Anyone recall this lively but good-natured discussion from earlier in the year? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3817800-Is-the-chosen-English-rugby-anthem-appropriate-do-you-think?pg=1

What do we all think now given the shift in attitudes to slavery and things associated with slavery? I think the attitude back in February was that it was ok, because it was initially sung in the context of rugby by a black player. BBC reporting that that player's nickname was Chariot which is why he sang it.

AIBU to be interested in whether our views have changed at all?

You're having a 'view' because you get to join in with the girls. I've noticed you a lot over time Simon - always trying to join in with the majority. Never having an opinion of your own.

What is your opinion Simon? So far, all you've added to the discussion is that you have brown skin. We already know you're male.

Nasturtiums? Comes from Latin doesn't it?

Oops! That could very easily out me in real life... [waves to all who recognise her]

GimmeAy · 20/06/2020 14:38

Simon has finally got the womenfolk falling at his feet in awe. All hail the male poster (inclusion and all that).

Yes, twists your nose, doesn't it? Grin

You have a rather active imagination
CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 14:41

Are you trying REALLY HARD to be so obnoxious MNHQ delete you and all your shiny silliness?

Might work... you could get lucky!!!

GimmeAy · 20/06/2020 14:41

Thought you'd use something from the British Empire rather than stealing something from the Roman Empire? Tut tut.

Why thank you Simon.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 14:44

Well... as the word itself is Old English, coined after those naughty Romans colonised the world.

English, sorry Brits, have long been inclusive, or rapacious, depending on your perspective, how far back you want to go!!

Any moment now.

Luckily this will erase the embarrassing swooning over Simon we are all doing. I just can't help myself. Hmm

mrsBtheparker · 20/06/2020 14:44

Brits sing Swing Low Sweet Chariot

I find the use of 'Brits' offensive, I'm a Broton, to whoM do I complain or as I am 'white' maybe I'm not allowed to be offended!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 14:46

Bugger! I misread the room on that one.

So far I've inferred he is Satan, Monty Python or just a very silly boy!

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/06/2020 14:52

We are ALL INDIVIDUALS.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 14:58

Between that, John Cleese "I want to be a woman" and the song Get Back, for the "get back Loretta" lyric, I've had a hard time not posting the whole of YouTube this morning!

Hello. I think you've been expecting us to drop in with a reminder of our Talk Guidelines...which, among other things, call for civil discussion even if you strongly disagree and don't allow for personal attacks or deliberately inflammatory posts.

Thanks!

strugglingwithdeciding · 20/06/2020 15:05

Martin ofiah doesnt think it should be banned , have the actual black players decided it should be banned or been consulted ?
How would they stop 40000 people singing it which banning would encourage , rather than encouraging it to be be replaced
There are black players in rugby but rugby is still very much full of private school children only a few make it that haven't has a private education in england regardless

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 15:07

Thank you Becky. We consider ourselves fully admonished Smile

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 15:10

Private education for rugby?

Maybe in some areas but, again at the chance of outing myself, I have taught lots of the women's team and not a few of the mens team and lots of club players, male and female too. And have never set foot in a public school!

strugglingwithdeciding · 20/06/2020 15:11

@Gimmeay the english are too thick you have put
I find that offensive , how is it ok for you to say that ??

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 15:12

It isn't but, hopefully, the MNHQ message will be the end of it. And OPs own nasty words will stand.

GimmeAy · 20/06/2020 15:15

Cheers Becky!

@curious majority of england tea went to private school
Im nit talking about playing rugby my dc play rugby but getting into academies is easier if at private school than a state
State school rugby is generally poor

strugglingwithdeciding · 20/06/2020 15:22

@Gimmeay you asked for them to review attacks on you what about your attacks in the english or is that ok ?? Sorry but i call that double standards

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 15:23

I am trying to think of the teens I taught, in a specialist FE college, state not private. You could be right for many, though quite a few were from big standard comprehensives with good links to Grass Roots academies.

The RFU has been working on that for decades.
