I'm mean, yes I want things back to normal BUT I am still concerned in case we get a spike again. I agree we all need to be careful BUT clearly all these people just thought F* it.
All we've put up with so far with lock down and it seems every one on the beach in question decided to piss it into the wind.

If I were the government I would think I couldn't trust people to use sense at all and put lockdown back in place until either a vaccination or until people realised that if they want lockdown relaxed then they need to prove they can be trusted to show a bit of caution.

Rant over.

Get them all back to work. Too many people enjoying their assisted time off !

Classicbrunette · 26/06/2020 00:14

It’s mindless people. Why are people so thick ? The rule is stay 2 meters apart. Stay one meter apart if protections are in place. And why on earth would anyone want to sit on a fully crowded beach anyway ? What is the joy in that ? I’d much rather stay at home, use my garden and my toilet and my bin !! And STAY SAFE.

PotholeParadise · 26/06/2020 00:16

Googling newspaper articles (I ain't reading studies at this time of night) on "herd immunity" (I hate the way the expression is being used now) gave me the suggested figure that we need 60-80% of the population to have immunity.

And apparently London itself, centre of the outbreaks, has, according to some sampling, reached 17.5%.

Well.

verybritishproblems · 26/06/2020 00:17

I’m assuming everyone thought they had a great unique idea to go to Bournemouth and by the times they’ve driven 3 hours or whatever, no point going back 🙈

PotholeParadise · 26/06/2020 00:23

Hey, who wants to be really, really optimistic?

Maybe, just maybe people will get it this week, but due to low initial exposure (outside in the sun) and good health (all that vitamin D), they will have barely any symptoms and stay well and due to a combination of being unaffected (thus reduced viral shedding) and social distancing, they won't pass it on to others next week. And then their acquired immunity will protect others.

Nice idea, yes?

Osirus · 26/06/2020 00:34

@Flyingunicornsmyass

We live in a seaside town, for the past 2 days we've been unable to go out for exercise where we live because of the crowds and increased accidents, not to mention the brawl of 12 people arrested last week. I've lived by the sea for years, it's busier at the moment than every other summer I've lived here. 280 people died in a single day last week, I am sick to the back teeth of the 'it's in the guidelines' logic whilst ignoring how much common sense seems to be lacking.
No, that many people didn’t die in a single day. It’s badly worded in the media.

That number is newly reported and they go back to March.

Look at the stats of death per actual date - it’s been less than 100 per day for weeks in England.

PinkToaster · 26/06/2020 00:41

Live in Bournemouth and very upset at the disregard for everyone that lives here following guidelines trying to stay safe.
If we all headed to your home town for the day, swamped the place, left our litter every where, added an extra hour to your drive home from your job etc I expect you'd be bloody livid too. I wish some travel ban had been put in as we can't enjoy our local area at all since it's absolutely packed. It's absolutely heartbreaking.
I am not at all a covid panicker, have felt calm and safe in our area checking covid figures etc but now I'm not so settled tonight after seeing the sheer amount of people here.
Cars were left ON roundabouts at junctions etc just utter disregard for everyone. My kids literally didn't understand what was going on I've never seen anything like it today.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 26/06/2020 00:45

The less you let people do, the more they will turn up in the same permitted cluster of locations
This

(No I'm not going to a beach until I can stay near one because I wouldn't get pleasure from hours of travel and congestion to end up on a packed beach with few facilities, but I can see why this is happening)
and same

strugglingwithdeciding · 26/06/2020 00:59

@letmethinkaboutitfornow people are already drinking alcohol on the beach many bring their own but the my localish beach places doing take away alcohol and im sure same in a lot of places
Once pubs open and holiday parks etc people may be more spread out
I went to beach 6 pm today as we often do and ive never seem it as busy as it was any other year
But kids are all iff school , college , lots on furlough and not a lot of places open means people all congregating to beaches etc

OchonAgusOchonO · 26/06/2020 01:00

@letmethinkaboutitfornow - YABU - I am a big fan of herd immunity, clearly I am not alone

I assume you're a big fan of herd immunity so long as you and your loved ones are not amongst those who need to die in order to achieve it.

Mulhollandmagoo · 26/06/2020 01:02

People crowding on a beach to that extent is bad enough, but add in the anti social behaviour, the dumping rubbish, spitting at people and blocking emergency services vehicles on top of that....what's happened to everyone??

EmeraldShamrock · 26/06/2020 01:05

Shocking scenes the lack of common sense is staggering. There might be plenty of ventilators and beds but who actually wants to risk 3 weeks on a ventilator.
The rehabilitation process that follows kidney and lung problems, muscle loss, trachea damage.
I've definitely become complacent in small ways but those scenes are shocking. Sad

Allmyeye · 26/06/2020 01:32

Someone should tell Boris that he needs to stop believing in the ‘good sense’ of the British people because there’s not a great deal of it on display. A lot of this was caused by Boris saying you can travel anywhere. That’s when the trouble started. It wasn’t necessary. A limit on how far from home you’re allowed to travel would have been fine ( like in the rest of the UK) with exceptions for journeys to work. Something that did interest me. We saw on the news wardens watching with a view to closing the beach. A handful of them. Just how would that have been achieved?

