Why are womens pyjama shorts so short?

NoddingTulip · 27/06/2020 20:30

I hate it! I want to be able to have a nice bath at the weekend, get into my pjs and curl up on the sofa with a book. Only I cant as every pair of pyjama shorts I can find are so bloody short that when I curl my legs, EVERYTHING is on display, also I feel I'm constantly having to rearrange them or rescue them from getting wedgied.
I'm fed up of having to put different bottoms on or drape a blanket/cardi over my legs to save my teen ds' blushes.
I've tried going up a size but that makes it worse as they are then really baggy.
3/4 length are just not the same, I want shorts.

Mens shorts are longer... I'm currently browsing online and am considering buying some, but I'd like some nice pretty/funky patterned ones. Does anyone else have this issue? Can anyone point me in the direction of some decent length womens PJ shorts..... or some nice patterned mens ones?

Come on manufacturers/designers, is it too much to ask for some womens PJ shorts that are of a decent enough length that I can relax in the evenings without showing my teenage boys what I had for breakfast, and that don't try to cut me in half when I turn over in bed!

This thread is really, really bizarre.

Floralnomad · 27/06/2020 23:40

The M&S ones I mentioned are not knee length but they are perfectly long enough to wear around the house whilst looking presentable . I wouldn’t expect pyjama shorts to be knee length.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 27/06/2020 23:43

I find I wear from 3/4 length pjs or nightdresses in the summer as I'm sick of shorts causing wedges.

What I find more annoying is that women's day wear shorts are too short. And are cut to too short and too tight on that really unflattering part of the thigh

FenellaVelour · 27/06/2020 23:47

I’ve yet to find a pair that don’t disappear up my arse crack, even though I usually buy a size up.

I go for cropped trousers instead now.

cakeandchampagne · 27/06/2020 23:47

@SeasickPenguin

Don't you know, only sexy tiny college girls wear such things, preferably in front of a webcam while playfully smacking each other with leaking feather pillows.

You have teenagers, hence are too old and must buy a sleeping bag instead so you can fully zip yourself inside. If you could get your head in there too, that's a bonus.

In other words, women's clothes are still designed to fit male fantasies, not women's physical comfort.

The only way you are going to get round it permanently is to make your own.

I got a couple of pairs of these from amazon and I'm in love with them. So soft and comfortable and a great length, they also have pockets!

ViciousJackdaw · 27/06/2020 23:49

@Nicknacky Do you have a pair of pyjama shorts wedged up your own backside? You certainly sound as if you do.

Nicknacky · 27/06/2020 23:51

Eh? I just don’t get the hate. If you don’t like short pyjama’s then don’t buy them. I prefer them.

How strange, people like different things!,

Although I don’t frolic in front of webcams.

MaggieAndHopey · 27/06/2020 23:52

This is why I wear men's pyjama sets. So much more comfortable.

emilybrontescorsett · 28/06/2020 00:03

Nicknacky you are missing the point.
What do you think women should wear?
Full length pjs and boil to death?
The op, and virtually every other female on this thread want short pjs which are comfortable and don't reveal your arse and vage.

Nicknacky · 28/06/2020 00:06

I’m not missing the point at all. I wear very short shorts to bed, I have no problem with wedgies. Maybe they are wearing ones too small?

Or look for slightly longer ones, there are millions on the market.

I just resent the insinuation that the wearers of really short ones are “frolicking”. It’s women’s that are sexualising these, not men!

kikilo · 28/06/2020 00:16

I have these and several other from Debenhams, very comfortable and no bits accidentally flashed! Team them with a cami top or t-shirt' www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_098010621045_-1

TeaAndBrie · 28/06/2020 00:20

I have exactly the same problem! I got a shorts and cami set recently from sainsbury's and they're a really nice length so would recommend looking there

Jarline · 28/06/2020 00:27

Ladies - have a look at Uniqlo, their stuff is fab quality, simple, and generally a decent length:

The hate relates to lack of choice of length. ‘Just don’t buy them when there’s nothing else on the market is a stupid statement’

SingleHandSue · 28/06/2020 00:34

I got a pair of pjs years ago in the sale from Tesco, they are almost worn out now but they’re the most brilliant pjs for summer.

The bottoms are knee length shorts that are almost culottes but not as wide, and the top is a long line vest.

I love them and hate that they’re on their last legs.

Chocolatefixeseverything · 28/06/2020 00:35

My daughter constantly complains you can't get decent shorts for her age group early teens, in her words "that your bum doesn't hang out the back " boys shorts aren't cutting it so having to cut and hem trousers/jeans to desired lengths. The difference in Male/female clothes from 4 on is quite shocking, I lived in jeans and baggy tees most of my teens dont remember it being as obvious.

Nicknacky · 28/06/2020 00:41

GreenTulips But there isn’t a lack of choice. Plenty of posters have posted links to websites with longer styles.

If you don’t look for what you want, then yes you won’t find it!

HeretoThereandBackAgain · 28/06/2020 00:53

It’s the same with pants and regular shorts too. The so-called ‘boyshorts’ for women are a joke. I buy men’s fitted boxers to wear under skirts to fix thigh rub.

I’ve been looking for decent shorts to wear too. They’re all really tiny, or terrible colours, or no pockets. Yesterday I ended up buying a pair of men’s board shorts- they’re comfortable, a decent length, have a fun print and have insanely deep pockets! Much better!

ThistlyPerf · 28/06/2020 07:27

And while we’re on the subject, why are pj tops so low necked? Not so relevant now in summer but I end up having to get men’s pj sets so my chest / décolletage is covered and warm.

@Nicknacky if you could link about five sources of the millions that is what @NoddingTulip asked for.

I noticed you've found it hard to understand, she asked for links to longer short-pyjamas that had a nice pattern, as she can't find any. Unfortunately, even some linked here are as longer shorts are still very short.

drspouse · 28/06/2020 08:04

And most that are longer are just plain, dark colours.

AnyFucker · 28/06/2020 08:10

too long for you ?
