Other than drinking Fanta lemon, getting the paddling pool up and eating grilled bbq meat at lunchtime to try and recreate that holiday feeling what else can I do, we have been shielding and trying to make it feel different for when I’m not at work....

Get a ton of sand delivered and pur it into your garden. Place a towel on the sand and sunbathe on it.

Chinesetakeawaay · 21/06/2020 17:52

We've been doing themed holiday days so today's is Spain. We are in at an all inclusive so had a fry up for brunch, allowed to drink alcohol during the day and dinner is tapas/paella/sangria. For dinner we YouTube Spanish restaurant music playing in the background Grin

Jaxhog · 21/06/2020 17:57

I love it! This cheered me up so much!

FourTeaFallOut · 21/06/2020 18:01

Radically reduce the number of chairs in your home. Everyone runs downstairs on a morning with their own towel to claim a seat.

ScrapThatThen · 21/06/2020 18:02

Do an online museum tour of the Louvre

SeaToSki · 21/06/2020 18:05

Put out deck chairs in the garden next to a paddling pool. If you have any German neighbours, ask them to nip round before breakfast the next day and put towels out on the deck chairs. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Manchmallehrerin · 21/06/2020 18:06

Set up a buffet table with a cloth - lay out a continental breakfast, rolls , pastries, cheese and meat, 3 different kids of juice and have coffee and hot chocolate in jugs. And a nice fruit salad.

we call it ‘hotel breakfast’ and the DCs adore it. They can go and collect bits and pieces and go up lots of times. You can also theme it to yur chosen holiday destination.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 21/06/2020 18:09

@Duggeehugs82

We also hosted a music festival in our garden (just me , husband and 2 children), 3 days music from youtube on tv in garden on homemade stage
Shock

Unless your music was so quiet that next door could not hear it in their garden I'd have had to come round and bury you under the patio.

That is hideous.

Raffaroo · 21/06/2020 18:11

Holiday music
Sangria
Lilos to lounge on
Sand pit 😂
Sun cream
Tapas

IndiaMay · 21/06/2020 18:14

If possible burn yankee candles 'black coconut' in the day (smells like suncream and holidays) and Yankees candles 'midnight jasmine' in the evening (smells like holiday nights). Have fresh coffee, watermelon and croissants for breakfast, skip lunch in favour of starting drinking at 1pm and big bags of lays followed by an afternoon ice cream. Bbq and salad dinner.

Quite like all these, may have to do myself next weekend.

321youreback · 21/06/2020 18:24

My friend and her family all spoke Spanish for a fortnight.
I just want to take a week off and sunbathe all week. Don't think the rest of the family will let me get away with that though. ( been painting all weekend so far)

ShinyMe · 21/06/2020 18:28

I had a hotel breakfast the other day. Orange juice in a tiny tumbler, yoghurt and fruit and granola all in one bowl, followed by a crusty roll with cheese and ham, and a cafetiere of coffee.

I might get some miniature danish pastries and some smoked salmon and cream cheese, and some bagels for next time.

ShinyMe · 21/06/2020 18:30

Also, I have a little chalk board in the kitchen, so I wrote up the week's specials in a curly font and tarted up words to make them sound fancy.

Whenwillthisbeover · 21/06/2020 18:33

We have been drinking home made cocktails since 2, just had home made burgers and chips for tea and I’ve eaten a full tube of Pringles today. Just missing the sunburn and salt and sand in my hair.

rosegoldwatcher · 21/06/2020 18:40

Take some laxatives to simulate the ill effects of the two star 'all you can eat' continental buffet.

AwwDontGo · 21/06/2020 18:40

I’m a bit worried about how much some of you are pissing your neighbours off 😅

Egghead68 · 21/06/2020 18:41

Daytime drinking.

frankie001 · 21/06/2020 18:43

Turn your heating on and sleep under a sheet.

Titsywoo · 21/06/2020 18:44

Constantly wear suncream - just the smell makes me feel like I'm on holiday

CurlyhairedAssassin · 21/06/2020 18:45

Blow a whistle every hour and make everyone dance the routine to this (bonus points if you're doing it in a bikini):

Destroyedpeople · 21/06/2020 18:49

Get your husband to moisten his hand with some cold suncream or similar and go around to all the women in the house grasping their hands , tickling their palms and saying 'helloooo my name is nico'

mumwon · 21/06/2020 18:52

no one mentioned ice creams or choc ices!
make bananas splits & ice cream sundaes (had to do spell check!) - order them from supermarket!

Eckhart · 21/06/2020 19:10

MyNoise.net

Lovely ocean sounds, and other 'white noise' options like cafe/restaurant. Or just plain white noise, to drown out annoying neighbours mentioned upthread!

Ducklingfarm · 21/06/2020 19:15

Have you seen the scenic shower curtains, people are attaching them to fences/walls in the garden and it looks like you're somewhere exotic or something.
These are on ebay but theres lots of scenes to pick from www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183936189175

Ratbum · 21/06/2020 19:16

Pack away all your clothes into the loft except a suitcase's worth of capsule wardrobe. Same with bathroom. Buy new fluffy towels. New music on mp3 player. I found watching Benidorm also gave me such a breather and I'd never dream of taking a pool holiday like that in real life.
