Other than drinking Fanta lemon, getting the paddling pool up and eating grilled bbq meat at lunchtime to try and recreate that holiday feeling what else can I do, we have been shielding and trying to make it feel different for when I’m not at work....

Takeaway
Drink from 2pm
Walk around in a swimsuit and sarong (whack the heating up if needed)
Make frozen cocktails

strawberrie · 21/06/2020 16:02

Read a trashy book!

topcat2014 · 21/06/2020 16:05

Holiday houses llook better, in my view, because there is no general day to day tat lying around.

Granted not an easy look to achieve

IAintentDead · 21/06/2020 16:06

Put towels as throws over all your chairs.

Line up flip flops by the door.

Make sure you have party bags of crisps/snacks to nibble on before eating later than usual in the evening.

Keep all doors and windows wide open (so long as safe) whenever it is warm enough.

Use sunscreen that smells of coconut to make it smell like summer - also shower gel, shampoo and conditioner.
Get some cocktail umbrellas and plenty of ice to use in your drinks.

90s dance tunes always help.

shakeituntilyoumakeit · 21/06/2020 16:07

Love all of these!

Chuck everything that isn't needed on holiday in a box and make sure it is totally out of sight at all times.

Add any post to the box without opening it
Light the bbq at least daily even if not cooking on it. A few coals burning smells like holiday.
Lunch time meals are all just snacky things

DeborahAnnabelToo · 21/06/2020 16:14

Go and wander around Lidl/Aldi in your bikini with a wet bum. Have a furious argument with your DH at the side of the road after losing your way to your one "historic" trip to a monastery. Snack all day long. Drink all day long.

Zaphodsotherhead · 21/06/2020 16:21

Melamine tableware. If you don't have any, eat out of Tupperware.

A lot of restaurants that don't normally deliver are doing takeaway at the moment so you could look for a nice meal. I was also looking at some nice deli stuff from a local deli and planning a really amazing cheeseboard.

YangShanPo · 21/06/2020 16:24

It is supposed to be a bit of a heatwave next week so that might work in your favour.

MikeUniformMike · 21/06/2020 16:24

Have sex in the afternoon after some sangria for lunch.

Sit by the paddling pool with a trashy novel and a two day old newspaper.

Glendaruel · 21/06/2020 16:25

My boss packed a suitcase and went to spare room and cooked Italian food for week!

Destroyedpeople · 21/06/2020 16:25

Yes it's true about the 'bare' look being more holidayish. I have gone for this look in my bedroom. The floor is bare and painted sand colour. The duvet covers are white and bright coLours..the curtains are candy stripe ..the dressing table is white and bare...and there's a few pix that look like holiday snaps. .

msbevvy · 21/06/2020 16:27

Play ocean sounds when you're sitting with your feet in the paddling pool

BabyofMine · 21/06/2020 16:28

I love the idea of sleeping in the guest bedroom!

Maybe you can see if you have some of those little miniature toiletries, take your normal toiletries out of the bathroom, add the rest of the stuff you use into your holiday toiletries bag 😂

shakeituntilyoumakeit · 21/06/2020 16:35

Oh wow I LOVE the idea of playing ocean sounds

Cocktails, around the world buffet or one country theme, you could decorate a room like a country and just have food and wine /cocktails from that country in it or do a different country each night. Like France you could stick up the French flag or wear it with a swimming costume, put pictures up of French monuments, get French food and wine in - baguette, lots of nice French cheese, some charcuterie, if you want a hot main course - maybe beef bourginon or steak-frites then a French dessert like ile flotant or creme brulee or some nice French ice cream and some French cheese with baguette. French wine to drink, maybe an aperif (like champagne/sparkling wine with peach) then maybe some music - the French listen to quite a lot of international music but there's songs like Je Ne Regrette Rien, Joe Le Taxi, Jean-Jacques Goldman Songs like Envole-Moi you could add in.

lidoshuffle · 21/06/2020 16:37

Get some builders' sand and stick it in all your crevices (personal as well as house).

tolerable · 21/06/2020 16:39

try to speak like a native

NewYearNewTwatName · 21/06/2020 16:39

lob a handful of sand around your kitchen floor, and walk bare foot or in flip flobs around it, don't forget to sprinkle some sand in you flip flobs too.
