to think the royal family should have been more sensitive

Prince Charles tweeted: "Whether you are a Father, a Dad, a Daddy or a Pa, wishing you a Happy Father's Day!"

How about a short addition thinking of people who have lost their fathers given how many families have been affected by bereavement this year? They could have put 'and thinking of those without their fathers today'

OP posts:
Brieminewine · 21/06/2020 19:03

Some people just have to pick fault with everything or they externally combust 🤯🔥

Dahlietta · 21/06/2020 19:04

Well his own father is dead so.

Wait, what? How is this not major news?

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 21/06/2020 19:05

@Noeuf

No thats fine - it's to the dads which is nice.

I did email Nivea though to complain that they sent me an email suggesting that I bought my dad some skin care. Very much 'your dad' not a dad/a man/ a father figure etc.

Lots of companies now offer an 'opt out' from receiving emails relating to Fathers Day, although that is usually after sending an email about it, so you can choose not to get any more.
CustardySergeant · 21/06/2020 19:05

"Wait, what? How is this not major news?"

Because it's not true would be my guess.

Devlesko · 21/06/2020 19:05

Do you not think many would have died anyway?
Sounds uncaring but thousands have died with covid, not of it.
The ones who have died of it are negligible compared to those who have died of other things, caught corona in hospital and died.

SleepingStandingUp · 21/06/2020 19:06

Op in sorry you're struggling but yabu to expect every famous person expressing fathers day wishes to cover everyone. What about those who have lost their child or have never had kids but wanted them or those who hate FD because it reminds them of a father.

I how once this is over you have the chance to honour and tangent your dad proudly

Andante57 · 21/06/2020 19:06

Op why blame Prince Charles and not every person who has posted something related to Father’s Day?

SionnachGlic · 21/06/2020 19:07

Sorry that you lost your father & that this msg is making you sad...but YABU

sst1234 · 21/06/2020 19:07

OP, Are you one of those permanently offended at other people breathing?

Notmyrealname855 · 21/06/2020 19:08

Erm having lost a parent I can say I for one don’t give a toss about statements like that OP. I remember in my own way, I don’t need tweets and IG about it jeez Hmm Only time I’ve thought it nice was when those who’ve gone through it say it (eg Mindy Kaling), but it’s not obligatory!

SleepingStandingUp · 21/06/2020 19:08

@zingally

YABU.

Arguably, it would have been nice. But let's be honest, it's the royal family. They're so out of touch with how things are for us "regular folk", that it's probably for the best if we keep our expectations low.

You think the rf are out of touch with the fact that people's parents die and that's shit and hard? Because that doesn't happen to the RF??
mrsBtheparker · 21/06/2020 19:08

My husband died att he start of lockdown, not connected to CV, but it would never have occured me to be offended by anyone else's good wishes, I know my daughters have felt the loss this year.

On Mothers' Day I'm sure that William feels sad but it wouldn't stop him encouraging his children to celebrate their own mother.
It is possible to be far too hyper-sensitive, even pseudo-sensitive.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 21/06/2020 19:08

Where I do think YABU, its totally understandable.

After the death of my children I had all this anger, and nowhere to direct it, so if I saw something that could even vaguely be described as offensive to me I directed all my anger towards that, it was something tangible to focus my anger on.

Hope the day is as gentle as it can have been on you op Flowers

kojolo · 21/06/2020 19:09

I think it's absolutely fine.

I totally get that jerk of pain, OP. I get the same feeling when companies send me unsolicited emails on mother's day, reminding me to call my mum. I would if I could, random clothes shop!

But in this case, I think he's addressing fathers, not you. I think you're projecting.

I am so sorry for your loss. Flowers

candilemon · 21/06/2020 19:09

It’s absolutely fine.

AuntieStella · 21/06/2020 19:10

A friend of mine's DC died in the past year. This is his first Father's Day as a bereaved Dad. Cannot begin to imagine what his day is like today

The newly bereaved can find many perfectly ordinary exchanges of good wishes utterly unbearable at times. Social media is probably magnifying it.

But that doesn't make those who are celebrating normally, wrong.

What support do you have in RL, OP? Might be time to each out for help or simply a friendly chat with someone who knew your DDad and knows there is no time limit on grief.

StopGo · 21/06/2020 19:11

My DH died a few weeks ago, so this is DC's first Father's Day without him. We are not offended.

I'm sorry for your loss OP, we know how hard it is.

Or we could of course not give a crap and overthink such a nice gesture.
ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 21/06/2020 19:13

Dear Dahlietta I do not suppose you would possibly elaborate further regarding your above post that his own father has passed and is not news?? Super intriguing and inquisitive if this is the case? Not in any way with any intention to belittle this understandably sensitive and morbid subject matter.

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 21/06/2020 19:15

user1471510720 have some fucking compassion. That's was really nasty.

SerenDippitty · 21/06/2020 19:16

I have no surviving parents and have no children but Prince Charles' message did not offend me. It did get me thinking that there can't be many people like him, 71 years old with both parents still alive.

DisobedientHamster · 21/06/2020 19:18

Gees, it's fine! Does everything have to come with an encompassing clause now or it's offensive, insensitive, rude, insulting? FFS.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/06/2020 19:19

@Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons retired doesn't mean dead Confused

Op, I am sorry for your loss, but you just picked on Charles for no reason. Many, MANY, famous people wished happy father's day without that caveat.

Instatwat · 21/06/2020 19:20

While I agree that OP was being a bit oversensitive in her opening post, you lot have really gone too fucking far with the nasty comments. It is entirely possible to say YABU without calling her a cry baby, perpetually offended etc.

Her Dad has died and during periods of extreme sadness we do misjudge things and can be over sensitive. Those of you taking the time to write harsh messages - you might think the OP is being unreasonable but I think you’re all much, much worse.
