Are you still wiping groceries?

Just that! We have been wiping food shopping items as some of the family are vulnerable (not shielding) but wondering if it's time to stop?

I never was. Just put it away and wash your hands, that should be enough.

Changednamesorry · 18/06/2020 00:10

In Spain and we still are. Although we now don't wipe non food items and no longer strip all outside clothes off and have a shower immediately on returning home. Little by little in our house.

areallthenamesusedup · 18/06/2020 00:11

Unless you lick the cans when they come in, can't see why good handwashing routine isn't enough.

Bunnymumy · 18/06/2020 00:11

Just the fridge stuff gets a quick wipe.

And whatever I'm gonna use within a day or two.

Itthistheend · 18/06/2020 00:11

I know someone who tested positive a week after dropping off shopping at her shielding grandparents and one of them is now in hospital with the virus...
It’s so hard to tell if wiping makes much difference to the chances of catching it just now though so really I’d only wipe if it’s not a difficult or time consuming task to do.

BlueVinca · 18/06/2020 00:12

I haven't done this. I've always just washed my hands after handling them when i first get them home. By the next day i don't wash my hands after touching them (other than normal handwashing before eating etc

DramaAlpaca · 18/06/2020 00:14

No wiping groceries here, just lots of handwashing.

avamiah · 18/06/2020 00:16

I haven’t been doing it, apart from fruit , bananas , oranges.
I always wash fruit but not fruit that you peel but I have been washing them now .
Do whatever your happy with .

skippy67 · 18/06/2020 00:20

I never was.

MissConductUS · 18/06/2020 00:25

Tbh, not really, since it became apparent that surface transmission is pretty unlikely.

BoggiesBonnieBelle · 18/06/2020 00:27

Yes, still wiping everything here.

Isawthathaggis · 18/06/2020 00:28

Did it once, it was a faff, now I wash my hands.
I can’t see that the viral load, if it’s there, is going to be enough on an individual item to be dangerous.

I do wash fruit, but I always have, so no change really.

FluffyKittensinabasket · 18/06/2020 00:28

Never started.

sessell · 18/06/2020 00:29

Yes still wiping everything in soapy water. It doesn't take long.

FluffyKittensinabasket · 18/06/2020 00:30

Back in April, posters here were saying they washed everything with Zoflora. And takeaways would infect you and you would die.

Nickname21 · 18/06/2020 00:30

I have never wiped groceries.

SpiritEssence · 18/06/2020 00:30

Nope never have and doubt I'll start now

Hagisonthehill · 18/06/2020 00:31

Don't do this, don't strip off at the door just lots of handwashing.
I also don't wear masks when out and about..I do keep 2m away from people though not at work,in ppe you have to get closer often to hear what is being said.

Freetodowhatiwant · 18/06/2020 00:32

I was doing it but have now gradually drifted into not doing it.

WeeM · 18/06/2020 00:32

I was thinking about posting this very thing earlier! I don’t but I wondered if everyone else was. It would take so long and use so many wipes. The only thing I wipe is cans that you drink from or a packet of something if I’m going to eat it right away. I just wash my hands after putting it away and wipe the door handles that I’ve touched.

BlueVinca · 18/06/2020 00:33

We've enjoyed takeaways during lockdown. Usually get them once every few months but have been getting them every week as something to look forward to

copperoliver · 18/06/2020 00:33

We still do, I am still doing everything as at the beginning of the pandemic, plenty of hand washing, spraying light switches ect. It's going to take me a very long time to stop I'm afraid. X

BogRollBOGOF · 18/06/2020 00:33

Always sounded like a slipery slope with no end game on when it's "safe" to stop.

I'm sanitising before and after the supermarket and a handwash on getting in and after putting the shopping away. I always washed hands after anyway as they just feel dusty. After 2.5 hours to do two supermarkets and putting the food away, no way am I wasting even more time by wiping it down.

The virus showed traces on various surfaces, but there's a difference between "traces" and a quanity and condition sufficient to make soeone ill.

A bit like when DS had food allergies, we didn't eliminate products with hypothetical "may contain traces" as the risk of reaction was outweighed by the inconvenience of eliminating so many foods that were very unlikely to trigger a reaction.
Had he have had a very sensitive anphyactic reaction that risk assessment would have been different. "Shielding" or "vulnerable" is not a blanket risk. I'd weigh up old age/ diabetes/ imunocompromised differently as the risks of catching/ risks of complications differ.

DifferentRoad · 18/06/2020 00:35

Yep still doing it

Nanny0gg · 18/06/2020 00:40

Didn't do it in the first place.
