Why are womens pyjama shorts so short?

I hate it! I want to be able to have a nice bath at the weekend, get into my pjs and curl up on the sofa with a book. Only I cant as every pair of pyjama shorts I can find are so bloody short that when I curl my legs, EVERYTHING is on display, also I feel I'm constantly having to rearrange them or rescue them from getting wedgied.
I'm fed up of having to put different bottoms on or drape a blanket/cardi over my legs to save my teen ds' blushes.
I've tried going up a size but that makes it worse as they are then really baggy.
3/4 length are just not the same, I want shorts.

Mens shorts are longer... I'm currently browsing online and am considering buying some, but I'd like some nice pretty/funky patterned ones. Does anyone else have this issue? Can anyone point me in the direction of some decent length womens PJ shorts..... or some nice patterned mens ones?

Come on manufacturers/designers, is it too much to ask for some womens PJ shorts that are of a decent enough length that I can relax in the evenings without showing my teenage boys what I had for breakfast, and that don't try to cut me in half when I turn over in bed!

in the same way, long shorts for men sell, capris pants not so much

CherryValanc · 28/06/2020 15:48

@JaniceWebster

There's a ton of capri pyjamas

Long and baggy shorts are horribly unflattering, and most clients do not want them.. so brands don't try to sell them as the majority prefers either shorts or more capri style.

Crotch length shorts you wouldn't need to remove for a smear are flattering either. Not practical either - hence this thread.

Can you direct us to the ton a capri pyjamas? Though I think the OP wanted them shorter than that.

I’ll disagree, short shorts sell because there isn’t a choice. Give the customer and choice and we’d pick longer shorts. I don’t own any short PJs because I don’t want my arsenal hanging out.
DDs want dark PJs without pink on them or unicorns or cartoon cows- difficult to find and I refuse to buy why they won’t wear!
Same with swimwear all pink.

It sells because there’s no choice. If you want a swimsuit it has to be pink.

I mainly wear shorts in the summer, none of them are crotch length and they are all perfectly decent even when I stay over friends or family. I can't pull off short shorts Grin

But if I wanted longer, I'd go for capri. "Long shorts" don't sell so well, that's why you can't find them/

JaniceWebster · 28/06/2020 15:53

I tend to buy mainly from Primark because it's dirt cheap, but look online for choice

itsgettingweird · 28/06/2020 15:54

I buy the jersey shorts in a bigger size as PJ bottoms.

They may still be a little short for what your looking at but they have more than a hem at the gusset!

The ones in the 'men's' section tend to be better length and next cotton ones are really soft.

There's a few designs that site - all called Pretty Secrets Jersey Value Crop PJ Set

This thread is bizarre. I've always worn shorts to bed as I get really uncomfortable in long pyjamas. I'm a bit prudish and can't stand anything skimpy, and have never had a problem finding shorts of a decent length. My (fairly sizeable) arse certainly doesn't hang out of any of them. Mostly buy from Boux Avenue, La Radoute, and supermarkets. I also have a very thin cotton dressing gown from Matalan that is great for warm weather.

  • Redoute, obviously.

Loads here of various lengths and styles

I bought these ones the other day and they're pretty good. Not too low cut, top long enough, shorts sit comfortably on my waist and they aren't too short.

Redwinestillfine · 28/06/2020 17:12

It's not just pyjama shorts. I struggle with decent normal shorts and don't get me started on kids clothing. The difference between girls and boys shorts is quite something....

GoddamnGodBless · 28/06/2020 17:26

Wear cycling shorts or shop in the men's section then.

Personally I adore short shorts. I prefer sleeping without any excess material around my legs.

JaniceWebster · 28/06/2020 18:10

cycling shorts are probably a bit too tight and restrictive for most people to be used as nightwear to be fair

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 28/06/2020 20:42

I hear you, currently fighting a massive pj short wedgie.

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 28/06/2020 20:43

Cycling shorts.... To bed?????? Even just writing that out has given me thrush

Rumtopf · 28/06/2020 21:04

Next mens loungewear have mid thigh length shorts which are so comfy and have pockets!

I can't abide women's short shorts for no good reason. I was trying to find practical jersey shorts the other day and ended up buying mens as they were a decent length, had deep pockets for my phone and were over half the price.

woodhill · 29/06/2020 21:49

I tried my Joukes ones on and they were slightly longer than the M&S ones which were so skimpy

totallyyesno · 30/06/2020 06:41

@Redwinestillfine Very true. I get "boys" shorts from Okaidi for DD as they are longer, more practical and actually have nice colours. Too many boys' clothes just seems to come in dark colours.

StarlightLady · 30/06/2020 06:51

I think people are over complicating things. The answer is because men’s shorts require extra room!

ChaoticCatling · 30/06/2020 07:13

I have some teenage boy ones, just not the same ones as my teenage DS has!

PhoneLock · 30/06/2020 07:24

Same with swimwear all pink.

For adults? I must have 20 bikini sets. Perhaps more. Only one is pink.

Destroyedpeople · 30/06/2020 08:34

Obviously mens shorts need more room in the crotch but that doesn't mean that women's stuff has to be cut so short and uncomfortable.

Silenceisnotgolden · 30/06/2020 08:59

So that you can get air to your fanny?! Mine likes to breathe.
