Is it madness to attempt a UK holiday this year?

Have put a deposit on a few nights camping later this year. Campsite open and running with some extra precautions. It's a place we've been going every year, no pool or bar or entertainment or anything like that there it's not that kind of place but always beautifully clean and cares for.

Thinking we will just keep ourselves to ourselves. Visit beaches and go on walks, take our own picnics or eat fish and chips. Doubt we will be going in any restaurants or visiting any major attractions.

But then when you see scenes such as Bournemouth beach recently it makes me wonder.

We have just booked a forest holiday. We would normally do beach but if everything else is not open nearby then the beaches might be unusually crowded this year. We thought forest with private hot tub was the way to go.

We've booked for October half term. Its only £20 deposit and balance not due until end of September, so we will have a good idea what's going on then hopefully.

We will try to do similar @Icecreamsandthebeach but we’re booking on the basis that it’s not insured so may have to accept that it’s a gamble on the money for camping and we may lose it with local lockdowns etc

Just booked a week in Cheshire in Aug. Our Crete holiday was cancelled by jet 2.

If we are locked down then and the schools don't go back the whole country will be stuffed

We're planning all our future holidays in the UK for the foreseeable. Avoiding hotspots ( like Bournemouth) and exploring less well known, less crowded, but equally lovely places.
Can't face crowded airports and packed planes.

I can’t decide what to do so following with interest! I was just starting to think about booking something in February when all this kicked off. Am very tempted to book a week somewhere in late August but can’t quite decide....the change of scenery would be lovely but am worried about places being too busy or the weather being rubbish and difficult for us to get out and about.

I think the kind of holiday you have described will be fine, we had a,week booked for Haven in August,I'm postponing because even though the site might well be open in not sure the facilities will ,but your holiday sounds different to mine .

We've just booked a long weekend away in a lodge on a quiet site. There's no restaurant or facilities so no need to see others. It has its own hot tub so we'll probably just hide away for a quiet weekend

We’ve booked a self catering apartment practically on the beach. We plan to go to the beach early each day and leave if it gets overcrowded. There’s other socially distanced stuff to do in the area. We’re going in August and looking forward to it.

I would normally rather stay at home than go self catering especially in the UK but I have just booked two short self catering UK breaks and I couldn't be more thrilled if I was going to a 5* hotel in the sun.

I've been shielding so we will be careful. They have cost a fortune and I will lose it if we can't go.
I wanted to go to Norfolk but it's booked up! Probably be very crowded in August so I will aim to go late September. Instead we are staying in North Yorkshire.

I'm doing a haven holiday at the end of August. Unsure at this point if entertainment etc will be open but happy just to go and explore Cumbria if not

Based on the state of Bournemouth on Thursday, I’m going ahead with my foreign holiday in August. There will be more choices of beach and people will be more spread out.

We're booked for a week camping in Wales at the end of August. Quite happy to not go anywhere, just swim in their lake, go walking (accessed from the site and acres and acres of their own land anyway) and bring food from home if necessary.

We booked a lodge with a hot-tub on a small retrat. if we need to stay in a lot then hopefully it'll still be enjoyable.

We usually holiday in the UK anyway but on larger sites with more facilities. Places like Butlins & Haven are offering less facilities but for the same price so it doesn't represent good value and you have to worry about potentially coming into contact with people from all over the country.

It's fine, just use some common sense.

we had our caravan holiday in Borth cancelled. you see we have a lot of animals and run a rescue so we normally have a couple long weekends a year.
the guy we rent the caravan off is a really nice man and the caravan is gorgeous. when all this started he cancelled our booking in May which we were fine with as the park was going to close. it only has a shop and bistro so no club etc suits us fine. dog friendly drive on beach nearby so its great for us.
anyway the other day we had an email from him explaining due to the new covid regulations he could only do weeks which we cant do as each week the van is occupied the following week he has to have the caravan specialist deep cleaned so he will lose a lot of income not to mention the time the park has been closed.
understandably he said it is making it hard to find the ground rent he is just a guy on his own and sadly it looks like the caravan will be sold. we are really sad looked everywhere but cannot find anywhere round that area to stop.
during lockdown not to do with it really but i had a nervous breakdown partner just stopped me taking my own life and still having treatment. it would be really nice to be able to have some sea air which we both love and let the dogs have some fun too.

I would be very interested to know some less known places to holiday in the UK? We usually holiday in Scotland at least once a year but have never been on a UK holiday aside from Cornwall, the lake district and Wales once each. Have never holidayed in a forest or anything like that, but we love walks. I wouldn't have the first clue on where to research quieter places

I’ve booked a cottage for a week in Matlock bath , I really don’t want to go but Sykes are refusing refunds! I wouldn’t hook if I didn’t have to, I’ve rescheduled my centre Parcs break to next year.

I’ve been looking for a cottage to holiday in the UK. Nearly 1k for 7 days. My Corfu holiday in July was about that for2 weeks. Ridiculous. I’ll not bother.

I am supposed to be going to Scotland but it looks like people living in England may need to self-isolate if they enter Scotland, so it's not worth it for us, we are only going Monday to Friday and I don't want to be sat in the accommodation the whole time.
