To say I don't think schools will be back in September?

In fact I don't think they will be fully back until Easter 2021.
I'm posting this now because I've enjoyed looking back at my Feb posts (under a different name) that predicted what was going to happen and loads of people saying I was barmy/lost the plot etc.
I've read loads of posts this week celebrating that kids will be going back in September. Gosh I do hope they are right, mine are going stir crazy and haven't learnt a thing, however I think it's all fantasy and come September it will be the same as now, keyworkers and at best the odd year group. Please vote IABU all schools will be back in Sept or IANBU most will still be at home. Then come September I will update this post and see who was right.

Basically, OP, you have posted a contentious opinion on a subject many people are struggling with so you can come back and gloat later if you turn out to be right? What a self-centred thing to do. I am amazed that anyone is indulging you.

Foobydoo · 30/06/2020 12:59

@FizzFan

It’s not through spite, it’s about trying to keep people safe.

Why is it unsafe though? 1 in several thousand with the virus and falling seems pretty good odds to me. Children need to go to school and they need to go full time. It’s as important as the health crisis now.

And the kids who haven’t logged on or engaged deserve an education as much as the ones who have.

The whole thing is nonsense. I hope one day we are embarrassed as a country at how we treated the people we need as our future to protect people who’s lives are all but over. Absolutely ridiculous.

The main worry for me over schools is not that my children will get seriously ill, it is that they could spread the virus to vulnerable family members including myself or vulnerable school staff. This is why they are now closing schools in Leicester. Yes a balance is needed, children need an education, they need to see there friends BUT parents and school with underlying conditions are a higher risk from the virus and their lives are certainly not nearly over! A child will suffer far more trauma if their mum their parent, or their dad who works in a school contracts the virus and becomes seriously ill or dies that a child who is struggling with not seeing friends.
Mummyshark2019 · 30/06/2020 13:04

They need to be back.

Lancrelady80 · 30/06/2020 13:27

people who’s lives are all but over.

I guarantee you wouldn't feel like this if we were talking about your mum, husband, fifteen year old niece, best friend, 22 year old neighbour just because eg they are on high dosages of meds for asthma with rest of a worthwhile life to live...

Just because you are shielded does not mean you are on death's door ffs.

What a selfish, shitty attitude to take to a huge population of this country who either are or know and love one of these people.

This with big bells on. How vile to think that way. Poor kids with that for a parent.

Crockodoodle · 30/06/2020 16:05

@BlusteryLake not gloat no. I think it's completely disingenuous for the govt to be saying full time schooling from Sept. People are making plans based on this and yet they are already closing Leicester schools less than a month after openinhg non essential shops. If on posts you suggest that maybe schools won't be open people pile on you. I will lose my job if they don't open. I bloody hope I'm wrong.

They closed my daughters school back down yesterday due to a confirmed case in daughters year. I am so glad I didn't send mine back. I did question my decision but now I know I made the right one.

I think that schools will return in September but they will be opening and closing with new cases if they get them

Crockodoodle · 30/06/2020 16:17

@DomDoesWotHeWants what an interesting article, especially the list of what the unions are actually asking for!

OP posts:
Crockodoodle · 30/06/2020 16:19

@Idroppedthescrewinthetuna how much notice did you get? Have they closed to keyworker and vulnerable kids as well?

OP posts:
Pleasenodont · 30/06/2020 16:19

My DC’s school called me to say they will be returning early September with staggered start and finish times and they’ll be in a bubble of 15 although I honestly have no idea how they’ll fit classes of 15 into the school- it’s only a small school! They’ll also close every Wednesday lunchtime for a deep clean and there’s a one way system around the school. Sounded fair to me really although dubious about the bubbles, I don’t think they even have enough teachers tbh.

Crockodoodle · 30/06/2020 16:26

@Pleasenodont so already in a best case scenario your school won't be going back full time. It's crazy.

Is that a mainstream state school?

I’m surprised they are making decisions about September before the school guidelines are out.

Pootles34 · 30/06/2020 16:33

Pleasenodont that's how our school are now - very lucky with the layout of the school building I think, but the whole school are back, with kids going in two days a week, and Wednesday for a deep clean/planning time for teachers. 15 kids in a classroom at any one point, forming a 'bubble', with no social distancing within that bubble.

Obviously I don't know what the teachers think to this, but from my pov, it seems to be working well - and although far from perfect, much better than nothing. But - and I suspect this is a big but - i assume they can only do it because the building allows for it.

Crockodoodle · 30/06/2020 17:17

Pootles34 that sounds great, what years are they?

Why have they closed the entire school for one case? They do not need to do that.
Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 30/06/2020 18:04

@TrustTheGeneGenie because1 confirmed case in a bubble and one suspected staff case outside bubble.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 30/06/2020 18:07

@Crockodoodle the school made decision last night, school was closed as of this morning. As for Key workers children I am not sure. It just says school is closed

Bollss · 30/06/2020 18:08

A suspected case? Wow. Seems unnecessary.

TabbyMumz · 30/06/2020 18:15

Theres a big of me that Hope's you are right. I really worry it's too soon and at the worst possible timing weather wise.

Jojobythesea · 30/06/2020 19:43

I hate to say it but I think @PuppyMonkey is right Re going back and shut again by Christmas. One of my DS is currently in year 10 and I am seriously getting worried about how they will sort the GCSEs next year. 🙁🙁

Mintychoc1 · 30/06/2020 19:49

You’re very smug OP. That’s one thing we all know for sure.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 01/07/2020 11:38

@TrustTheGeneGenie The school os now in local newspaper as there as been misinformation. As parent of a child who goes to that school it is quite converning.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 01/07/2020 11:39

Blinking typos!
