To say I don't think schools will be back in September?

Crockodoodle · 26/06/2020 21:13

In fact I don't think they will be fully back until Easter 2021.
I'm posting this now because I've enjoyed looking back at my Feb posts (under a different name) that predicted what was going to happen and loads of people saying I was barmy/lost the plot etc.
I've read loads of posts this week celebrating that kids will be going back in September. Gosh I do hope they are right, mine are going stir crazy and haven't learnt a thing, however I think it's all fantasy and come September it will be the same as now, keyworkers and at best the odd year group. Please vote IABU all schools will be back in Sept or IANBU most will still be at home. Then come September I will update this post and see who was right.

Well as the slightest sniffle might shut down a pod/ bubble for 2 weeks at a time. Probably.

Lockdown was lifted because there is now space in ICU for those who will need it.

Oh look another teacher bashing thread veiled as something else

Christ bore off

Crockodoodle · 26/06/2020 22:01

I don't claim to be able to fortel the future, it's just interesting to see what happens. I hope more than anything that 'I've been at the gin'

I think they’ll be back in September and closed again by Christmas.Sad

Shitfuckoh · 26/06/2020 22:05

The PM can & will announce whatever he wants. He'll just put the blame (or plant the seed of blame) at the doors of the unions & teachers if it doesn't happen.
''All children in every school will be back in September'' - let's see if that's full or part time eh Mr Johnson?

I'm keeping a close eye on the cases between now & then regardless of what our fine government tell me.

tumpymummy · 26/06/2020 22:06

I work in a primary school and we are expecting all kids to be back at school in September.

user1494055864 · 26/06/2020 22:09

We've already been sent a survey by our school this week, on what internet and tech facilities our kids have at home, and whether they have access to their own equipment for the whole day, or whether they have to share with siblings/parents, so I don't think our school are convinced they can get us all back safely in September, and are preparing for the worst.

ItsSummer · 26/06/2020 22:12

@amijustparanoidorjuststoned

As a PP said, if they can go to the beach, they can go to school. YABU.
Except not everyone’s going to the beach...
MarshaBradyo · 26/06/2020 22:12

Our schools have been positive about return for all students but said they are waiting on further instruction from govt.

birdy124 · 26/06/2020 22:17

I think they will go back and then be closed again within a month or two. Restarted again after Xmas

YgritteSnow · 26/06/2020 22:23

Our school has published the term dates on their website. They're expecting to be back the first week of September. We shall see.

Bollss · 26/06/2020 22:26

@SewingWarriorQueen76

Surely only a positive test shuts down a bubble?
YgritteSnow · 26/06/2020 22:28

Oh look another teacher bashing thread veiled as something else

So any thread where parents are talking about schools and their child's education and how it is affected by Covid is teacher bashing? 🤔

I don't think it is at all. Many parents are desperate to get their kids back to school and back to normal routine. Are they never to discuss this then?

FWIW DD's school has been superb and I would be more than happy for her to be off till Easter but I get that others are not having that experience.

Jointhecircus · 26/06/2020 22:29

@Realityofsen

They will be regardless of the virus. They will just start doing more to keep the virus out of the news so people are less aware and kids will be back fully as if nothing happened.
I’m going with this prediction!
Keepdistance · 26/06/2020 22:30

If back or not i oredict many kids will spend a lot of time out of class. Those who get coughs or fevers (uti/ear infections)
If we dont SD other bugs will be about and everyone will be SI. If it gets too bad we will be back to not able to get testing so 14 days off for the whole class of 30...

Bear in mind tests are 30% false neg so once it starts to go up if you are unlucky and your kid is in with a teacher or pupil who gets false neg and back to school to carry on soreading it the whole 30 will get it.,
Also with siblings 30 are basically linked to the whole school.
So anyone sending them back after a minor cough or fever could really be infecting the whole school.

OhhhPeee · 26/06/2020 22:30

The government are blatantly reverting to Plan A, ie herd immunity. Only now, they’re acting all triumphant like they’re doing us a favour and we’ve beaten the nasty virus. Yay! Let’s all go out and celebrate...

Schools will 100% be back in in September.

CallmeAngelina · 26/06/2020 22:30

Our school has published the term dates on their website.

So? Next year's term dates are published on every school's website as a matter of course. In fact, I think ours has the following year's too.
It means nothing with regard to Covid-19.

CallmeAngelina · 26/06/2020 22:32

As a PP said, if they can go to the beach, they can go to school.

Well, actually, it may well turn out that "going to the beach" might be partly responsible for the second wave that prevents wider opening.

FizzFan · 26/06/2020 22:32

Get a grip

How on earth can this justify keeping children out of education for a year? Totally disproportionate to the threat of the virus.

TheMurk · 26/06/2020 22:34

Look. Half of the UK will be on a plane to Spain in about 15 days’ time. Kids will be on planes, in hotels, all over tourist hot spots, then come home and mingle with their friends as normal (which they all are already which we can all see with our own eyes on every street across the UK) and then what, they’ve to go back to school stay in bubbles of 8 and have lunch at their desks and get put in isolation if they have a wee sore throat?

Someone is having a right lend of the general public.

Lockdown is done.

Leodot · 26/06/2020 22:35

@SockYarn I agree, I think people’s predictions are getting silly. The infection rate and death rate are falling all the time and we need to start getting life back on track. I’m a teacher and I’ve been back for a few weeks. If it’s safe for me and my bubble of 15, surely it’s safe for my entire class. Keeping the staggered playtimes and lunch in our classroom is probably a good idea but I don’t see why all primary kids can’t come back.

I honestly don’t know about how secondary would work especially for lessons such as drama, DT, food tech, music etc where you need to be in a specific room. Also, the fact that some lessons are set by ability and timetables are often done based on which lessons/options you take, means there probably won’t be many kids in the school with the same timetable so it would be really hard to make bubbles. I can see how secondary will be a nightmare unless the bubble idea is totally scrapped and it’s allowed to return to normal.

SunflowerProsecco · 26/06/2020 22:36

I don't think they will as I think we will be in an uptick.
SAGE are saying the restrictions are being lifted too early.

gallbladderpain · 26/06/2020 22:37

We are back part time in September and likely for the entire 2020/2021 year with the bulk being remote learning.
I don't think you will be far wrong OP I can't see all schools being back full time before the Easter term next year !

CallmeAngelina · 26/06/2020 22:38

If it’s safe for me and my bubble of 15,
What makes you think it's safe? Because Boris has ordained it to be so?

ilovesooty · 26/06/2020 22:39

They will be back with no pretence of any social distancing in September. Johnson can't afford to lose any more personal credibility.
