 1k for 😭😭

transformandriseup · 01/07/2020 18:27

DH drove home his brand new Jaguar and scrapped the front and back door on the low brick wall in our tight cornered driveway entrance. The silly sausage

I did this in my brand new car too Blush
