Back story
Inexperienced driver, not massively confident, but getting there.
Journey to work is horrible. Inner city. Dodgy aggressive drivers.
There are a few routes that i can take but I take the shortest and most familiar. There is one part I hate.
Anyhow, I always stay in the left hand lane but at this one part there are sometimes parked cars so I move to right hand lane. This was the case today. I indicated and moved over.
Next thing I heard police sirens behind me. I thought shit.
Did I do a dodgy manoeuvre? I didnt see the police prior to this btw.
They then moved into the left lane next to me. The officer driving, mouthed at me " are you fucking stupid?".
Well I feel fucking stupid. Now im thinking was he trying to get past and i Didnt let him out and didn't pay attention as i was too busy trying to keep safe on that dodgy road.

Georgia I’ve sworn at drivers. I’m humans and I have been ran off a road by a woman not paying attention. Damm right I swore!!

BertieBotts · 29/06/2020 21:56

It could have been "Are you bloody stupid"? Am I the only one mouthing both thinking they feel similar?

Stationclare · 29/06/2020 21:57

Sarah. I don't think he swore he defintely did. And aggressively too. That's the bit that shocked me most.
He was to the left at me at the traffic light so no mistake.
Whatever I did. He was an arsehole. And I wish he had of pulled me over nd if have accepted whatever I'd done wrong.and I would have asked him if it was ok to act like that as a police officer!!!

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 29/06/2020 21:58

He was going to an emergency, he can’t pull you over u less your actions were so dangerous that that took priority over what he was attending.

Mistystar99 · 29/06/2020 22:00

A lot of meatheads go into low level police roles so they can swear at people.
Ignore the

Stationclare · 29/06/2020 22:01

Yes witch. I didnt see him coming . Genuinely. Clearly not paying attention. I will accept that.

I dont have to be a professional lip reader though to see a person in the car next to me look directly
and say something.

GeorgiaWeLoveYou · 29/06/2020 22:01

@Nicknacky swearing as in speaking to yourself or your colleague, yeah okay. But turning face on to a member of the public and swearing as in insulting them = not okay. This is a slippery slope to a police officer becoming a road rage driver that police actually prosecute!

Nicknacky · 29/06/2020 22:01

Meatheads😂

FirstClassFlightHome · 29/06/2020 22:02

You must move into the left lane to let an emergency vehicle pass.

Hingeandbracket · 29/06/2020 22:03

@AranciaRosso

Anyway I'm pretty sure that all in-car business is recorded these days so you should have no problem retriving proof if you enquire at the Police Station - then the officers can be dealt with accordingly
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Yeah good luck with that. In the event that any such recordings exist, anyone showing an interest in relation to a complaint will lead to their "accidental" erasure or misplacing like it does in relation to any damning evidence.
Eckhart · 29/06/2020 22:06

OP did you check your blind spot? Sounds to me like the police car was in it.

Whoknowswhocares · 29/06/2020 22:08

Sounds like you could do with some additional driving lessons to help your confidence and skills. Perhaps Passplus as suggested earlier? Or a couple of refresher lessons on ‘dodgy’ roads as you call them.

Stationclare · 29/06/2020 22:11

Nicky nacky
Well wouldnt his colleague have taken my reg number?

OP posts:
Lightswitches · 29/06/2020 22:12

Nobody can know exactly what it was but my best guess is that you left it slightly late to indicate and pull into the right hand lane. Although you say the red car let you in, as a new driver you might not be good yet at judging the speed the car behind is travelling in and so red car might have had to brake to accommodate you - you wouldn't have seen/noticed that, but the police car behind would.

It could also be that the opposite was true - you indicated and then left it too long to pull in, perhaps hesitating too long thus making the red car have to slow down and also flash you to show it is OK to enter.

Or the third option is that you took too long to notice the police car with sirens on behind you and they were expecting you to move out of the right hand lane back into the left and out of their way, seeing as they were travelling in the right hand lane with sirens on (behind the red car).

AbsolutePleasure · 29/06/2020 22:13

Get some lessons to build your confidence.

Nicknacky · 29/06/2020 22:14

Stationclare They may well have done. You will just need to wait. However, drivers like you aren’t uncommon so they can’t chap the door of everyone that has driven like you.

I was shouting at my colleague one day to get a reg number so we could trace and charge the driver, however due to his life flashing in front of his eyes he got too much of a fright to get it.

Just forget about it and use it as a learning curve.

WeirdlyOdd · 29/06/2020 22:14

Everyone is talking about checking mirrors, but that's never enough! Before you pull out, you check mirrors (rear and wing) AND check over your shoulder in case someone's in your blind spot.

ConstanceSalinger · 29/06/2020 22:14

I'm really sorry to say it OP but you described your journey to work as being horrible, with dodgy aggressive drivers and dodgy roads in the same breath as admitting that you are a new inexperienced driver (as everyone is once!)

And yet of all this, you're cross at a police driver for being angry that you either cut him up or held him up - you're not sure as you didn't notice them.

I think you're shocked but you should learn from this experience, next time you drive that road you'll pay a bit more attention and your driving will definitely improve.

Stationclare · 29/06/2020 22:15

I agree Georgia
I'd have sworn at my colleague too. But not to a member of the public.
I work in a public facing role and I'd be sacked. It's different to saying things under your breath or to others.

He looked nasty
That's why I'm shook up
And thats why i posted.

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 29/06/2020 22:16

So complain if you are so disturbed by him swearing at you.

Stationclare · 29/06/2020 22:19

Constance
Yeah you are most definitely right on that one!
Nicky-not sure what you mean by drivers like me, but still.

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 29/06/2020 22:20

I mean, drivers that don’t pay attention and nearly cause accidents.

Stationclare · 29/06/2020 22:23

Light switches
All of your explanations sound plausible.
The last one about the police trying to get in left lane seems most likely although I'm not sure that they could have at that point due to parked cars. But we may have just passed them by that point. Trying to wrack my brains .

OP posts:
Stationclare · 29/06/2020 22:24

I thought i was paying attention
That's the issue.
I always bloody stay in the left lane as well if I'm able.

OP posts:
BudgieHammockBananaSmuggler · 29/06/2020 22:25

As previous have said, maybe the police were annoyed that you didn’t pull over to the left (or stay left) and let them pass. I once did similar in my early days of driving. I stayed in the right lane as I assumed the police car could easily zoom up the left hand lane where there was no traffic. It soon became clear I was expected to shift left!
