I’ve had to wade into the world of selfies as I’m using dating apps and most of my ‘natural’ pics are years old.

I am confident about how I look. I do get chatted up in bars and I think I look okay in person - but I need to take a stupid amount of selfies to get one ‘decent’ one. And most of the photos my ex had taken of me looked stupid too. I struggle getting the right post and it never looks quite right.

I’m almost tempted to post a pic (obv. incredibly outing) but even if I get critique I’m not sure I can do much better! So maybe I’m just not destined to be photogenic.

Are you? Are you better looking, worse, or pretty much the same in photos?

I take a fab selfie. Definitely less attractive in reality 🤷🏻‍♀️

haverhill · 29/06/2020 21:41

You see, I AM photogenic in selfies because I can compose my features into something approaching attractive.
In ‘candids’ I look significantly less appealing Grin.

Sexnotgender · 29/06/2020 21:44

God no. I think I look ok when I get ready then someone takes a photo and I look like a troll.

emsyj37 · 29/06/2020 21:45

There's a website called photofeeler where you can upload pics and have people vote on whether they're good for e.g. LinkedIn, dating apps or whatever (there's a choice of what purpose tge photo is for). You have to get credits first by voting on other peoples photos which is quite fun Grin.

DuesToTheDirt · 29/06/2020 21:47

Ms Unphotogenic here. I look awkward in photos, and as I get older I have to take about 300 to get a decent one.

One of my DDs is very photogenic. She can switch on a beautiful smile and looks fabulous - and natural. Wish I had that knack! The other DD is more like me in that she often looks a bit awkward.

BabyDancer · 29/06/2020 21:49

I always get told I'm photogenic but I'm not sure if that means I don't look as good in real life 😂

Howmanysleepsnow · 29/06/2020 21:51

I have a face like a potato.
I think it’s just in photos...

ChocAuVin · 29/06/2020 21:54

On balance, I am fairly photogenic. My SIL is unbelievably so Envy

Oldsu · 29/06/2020 21:56

OMG NO I look like I fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down

chubbyhotchoc · 29/06/2020 21:57

Not very. I either look wonderful or like a troll. I had professional pics taken for my online dating profile and later included just one normal pic as some men thought I wasn't real. Seemed to work. I had a couple of dates every week and met my dh fairly quickly.

PhoneLock · 29/06/2020 21:58

I can probably count on one hand the number of selfies that I've taken but I'm told that I am photogenic. I'm usually pretty happy with pictures of me.

HeyBlaby · 29/06/2020 22:00

Apparently I look much better in real life than in photos, my friends have quite a good laugh at most photos taken of me (in good humour)

Maybe I just look awful in real life too though, who knows Blush

TerrorWig · 29/06/2020 22:00

Absolutely not!

It actually quite upsets me sometimes that I’ll look in the mirror and think I look quite nice, then a photo shows me looking sweaty and red and just all around gross.

I have hardly any pictures from when I was a young teen, and I have hardly any of me now.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 29/06/2020 22:09

I second flipping the photo so it is the right way round. It usually makes a big difference.

crosser62 · 29/06/2020 22:12

Absolutely not.
Not even my own mother has a single photo of me as an adult.
I refuse absolutely point blank to have my picture taken ever...EVER.
I have an ID badge for work but that is turned the wrong way so not visible. Masks are a godsend to me to cover up my very very ugly face.

RiftGibbon · 29/06/2020 22:13

In the opposite of photogenic, regardless of whether or not there is a camera around.

Smartanimal · 29/06/2020 22:14

True story

To ask if you are photogenic?
verybritishproblems · 29/06/2020 22:15

Worse much worse. Photos flatten out my face do it looks fatter! I’ve been told I don’t look like photos of and luckily look better because in photos I actually look awful!

2DayW0rk2m0rrw · 29/06/2020 22:15

Yes I'm photogenic

Because I enjoy photography, images, art, news, history etc

If you are someone who isn't photogenic
You can use the filters to change the colours, lighting, mood, add the sparkles, text etc

I'm not young, beautiful, classic, I'm just ME !

mrsBtheparker · 29/06/2020 22:17

No I'm not, I deleted every photo sent to me on discs after our daughter's wedding and have no photos with the grandchildren which I deeply regret but can't face having any taken. People who have tried to be smart and take unwarranted photos have come close to losing their phone or whatever. On a holiday one person made it his aim to assault me with his camera, on the last evening of a three week tour I managed to delete them, plus the other few hundreds of the trip.

itssquidstella · 29/06/2020 22:19

It me.

To ask if you are photogenic?
Nicelunch25 · 29/06/2020 22:21

Can you get a video taken of you? I look terrible in selfies. Like so moody. But if someone takes a video of me chatting or engaged in something can always take good shots from it by just screen capture.

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 29/06/2020 22:22

No. Face like a slapped hairy arse, every time.

YouAreTheEggManIAmTheWalrus · 29/06/2020 22:22

No and when online dating was always told I looked better irl than pics. As for selfies, I’ve yet to take one I liked enough to use. Just so unforgiving and I invariably do a Chandler..

Cheerfullygo4 · 29/06/2020 22:23

Look horrendous in photos and irl so no photos for me.
