Will you be booking a (post-lockdown) UK holiday this year

Just wondering if anybody here is planning to go on a UK holiday / break now that lockdown restrictions are starting to be lifted (obviously I know this is all dependent on there not being another wave). If so where are you planning on going / what kind of thing are you planning to do? We would like to book maybe 3 nights somewhere with our three kids (12, 3 and 8 months) last week of August but I'm just not sure what to look for. Husband said about taking them to Longleat and staying in a hotel in Bath but I'm worried there wont be much else open for us to do (restaurants / parks, etc). Or do we try and find a caravan or lodge closer to nature trails etc...

Just wondered what everyone is planning to do? Much as I would love to go, for financial reasons Center Parcs is not an option this year!

I want to, but dh rightly pointed out we maybe could do without time altogether having been forced to spend 24/7 with each other for the last 3 months. Might do a couple of nights camping with friends. Might look at some day trips instead.

We’ve got a holiday booked in September. It was booked a year in advance so well before Covid started. We will still go if the holiday park is open and accepting visitors. I don’t hold out much hope for any of the stuff we usually do being open - parks / soft play / swimming pool / the zoo etc but we will find other stuff to do (maybe hire bikes / coastal walks / games on the beach). We are happy to make it work with whatever is available at the time.

Food wise - we will do a click and collect from Asda and will have a takeaway at some point during the week - so not much different to when we are at home.

The only thing I’m slightly concerned about is the attitude from (some of) the locals.

Have booked a week in the Lake District in October....just hoping we get decent weather!! Its self catering so at least we will be able to look after ourselves :)

We've always holidayed in the UK - last specific booking was CentreParcs (younger finally old enough to do the quadbiking) but we've also done Haven and Butlins, and a Lake District hotel; and when they were younger we several times did Legoland with a nearby hotel as part of the trip south to see family.

Having said that - I'm not sure I'd want to go anywhere this year, even though we unexpectedly have older with us all summer. Things will be either closed or with restrictions, and everyone will be stressed and grumpy (because they wanted a holiday in the sun, or because they want a Proper Holiday with all the things, or because they're having to do tourist work when what they really want is to shut themselves away). I suspect it would be much better to stay based at home and just do holiday-type stuff here.

I mean let's face it, walking along the river into town and having lunch at Wetherspoons is going to feel like a massive treat once it finally happens

We usually spend 6 weeks in France as have holiday home there. I don't think we will go this year which is sad.

We are wondering whether to look for somewhere to rent in Cornwall but worried it will be rammed.

We like large uncommercial beaches where child can swim and play cricket on beach. Then eat out in quiet and pretty restaurant in evenings with good dog walking thrown in. We just think very few will holiday in Europe this year so UK will be crowded.

I had a city break booked in October, I’m not sure if it will go ahead but not overly concerned. I booked a fully refundable hotel room that I don’t have to pay for until a couple of days before I go, so not got money tied up in it as haven’t paid it yet. The only thing I’ve paid for in advance is theatre tickets but I’ve found theatres have been good at refunding so not really worried.

I’d booked it before coronavirus really started spreading over here. I wouldn’t be booking anything now for this year though.

Waiting to find out if we'll be able to go.

Our holiday for end July is going ahead with reduced facilities open. We are planning on still going. Most of what we had planned to do is outside, national trust etc so apart from the on site facilities and eating out it should still be a good break for the kids.

We cancelled our planned holiday to a caravan park in North Devon which should have been for w/c 30th March. Considering going in mid September if things are looking better (we will have a 3 month old and will need to get there on public transport which will take around 2hrs). We’ll see how things are with the baby though and are planning to literally just book it the week before if we do go.

I would like to book a holiday cottage for July or August but I don't want to do that before I am sure it will go ahead, and I think once that confirmation is given, it will be very hard to book anywhere as they may be prioritising those who had already booked earlier in the summer and been cancelled and also there will be a flurry of bookings. My second choice would be a few days camping in Norfolk, the campsite we usually go to is being quite pessimistic about opening though, and also I am not sure how much I want to share toilets and washing up facilities with loads of other people.

We’ve booked an October half term U.K. break as we have had to cancel our planned June trip to Cornwall. Our holiday abroad has been re-scheduled for next year.

Yes we are renting a cottage in Cumbria in the last week of July which was booked last yr before the appearance of the lurgy.

Spoke to the rental manager yesterday and they are hoping to open on 4th July but just awaiting clarification from Bojo.

It doesn't bother us if everywhere is shut. DS 15 has SEN and we don't do the usual family things, can't eat out or visit attractions which usually hurts like hell but for the first time in 15 years I actually feel like that we are the lucky ones! Nothing has changed for us!

We take all our own food and drinks and just enjoy someone else's four walls.

No. We have time booked off in July for a European holiday which has been cancelled..I tried to book an Airbnb local.to my parents for the same dates but they say they are not taking bookings yet.

I’m thinking we might go camping. Just locally. I’m happier with that than somewhere where other people have stayed

We have just booked a week in a self catering cottage in July. We are taking our bikes and planning lots of cycle rides, weather permitting. We have booked somewhere with a garden so we can sit outside with wine if pub gardens aren't open by then

We have cancelled. Yes there are regrets, now things may be opening up but we are shielding anyway so its wait and see.

I’d like to book a cottage near family in August, but the main cottage provider in the area (Sykes) have really unattractive cancellation terms if we can’t go due to Covid - you can only use the money on the same cottage, or possibly get a refund (less Sykes’ fee) if the property owner agrees at the time.

So I’ll probably wait to see nearer the time if anything is available, or if not maybe go camping somewhere.

We won't be bothering unless the pubs and restaurants open up properly. We haven't got young kids so it is just the two of us and a big part of our breaks is eating out and going to bars/pubs. Yes, we could do other things in the daytime but it would be pointless for me to then sit in a holiday cottage and have to cook meals and drink in the garden!

The U.K. is so disappointing for holidays at the best of times. It just doesn’t feel like a break and at present what would you do apart from sit in a damp holiday cottage? Nowhere to go out to. I had time off booked for a holiday abroad in July which won’t be happening. We will stay home and save the money in the hope that it’s possible to go somewhere next year.

Yes, just managed to book one for July to the Isle of Wight.
I expect we'll be doing lots of walking, playing on the beach and swimming, fishing, hopefully managing a beer or two in a pub garden! Expectations are being kept very low - it'll just be nice to be somewhere that's not here.

Really, really hope it doesn't rain...

We are booked to go to the seaside end of July, still hoping to go. Even if everything is closed, we'll be content.
