As per the title.

Is it a false widow?

It’s in the bathroom. I’m not overly keen on spiders but I’ll try and put it outside rather than kill it.

Or maybe I’ll go have a cheese and pickle sandwich and hope it’s not there when I go back.

Looks like a ~fucking massive~ house spider to me.

ListeningQuietly · 21/06/2020 14:46

Female taganeria gigantea
(not a male because no pedipalps / boxing gloves)

Let her live
she eats LOTs of midges and mossies

PumpkinPie2016 · 21/06/2020 14:47

One that's far too big to be in your bathroom Shock

I'm terrified of them but if you are not too bad, can you get a glass and piece of paper to catch it and put it outside?

There was a huge one in our living room one morning last week -it's not spider season yet!!

PumpkinPie2016 · 21/06/2020 14:48

Don't hope it disappears-you never know where it might hide in your houseShock

nonetcurtains · 21/06/2020 14:48

How big is it, false widows are smaller than house spiders. I think it's a house spider, they are paler when they've just shed.

user1471541923 · 21/06/2020 14:48

Burn your house down

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 21/06/2020 14:49

It doesn’t seem very big. Not like some of the other giant ones. I was trying to figure out how to get some perspective ... but that would involve getting near it Shock

That's a false widow not a tegenaria
Different shaped bodies

LochJessMonster · 21/06/2020 14:50

I think that photo is massively zoomed in and actually it’s a fairly small spider, not a house spider.

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 21/06/2020 14:51

Does that help?

GrinLook how brave I am! Haha haha

I think house spider too. I had one just like that in dds bedroom last night. I'm afraid to say it got the hoover treatment!

xxlostxx · 21/06/2020 14:52

Oh it looks only small. But get rid one way or the other!

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 21/06/2020 14:55

Would hoovering work with one of those dyson cordless hoovers? Bad enough having to use a kebab skewer to get all the dirt out without knowing there’s a spider in there as well!

OP posts:
nonetcurtains · 21/06/2020 15:02

please don't kill/hoover spiders, would you rather have all the flies they kill in you house instead?

Fortheloveofscience · 21/06/2020 15:05

Yes it's a false widow. Easy to evict to the garden with a glass and piece of card. My house is full of them!

CodenameVillanelle · 21/06/2020 15:06

They aren't a very fast breed so should be easy to catch under a glass if you can manage it

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 21/06/2020 15:11

Don’t worry, I won’t hoover it. I’ll get it out with a glass

OP posts:
MitziK · 21/06/2020 15:12

Just a female Steatoda nobilis spider.

Glass and a piece of card, pop it outside, job done.

Cherrysoup · 21/06/2020 15:22

Omg, I use a kebab skewer too! Definite design fault!

Givingup123456 · 21/06/2020 15:29

İt's a false widow. Been bitten by one. Quite common in the SE. But the bite hurts like hell!

Oldraver · 21/06/2020 16:17

We have loads but they mostly live ihn the garden

I did evict one that had taken up residence on the beer fridge

SweetPetrichor · 21/06/2020 16:37

There are no dangerous spiders in the UK. She’ll keep the flies away for you. Grin

Malbecblooms · 21/06/2020 16:40

Yes I would absolutely take flies over spiders any day of the week.

Emmaw1969 · 21/06/2020 16:45

Yes, without a shadow of a doubt.