Legoandloldolls · 26/06/2020 01:39

There wont be a vaccine e any time soon. We have to learn to live with it now. I think we will start to see regional lockdown.

On the lunchtime news they said 1 in 20 have had it. I was shocked as that seemed way too high to me. Who knows.

Officers are at the scene of an unlicensed music event near Colville Gardens, #W11. Objects have been thrown at officers dispersing the crowd. Violence will not be tolerated & units are responding appropriately. This gathering is illegal & we ask anyone in attendance to leave

PurpleTrilby · 26/06/2020 02:08

FFS, herd immunity is only possible through a comprehensive immunization programme. Demonic Cullings and BlowJob are murderous bastards.

strugglingwithdeciding · 26/06/2020 02:08

@Allmyeye judging by some if the parties/raves they have had to break up even staying local hasn't necessarily stopped people
And theirs a person on this post or the other with a busy beach in wales and they have a 5 mile restriction
People are aware of the rules but are fed up , we aren't used to not having our freedom and this seems to be causing unrest , thats why different lockdowns work differently in countries as cultures and other variations have to be taken into account
And its not the goverments fault people are shitting in the beach , i dont think that has ever been ok ( round the beaches near me toilets are open bit their are ques ) also leaving rubbish again not acceptable and you cant blame the goverment for that , only the individuals concerned
There are a lot you can blame them for bur people acting like twats isn't one of them

strugglingwithdeciding · 26/06/2020 02:13

@lego i cant see there being a vaccine anytime soon either and we will have to learn to live with it somehow
People seem to want to be restricted forever and cant see maybe if more things are open people can be more spread out , plus it gets people back working so not as many can go to the beach etc . The economy also has to start up as we need money to fund nhs and any possible vaccine , cure , furlough etc

flamingochill · 26/06/2020 02:54

I feel like government is setting things up so that we blame each other rather than then them for the high death toll.

With English pubs opening in a week I think it's impossible to argue that we are still in lockdown. If the weather next weekend is like this weekend I think we'll see a whole lot worse including pics of Bozo or Rishi pulling a pint.

nokidshere · 26/06/2020 04:14

Whatever the motivation for wanting to spend a day on a beach with thousands of other people there is absolutely no excuse or justification whatsoever for the disgusting mess they left behind. That is not the governments fault. It's not like it's difficult to have a bin bag and drop your rubbish in it throughout the day then take it home with you. People should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.

PhilCornwall1 · 26/06/2020 04:35

I feel like government is setting things up so that we blame each other rather than then them for the high death toll.

I said this on here a while ago and was flamed to shit (it was funny).

Of course they'll do this, deflect any blame onto the "naughty" public, its the only thing they are relatively good at.

Snugglepiggy · 26/06/2020 07:04

Someone said it's 100 % the Governments fault for encouraging people to venture out.But the sheer amount of littering and anti social behaviour why is that anyone's fault but the individuals?I'm totally fed up with the lack of personal responsibility in this country and there's no reason why even in a densely populated country like ours we shouldn't be able to go out and enjoy the lovely weather without trashing our environment. I live miles from the coast, and personally wouldn't dream of heading there just yet as there are plenty of quiter places to enjoy a change if scene and have a picnic- and take your rubbish home. It's shocking how entitled a lot of people are.Weeks -not years -of restrictions don't entitle you to party on with no regard for others.Blasting loud music, countryside littered and burnt by discarded BBQs, atrocious driving
and parking. No wonder some communities are totally fed up.Grow up Great Britain.

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 26/06/2020 07:17

This is the Brits Abroad behaviour, but not abroad Sad
its a nearly 3 hour drive to bournemouth from birmingham, no wonder they didnt want to turn back.
but please dont call them thick.
it is insulting.
they assumed they were unique in their plans.
the reason for declaring a national incident was to get the police involved to set up road blocks.

just keep your distance folks

ginandbearit · 26/06/2020 07:18

This what happens when you cant go to Magaluff.. you'll see the same behaviours there ( and many resorts like it ) but it's never reported here .

Napqueen1234 · 26/06/2020 07:21

The scenes were horrendous and I can’t imagine it being a joyful experience at all. I’m interested to see whether there is a spike in a couple of weeks as it’s the ultimate test of ‘it’s outside so it’s fine/low risk!’ However people travelled so far to visit the beach it won’t be as localised an outbreak as it could have been.

IMO it shouldn’t be a case of prioritising just locals for outdoor places but also considering those who don’t have access to gardens/outside space particularly children who would really benefit from some time outdoors.
