I'm mean, yes I want things back to normal BUT I am still concerned in case we get a spike again. I agree we all need to be careful BUT clearly all these people just thought F* it.
All we've put up with so far with lock down and it seems every one on the beach in question decided to piss it into the wind.

If I were the government I would think I couldn't trust people to use sense at all and put lockdown back in place until either a vaccination or until people realised that if they want lockdown relaxed then they need to prove they can be trusted to show a bit of caution.

Rant over.

I feel like government is setting things up so that we blame each other rather than then them for the high death toll.

I really wish that this was an impossibility. That to become a senior politician you have to undergo personality testing and a comprehensive selection process with independent assessors. That there were then some kind of professional standards and registration with good oversight and governance to make sure those standards were kept. That this would mean that if a power hungry, over-privileged, misogynistic, psychopath and his cronies accidentally got into power they could be replaced if they consistently failed to meet those standards (like any other professional job with a high level of responsibility).

But...

Sadly, I think you have a VERY high likelihood of being right. We we will never know, but what is abundantly clear is that the current government don’t give a flying fk about anyone other than themselves and hanging on to their power and privilege, as well as increasing their wealth. After the initial weeks of no cobra meetings and no lockdown and publicly shaking hands, I thought the shift to a more serious tone and clear instructions might be a sign of a move towards something I’d see as strong and compassionate leadership. I even at one point felt BJ was doing a half decent job. But not long after that I was stripped of that little ray of Hope. The DC twattery was the nail in the coffin for any last ray of hope I had of the Government leading us through this carefully. Sad

Still. The sun is shining again today so I’m off to Bornmouth beach to wee in the sea, poo on the beach and hug and lick as many people as I can!

Chances of the beach incident incident spreading coronavirus = Very low

Chances of beach incident causing lots of people on social media to froth at the mouth = very high

@madcatladyforever

I have the rage - I'm trying to to think about it because I need to go to sleep. Thinking about all of the Thursday clapping for the NHS then people do this. Let bloody COVID spread until it kills everyone off. The human race deserves to die.
well for a starters its not that deadly so it wouldnt, i dont know about deserve to die... but they deserve a wake up call, people are being so ignorant.. you just cant go anywhere anymore because places are packed out, and everyone thinks its over.. boris is not being firm enough and misleading the public into a false sense of security
pigeon999 · 26/06/2020 07:45

The scenes were shocking but not surprising.

People have been locked away for months, there is literally nowhere else to go, of course they are going to charge to the sea on the hottest day of the year. I expect the same to happen on Saturday when the pubs reopen. Much of the country are desperate for fun, good weather and some sense that this is over. I believe the council in Bournemouth and other places should have prepared for this!

Hot sunny day = busy beach

Would I go to the beaches with so many crowds? Of course not, it is my idea of hell, but do I understand the need to relieve the pressure of lockdown, absolutely. We are now seeing the consequences of locking society down and to be expected. It has happening in other parts of Europe as well.

pilates · 26/06/2020 07:48

FGS stop blaming the government and take some responsibility for your own actions. I don’t need to be told it’s not a good idea to sit on a jam packed beach when we’re coming out of a pandemic.

Troubledmummy3 · 26/06/2020 07:50

YANBU...the scenes at Bournemouth we're absolutely unbelievable given we are supposed to be 2m social distancing!!! I haven't seen my family since February...yet all these stupid assholes think it's fine to cram like sardines on a beach??! Absolutely ridiculous!! Oh and don't get me started on people not sending eligible kids back to school but dragging them out on days out!! Absolute joke! If we need to get back to "normal" get your arse back to work and eligible children back to school! Not the beach!!!!!!

pigeon999 · 26/06/2020 07:51

trouble Errr it is 1m plus now newsflash.

wanderings · 26/06/2020 07:52

I said from the start that all these curbs on our freedoms would eventually cause civil unrest. Perhaps this is it, although not in the form that we expected.

@Msmcc1212 I agree with everything you've said there. Politicians have so little integrity, that some of us have no faith in them whatsoever: see the Blair-Rich project. We've had the classic phrases then and now: "Let's move on"; "no apologies, no regrets".

And with the way that government and the media constantly lie, cry wolf and try to manipulate the public, many of us just don't believe what they say at all any more. (Were all those Bournemouth photos taken this year?) It took me a long time to believe in the pandemic at all, after the fabled weapons of mass destruction, which they hope we've forgotten about. And now it's the second spike which keeps being trotted out like a bogeyman, which hasn't appeared after VE day, previous "beach days", schools going back, and so on.

Buttonsorbows · 26/06/2020 07:55

They need to bring in a rule saying only people who live within a few miles of the beaches can use them. Ours has been busy but okay as people are socially distancing and it’s 5 miles long and I think a lot of out of towners have been avoiding it thinking it will be massively busy cos it’s usually a destination beach but if those hordes in Bournemouth and Dorset decided to come here instead we’d be stuffed.

Troubledmummy3 · 26/06/2020 07:56

Errr...not until the 4th of July it's not!! News flash!!!

