Anyone recall this lively but good-natured discussion from earlier in the year? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3817800-Is-the-chosen-English-rugby-anthem-appropriate-do-you-think?pg=1

What do we all think now given the shift in attitudes to slavery and things associated with slavery? I think the attitude back in February was that it was ok, because it was initially sung in the context of rugby by a black player. BBC reporting that that player's nickname was Chariot which is why he sang it.

AIBU to be interested in whether our views have changed at all?

How many of them went on scholarships? Genuine question - I don't know the answer but I think it might account for some of the private schooling.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/06/2020 15:24
@Gimmeay you asked for them to review attacks on you what about your attacks in the english or is that ok ?? Sorry but i call that double standards
They've deleted some of OP's posts. Oddly since OP told them firmly to tell us off.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 15:26

Have they? I'm on my phone/app and have bookmarked as I go, so I haven't seen that!

Ah well. Petards still hoist, it seems Grin

strugglingwithdeciding · 20/06/2020 15:29

@PastMyBestBeforeDate quite a few in scholarships i think to be fair
It is slowly changing and some areas have better links with clubs and state schools than others

strugglingwithdeciding · 20/06/2020 15:29

@MrsTerryPratchett funny that

GimmeAy · 20/06/2020 15:30

Becky is clearly English. Doesn't bother me.

@CuriousaboutSamphire

Private education for rugby?

Maybe in some areas but, again at the chance of outing myself, I have taught lots of the women's team and not a few of the mens team and lots of club players, male and female too. And have never set foot in a public school!

oooo really, I wonder if our paths have crossed at all. My team are in London 3 Essex, our crest is an Elephant. I used to play national league 1.
GimmeAy · 20/06/2020 15:31

Oh MrsTerry - you mean the ones you reported which you could vaguely state breached talk guidelines? Not the 50 or other goady cunt posts directed at me?

OP posts:
CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 15:32

Don't go there!!! The world is too small as it is!

GimmeAy · 20/06/2020 15:33

Given how the thread has evolved, I'll leave you all to flirt away with Simon. Enjoy!

But no, I doubt it. Specialist sport college with the first RFU Academy for women/ girls... Out in the sticks!!

I may have to change my name again now Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/06/2020 15:35

I didn't report anything. I'd rather those posts stood actually.

For future reference, and you can check, when I report, I say I reported.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 15:36

You do know you can say cunt here, don't you? There are no rules against swearing.

Just those vague ones about personal attacks, racism etc

SimonJT · 20/06/2020 15:37

Ah, I know where you mean. The international woman of mystery is revealed!
strugglingwithdeciding · 20/06/2020 15:38

@CuriousaboutSamphire yes exactly

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 20/06/2020 15:38

Oh OP you never did explain how you misread what the BBC report said. And now you're gone.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 15:40

It is a bit revealing, there is only 1 such college.

Local club ain't too bad either 😂

SimonJT · 20/06/2020 15:46

Yes, very true on both points.

We’re the very first club of its type, like many things the idea came about from being drunk in the pub!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 15:48

Oh! I may allow myself a guess... But may be barking up the wrong pink tree!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 20/06/2020 15:51

Ah I think I've read about Simon's club :)

SimonJT · 20/06/2020 15:52

Correct pink tree.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 15:55

So... that makes you a naughty pink, brown man!!!

OP may indeed explode.

Or maybe smug, with all our flirting come to nought

missyB1 · 20/06/2020 16:17

Has the OP flounced off yet? Honestly this thread was nothing but goady fuckery!

MockersMisguidedByTheScience · 20/06/2020 16:18

As an American I was shocked when I moved to England and heard it being sung during rugby matches. “You’ve got to be kidding me!”

Two nations divded by more than a (mostly) common language.

I was pretty disgusted by the behaviour of the US Women's Football team in last year's World Cup, openly mocking their opponents on the field.

I am also led to understand they still play Gary Glitter at US schools sporting fixtures.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 20/06/2020 16:25

Ya wanna be in my gang?

Oh no!!!?
