to hate what Brexiters have done

I know this has been done before, but knowing that we are now likely on course for a No Deal Brexit in the midst of a pandemic I am so angry and upset about what Brexiters voted for. I'll forgive any who were conned and now think better of it, but I cannot get over the loss of Freedom of Movement to live and work in the EU - not so much for me, but for my children - and the way the UK is sliding in international standing economically and in attracting doctors, nurses, scientists etc. (I know from before that Leavers don't care what I think, but just had to post).

I lost my job due to Covid - who should I hate?

Did anyone vote for Covid?

darkcaramel · 01/07/2020 19:39

Exactly fine

I’m surprised people are trying to dispute that, to be honest. It wasn’t the result you wanted and maybe you think people were misguided, but I don’t think anyone can deny that this is what was wanted by a majority.

LarryTheLurker · 01/07/2020 19:42

Typical self-centred remain loser, me, me, me. Nothing about the vital importance to all of us of the UK becoming an independent, self-governing democracy again, which will benefit your children and mine far more than being able to live in the EU - if indeed there is such a thing in 5 years, which I very much doubt - with a minimum of formality. We all knew what we were voting for - to leave the EU, and the freedom of movement we voted to stop was the freedom of uninvited, unwanted EU nationals to come here for their benefit not ours. It was remain voters who were conned or frightened into voting for continued subservience to the rule of unelected foreigners in Brussels.

Doctors and nurses, we should train enough of our own and not have to rely on poaching staff from abroad.

Everyone will suffer economically post-Covid, but at least we will be able to manage our own recovery and not be expected to send billions of pounds abroad to help other countries.

How I wish people like you would stop whining about the impact of Brexit on them personally, and and start accepting the largest democratic decision this country has ever taken.

amusedtodeath1 · 01/07/2020 19:44

These are issues only the fairly well off and above care about. Shows you just how many people are less than well off.

This country cannot sustain the amount of people in it. We are a tiny island and allowing people to live here as and when they please is causing problems.

The EU is not a democratic system. I disagree with it.

SantiagoSky · 01/07/2020 19:47

There are the folks that think Brexit will be great and then the ones that don‘t see an issue with Covid since all the 50.000 would have died anyway.

Crankley · 01/07/2020 19:55

totallyyesno
I don't understand this hysteria about FOM - people can still live and work in other countries, albeit it may take a little more effort applying for visas etc. The UK is still European, no-one is taking that away.
Fixed it for you.

Fixed it back. If I ever decide to hire someone to edit my posts you can send me your cv.

@LarryTheLurker

Nothing about the vital importance to all of us of the UK becoming an independent, self-governing democracy again

So we are not going to do any trade deals with any other countries in case they ask us to abide by their rules and regulations and therefore lose a teensy smidgen of so called sovereignty ? You know like the arrangement we had as a member of the EU , except we were instrumental in deciding what those rules and regulations were in that case.

jasjas1973 · 01/07/2020 20:02

@LarryTheLurker

We are a self governing independent nation, always were.

We don't have the school system to train our own doctors and nurses etc our educational standards are poor and we ve had decades to put that right, the EU never stopped us.

The UK has had larger turn outs at GE's and those GE's were overturned 5 years later... because that is democracy.

Just like the losing side in 1973, i won't stop whining about brexit and after your fine speech about democracy, why are you trying to stop me? unless you are not a democrat?

serenada · 01/07/2020 20:03

Some of the comments on here scare me. If a polish couple have children who were born in the UK and those children grow up ‘English’ are people saying that is wrong? That, at some point the expectation is that the polish couple plus children would return to Poland?

Did I spend my time studying and working as a teacher in the country I was born in only to be seen by English people as an immigrant who was here temporarily or who had overstayed? Because there were times when I felt that from some people but I put that down to them not realising that they had been palmed off with some kind of nonsense about immigration.

This has depressed me so much. If we contribute (family of nurses and teachers) we are taking jobs and if we don’t we are a burden yet I was born and grew up my whole life in London. People are n’t thinking this through and realising who the casualties are here.

jasjas1973 · 01/07/2020 20:08

but I don’t think anyone can deny that this is what was wanted by a majority

....a majority that bothered to vote! not an overall one and of course, the majority are not always right, no matter how unpalatable that might be, i think few would argue the USA was correct to elect Trump.

Plus no safeguards put in place, we'd be leaving if 2m had turned out, with a majority of 10 !

Livelovebehappy · 01/07/2020 20:11

A lot of really well considered comments on here from Brexit supporters, compared to the same old same old trotted out by Remainers.

Clavinova · 01/07/2020 20:15

We don't have the school system to train our own doctors and nurses etc our educational standards are poor and we've had decades to put that right, the EU never stopped us.

We don't (or at least we didn't) have enough training places for doctors - I know half a dozen current medical students who had to reapply with their A/A * A levels because of a shortage of training places.

darkcaramel · 01/07/2020 20:16

So if we went to the homes of everybody who did not vote they would all be staunch Labour Remainers? Do people really believe this garbage?

@darkcaramel

Exactly fine

How many times do the figures have to be given to you that completely disprove that?
darkcaramel · 01/07/2020 20:18

Lovely liberal remainer, right there.

darkcaramel · 01/07/2020 20:19

So you genuinely believe everyone who did not vote would emerge to be a staunch Remainer, and would not have voted Tory in a million years?

Finerumpus · 01/07/2020 20:21

Plainsailing - that is outrageous. Either you don’t want to understand what Larry meant or you genuinely don’t. But you are not capable of having a discussion about statehood with such abhorrent rudeness.

Alsohuman · 01/07/2020 20:22

@darkcaramel

So you genuinely believe everyone who did not vote would emerge to be a staunch Remainer, and would not have voted Tory in a million years?
Nobody’s said that. Merely pointed out that it’s incorrect to say the majority of the population voted to leave or for a Get Brexit Done government.
Finerumpus · 01/07/2020 20:23

Alsohuman- Brexit did keep winning though.

darkcaramel · 01/07/2020 20:24

But they did.

Someone who did not vote at all cannot have their position assumed. The only assumption we can make is that they were happy to go with majority rule.

PinkiOcelot · 01/07/2020 20:25

I feel the same about the fucking morons who voted in the conservatives in December. What a shower!!

StormzyinaTCup · 01/07/2020 20:25

Politics, the economy etc. are complex topics that village idiots like you are just not meant to understand so please crawl back to the shthole that you came from so the rest of us can have a slightly more meaningful conversation*

Wow, you refer to meaningful conversation and then come out with that tripe. It would be amusing if it wasn't so rude. Some people 🤦‍♀️.

darkcaramel · 01/07/2020 20:25

You know that’s not considered a pleasant word, right?

ConstantlySeekingHappiness · 01/07/2020 20:27

so please crawl back to the shthole that you came from*

Quite the moral high ground you’re trying to take. Hmm