Troubledmummy3 · 26/06/2020 07:57

@pigeon999 not until 4th July check my previous comment - rude much??

pigeon999 · 26/06/2020 07:59

They need to bring in a rule saying only people who live within a few miles of the beaches can use them

How would you ever police that? It is impossible, and won't happen. The most likely decision would be to close all beaches, but then you may see even more civil unrest as people decide to go anyway.

We need beach marshals, open facilities, extra toilets shipped in, police directing traffic as they have had to do in Spain and other places.
Once everything else opens, the beaches will not be so busy as people will have more choice and greater options. We also have a week of rain forecast!

We all need to go back to work and school that would solve the problem overnight!

Troubledmummy3 · 26/06/2020 08:07

@Pigeon999 we need people to use their damn common sense!!!!! Including checking their facts before trying to make someone else look stupid!!! You are also basically saying the government needs to spend even MORE money protecting selfish people who in the majority are clearly either on furlough or benefits? Because I'm pretty sure 500,000 people didn't just happen to have a Thursday and the hottest day of the year off!

dottiedodah · 26/06/2020 08:09

We actually live in Bournemouth(Not on the seafront thankfully)! and winced at the dreadful scenes yesterday .However people have been locked down for several months, and the Sun makes a rare appearance so everyone goes crazy! Not a lot different to a sunny Bank Holiday really. The problem is with facilities closed ,and nowhere to stay over ,the sheer number of people /rubbish and so on is unprecedented ,even for a seaside town like ours .

BeijingBikini · 26/06/2020 08:11

Let bloody COVID spread until it kills everyone off. The human race deserves to die

How would a virus with a >99% survival rate kill everyone off?

SockYarn · 26/06/2020 08:13

It's not just Bournemouth.

Kelvingrove park in Glasgow today was HEAVING with people, lots of teenagers at a loose end and the police had to come and clear it out. Lots of rubbish left too.

I don't condone it at all, but Saint Nicola of Covid has us all totally locked up with nothing to do for teenagers. All they're allowed to do is visit a garden centre or go to play golf, tennis or croquet. Hmm

merrymouse · 26/06/2020 08:13

YABU - I am a big fan of herd immunity, clearly I am not alone

'Herd immunity' is the result of vaccination.

What you are talking about is allowing people to catch the virus and hoping for the best.

totalpeas22 · 26/06/2020 08:15

I really fail to understand why people think, let me get in my car, drive in the heat, probably sit in queues, go to a beach jammed pack with others, then drive home in queues of traffic. Sounds like a horrible day.

We get this to a certain extents where we live, parking everywhere so people can sit by the river, nature reserve so no toilets and they have been leaving human excrement everywhere nice!

DiggingForClues · 26/06/2020 08:18

@iwishiwasonhol

as someone who works in a supermarket ,im more worried than I was at the start of all of this,as customers as rolling their eyes when i remind them to stand at the end of the checkout ,hey if you wanna do my job for 3 months and I can go to the beach and be paid 80% your can
I understand you totally.

I work in a small dry cleaners that provides a laundry service, we were allowed to remain open throughout but closed for a number of weeks as there were no customers.

When we reopened, the boss didn't make any changes at all to keep the staff safe despite having received a £10,000 grant. There are no sneeze screens on the counters, we've had to provide our own cleaning spray, wipes and hand sanitizer.
It's clear the customers don't give a shit about our safety as they throw their dirty laundry and dry cleaning on the counter literally right in front of our faces and on the ticket book we need to write in despite the fact we've spent our own money marking out where we want them to STAND BACK!!!
We've also been told not to wear masks as it looks unprofessional....

DilloDaf · 26/06/2020 08:18

They need to bring in a rule saying only people who live within a few miles of the beaches can use them

This wouldn't work and would be impossible to enforce. The beaches don't belong to those who live near them.
It would make more sense to control traffic coming to popular beach destinations.

flibbertmygibbert · 26/06/2020 08:21

We went to the beach on Thursday. We were there by 9am, had the place pretty much to ourselves for 2 hours and then a few more people arrived but were no less than 50 meters away from us. At midday we left as we could see a lot more people arriving and the tide was coming in, pushing them up the beach. I guess what I’m saying is that it’s not all beaches. We have been closer to people in our local country park. Totally agree that Bournemouth beach was absolute carnage though and not enjoyable at all.

pigeon999 · 26/06/2020 08:21

trouble You seem very stressed. The point is that no one anywhere is adhering to the 2m rule anymore, and haven't been doing so for weeks! It is not because they don't understand the rules, but they are mostly impossible to adhere to in the real world. In most supermarkets it is impossible, in schools, tubes, buses etc etc. Most are doing their best but with very little success.

It is a hot day, people love the beach, it is human nature. We should be investing time and planning into beach visits around the country to keep people safe. It is not unreasonable to expect some level of council planning for busy hot summer days, surely it must have been entirely obvious that this was going to happen.

We live in a free society and there are some downsides, but mostly I am happy that we are all getting back to normal, and if there is no spike in a few weeks after this, then we can be reasonably sure that we are out of the woods (for now)
