to think the royal family should have been more sensitive

Prince Charles tweeted: "Whether you are a Father, a Dad, a Daddy or a Pa, wishing you a Happy Father's Day!"

How about a short addition thinking of people who have lost their fathers given how many families have been affected by bereavement this year? They could have put 'and thinking of those without their fathers today'

OP posts:
sideorderofchips · 21/06/2020 17:46

Why? Is everyone else?

OwlinaTree · 21/06/2020 17:48

I can see what you are staying, but we could say that for every occasion really. Sorry if you are missing someone today.

RedRedWines · 21/06/2020 17:48

If you’re so sensitive you can’t see people be wished happy Father’s Day without making it about your situation you must barely be able to get through an hour without emotional turmoil.

NetballHoop · 21/06/2020 17:48

Sorry, but I say YABU. Give him a break, all he did was wish fathers a happy Father's Day.

Ilovetolurk · 21/06/2020 17:48

YABU. I’m sure Prince Charles is happy to be here for this father’s day.

imissmydad · 21/06/2020 17:49

My dad died 6 months ago. Today has been hard but I'm not offended by that message. He can't wish a dead person a happy Father's Day.

Andante57 · 21/06/2020 17:49

Following your logic then no one should post anything about Father’s Day - but you just wanted to be goady anyway.

salsa899 · 21/06/2020 17:50

as someone who has lost her Dad, I couldn't be less offended

AdelaideK · 21/06/2020 17:50

My dad died a few years ago. I still don't see anything wrong with the message. You are being really picky.

Oxyiz · 21/06/2020 17:50

Oh for heavens sake. Can no one express any well wishes or joy for anything any more without caveats and trigger warnings?

dementedma · 21/06/2020 17:52

Oh and I love that photo of Prince Charles being cuddled by Prince William!

AnimalCrossing · 21/06/2020 17:52

Disagree completely, my dad died but I like to see other people happy with their dads. We need to stop being offended by everything! Life moves on and people are allowed to celebrate and be happy just because my dad is gone.

MichonnesBBF · 21/06/2020 17:52

I am someone who has lost their Dad, Prince Charles has done nothing wrong, not one bit.
I have my memories of my dad that i will cherish forever.
No-one on this earth needs to validate, recognise or even comment on them, they are mine and mine alone.

eeyore228 · 21/06/2020 17:53

People seriously do get upset and overthink everything. A nice message was put out and people find fault because they think it wasn't enough.

avocadoze · 21/06/2020 17:54

You don’t have a right not to be offended.

ChaoticCatling · 21/06/2020 17:59

He's clearly wishing the fathers a happy father's day, not their children.

WarmSausageTea · 21/06/2020 18:00

My DF has been dead forty years, and it still sucks. But I’m not feeling your sentiment, OP. He could have, but no, I don’t think he should have.

steff13 · 21/06/2020 18:04

He was wishing fathers a Happy Father's Day. My father has been gone for 21 years. It sucks, but I'm happy other people have their fathers.

One of my friends wished her husband a happy anniversary on Facebook today. My husband and I are getting divorced. Should I be offended that she didn't consider my feelings before posting that?

ChicCroissant · 21/06/2020 18:05

OP, you have my sympathy if this is a difficult day for you. Sometimes even seeing the cards in the shops can be a killer. The message was targeted at fathers and wishing them the best - I don't think you can cover every base every time in every message!

I also loved the photo of William hugging Charles, both so relaxed and smiley!

LavaLamp5566 · 21/06/2020 18:06

How about you have a biscuit and a brew and you calm down

You're really making it out to be a bigger deal than it is. I freaking swear the Royals get hell for everything they do. Harry and Meghan getting hell for breaking from the Royal Family, Charles getting Hell for tweeting a lovely Father's Day message. it's like some people want to crucify them for existing

Goosefoot · 21/06/2020 18:07

I don't really think that's necessary, TBH. People lose parents and it makes us sad, but you know, we can still wish someone a happy father's day. I'm just not sure what this approach will accomplish.

BeijingBikini · 21/06/2020 18:07

Oh for god's sake - are we meant to just not say anything happy or congratulate anyone for anything in case it offends someone? If you can't read a 'Happy Father's Day' message on Twitter, then I'm afraid that is your issue to deal with and get help for, not the person who wrote it.

SteelyPanther · 21/06/2020 18:08

The perpetually offended.

FreddoFrogAddict · 21/06/2020 18:09

I lost my dad many years ago. It wouldn't ever cross my mind to think I'm being excluded in some way if people wish fathers a happy father's day.

violetscone · 21/06/2020 18:09

Anyone who finds today hard will be steering clear of social media.
