Why are womens pyjama shorts so short?

I hate it! I want to be able to have a nice bath at the weekend, get into my pjs and curl up on the sofa with a book. Only I cant as every pair of pyjama shorts I can find are so bloody short that when I curl my legs, EVERYTHING is on display, also I feel I'm constantly having to rearrange them or rescue them from getting wedgied.
I'm fed up of having to put different bottoms on or drape a blanket/cardi over my legs to save my teen ds' blushes.
I've tried going up a size but that makes it worse as they are then really baggy.
3/4 length are just not the same, I want shorts.

Mens shorts are longer... I'm currently browsing online and am considering buying some, but I'd like some nice pretty/funky patterned ones. Does anyone else have this issue? Can anyone point me in the direction of some decent length womens PJ shorts..... or some nice patterned mens ones?

Come on manufacturers/designers, is it too much to ask for some womens PJ shorts that are of a decent enough length that I can relax in the evenings without showing my teenage boys what I had for breakfast, and that don't try to cut me in half when I turn over in bed!

Men's pj's or men's boxer shorts are your answer. Many funky patterns, much better variety than women's.

I hate cropped pyjamas, pyjamas shorts and also thick cotton long ones.

Finding ankle length pyjamas made from satin or a very soft cotton or linen is like hitting the motherload.

Plus I’m 5’2” so they can’t be too long or they drag.

I have these, very comfortable.

Someone mentioned buying tall range pj shorts. They don't exist! Not that I've ever found, ever. I buy tall trousers and gave up on pj shorts a long, long time ago. They extra cut you in half due to some bizzare assumption that we shrink at night between our waist and vag.

I may go back to checking out some of these links to men's PJs, but if anyone's watching and thinking of setting up a new business, women's shorts that comfortably fit our hips and go to mid-thigh (at least 6 inches below the crotch, 8 would suit me just fine) would be a winner.

For me the problem is not so much the length as the crotch to waist height - they are all cut so low! Got some from m and s recently and I either have to wear them slung low on my hips, or have a permanent wedge, both of which are uncomfortable.

I'm exactly the same long waisted, I can't buy any old trousers.

The M&S ones don't seem very good. I might hem some old bottoms which have become ankle swingers anyway

I find it’s the same with actual shorts too, I need about 3” leg length from the crotch for me and my teenage girls, if we don’t thighs and backsides just eat them.

I'd do buy some cropped pyjama bottoms in the USA, again a bit short in the waist, I end up with a cold back

Does anyone know of a good conversation scale between women's and men's sizes?

Nicknacky - if there was a thread about someone with a skin condition you didn't have, would you say the thread was 'bizarre'? If it was about a housing issue that you didn't have, would it be 'bizarre'? Probably not. So just because you don't happen to have an issue with stupidly designed women's clothing, it's 'bizarre' that other women do?

Will we see you on most other threads that don't resonate with you telling posters they're 'bizarre'?

Generally I do what I do with my daughter and shop from the 'blue' section for my PJs. I also find men's pj's don't shrink the way my normal ones do. After a couple of washes my trousers are always above my ankles.

I also got some brilliant womens PJ shorts set from uniqlo last year in a nice leaf pattern, wear brilliantly and no shrinkage with washing.

I'm normally a trousers person over skirts/dresses, but for lounging in hot weather, I prefer night dresses/long t shirt type dresses a lot more comfortable.
Just collected a long T shirt dress from M&S yesterday - comes down to mid calf, super comfy.

Pyjamas when it's cooler, but I've never looked at pyjamas with shorts, or considered the shortness of the shorts.

This turned into a thread about sexism as expected. Well done.

Report
crankysaurus · 28/06/2020 12:33

I'm not sure if that's sarcasm or not, Pineapple1. Clothing design is sexist when it favours 'sexiness' over comfort and practicality in ways that don't occur with the majority of men's clothing.

Because short clothing is a sexist issue.

Check outwear-pyjamas Uniqlo for lounge shorts and a few sets of mid thigh shorts PJ sets not a huge range of colours but comfy and long lasting.

PIneapple1 - Let me guess - you're a bloke Grin Couldn't be more obvious.

Very impressed with your patronising tone - well done!

Pineapple1 - You say it turned into a thread about sexism "as expected". Is that your main reason for being on this site? To trawl threads looking for sexism and then point out to the women that they're being sexist? Women can talk about anything they want to on here and they don't need a bloke to come along and try to derail the thread.

@Pineapple1.....well clothes design IS sexist as fuck. How dare you say 'well done' as though we deserve to be patronised for dicuss ing it. Sad little man.

@Pineapple1 - and why are you even reading this thread?? Did you think it would be thrilling?? Short pyjama shorts....oooh!

I have B/G twins too. They’re going back to school
Tomorrow and have been told to wear practical, comfortable clothes that they can do sports and outdoor activities in. No problem for DS, he lives in comfy sports shorts and tee shirts but a different story for DD. It does annoy me!

@Wellyouknowbest - Little White Company girls PJs come with sensible shorts for 8 year olds - sadly they don't then carry the common sense on to their adult range where the shorts are too short.

There's a ton of capri pyjamas

Long and baggy shorts are horribly unflattering, and most clients do not want them.. so brands don't try to sell them as the majority prefers either shorts or more capri style.
