Why are womens pyjama shorts so short?

I hate it! I want to be able to have a nice bath at the weekend, get into my pjs and curl up on the sofa with a book. Only I cant as every pair of pyjama shorts I can find are so bloody short that when I curl my legs, EVERYTHING is on display, also I feel I'm constantly having to rearrange them or rescue them from getting wedgied.
I'm fed up of having to put different bottoms on or drape a blanket/cardi over my legs to save my teen ds' blushes.
I've tried going up a size but that makes it worse as they are then really baggy.
3/4 length are just not the same, I want shorts.

Mens shorts are longer... I'm currently browsing online and am considering buying some, but I'd like some nice pretty/funky patterned ones. Does anyone else have this issue? Can anyone point me in the direction of some decent length womens PJ shorts..... or some nice patterned mens ones?

Come on manufacturers/designers, is it too much to ask for some womens PJ shorts that are of a decent enough length that I can relax in the evenings without showing my teenage boys what I had for breakfast, and that don't try to cut me in half when I turn over in bed!

I have bought 'loungewear' to wear till I go to bed. It's perfect. Grin

Thanks for the suggestions, will have a look.
I wear shorts to bed all year as get to hot in long bottoms. But it's not so bad in the cooler months as I wear I dressing gown, so I'm covered up, but it's too hot now.
Dh just suggested a linnen gown as will be cooler for the summer, so might get one as well as some mens shorts for now and look into womens options, or getting trousers or 3/4 length and taking them to knee length.

Not just women’s ones, girls’ too. It’s sexist bullshit!

Lucked · 27/06/2020 21:06

These men’s Pyjama shorts from next here Come in a nice range of colours rather than just navy and black.

My 6 yo DD now wears her brothers hand me down boxers. She has molluscom in her bottom and the elastic of girls pants was cutting into them, even the ones described as shorts.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 27/06/2020 21:14

Try jinbei. Japanese cotton baggy short PJs and a wrap top.

Veganforlife · 27/06/2020 21:19

Your not wrong op
I bought 3 pairs in the sale from simply be in a size 26 ,thinking they would last the summer ,labels off ,and the first night I wore them I woke with everything on display, both legs tucked to the side ..and it’s the same every morning..I may as well not bother wearing any

lockdownalli · 27/06/2020 21:20

I never have a problem with this - always buy from M&S. Just above knee length shorts pyjama sets. Smile

Nicknacky · 27/06/2020 21:21

I like short ones. I wouldn’t be comfy in longer pj bottoms.

OptimisticSix · 27/06/2020 21:27

This is so true, am wearing shorts pyjamas now and the amount of wedgies I've had on the last hour is ridiculous!!! Ive never thought about it before, maybe because Im short, but even so these are short!

HowFastIsTooFast · 27/06/2020 21:27

I have a pair from Superdry that are great, not super short but cosy and comfy. I've had them years so they don't have the same anymore but these are about the same length...

I've just looked through M&S's website and can't find any just-above knee pyjama shorts, except possibly for dwarves.

I have some really good ones that I bought from them years ago but can't find anything like them now.

sweetkitty · 27/06/2020 21:32

My 14yo and 12yo DDs ask for boys PJs for the same reason they doesn’t want to show their bums off and wants PJs that haven’t got sparkly unicorn tat on and are cut to show off the crease off their leg and bum. It’s sexist nonsense along with normal daytime shorts.

I've got these from New Look - not long but definitely longer than most others I've got! Some nice colours. I know they're technically not pjs but I wear them for bed.

Rhine · 27/06/2020 21:37

I have some knee length ones my DM bought me for Christmas a couple of years ago. They are like culottes. I think they were from Next.

Chouetted · 27/06/2020 22:13

On investigating the M&S size guide, I've just discovered that larger sizes of pyjamas have smaller inside legs.

That's pretty sneaky.

SpillTheTeaa · 27/06/2020 22:18

I find this and under no circumstances can you wear them without underwear unless you you want people to see absolutely everything. They are so tight too even if you get them in the right size. One wrong move and my arse is even more out on show than what it was before.

Ikeepbuyinganimals · 27/06/2020 22:39

Hemming my own PJs was the best decision ever. They're the perfect length and I still get to pick from all the fun Primark designs!

zerocraic · 27/06/2020 22:48

Men's Jersey boxer shorts, that's what I wear. No wedgie. Perfect. So glad it's not just me that finds womens pj shorts to be a total load of bullshit.

zerocraic · 27/06/2020 22:49

I feel angry now actually.

ktp100 · 27/06/2020 23:03

Do Fat Face still do pretty, girlie board short-type cotton shorts?

Worth a look.x.

Nicknacky · 27/06/2020 23:05

zerocraic Angry about what?

SeasickPenguin · 27/06/2020 23:23

Don't you know, only sexy tiny college girls wear such things, preferably in front of a webcam while playfully smacking each other with leaking feather pillows.

You have teenagers, hence are too old and must buy a sleeping bag instead so you can fully zip yourself inside. If you could get your head in there too, that's a bonus.

In other words, women's clothes are still designed to fit male fantasies, not women's physical comfort.

The only way you are going to get round it permanently is to make your own.

GreenTulips · 27/06/2020 23:27

Bit that creates another issue when your knickers are bigger than the shorts!
