Are you still wiping groceries?

Just that! We have been wiping food shopping items as some of the family are vulnerable (not shielding) but wondering if it's time to stop?

Standrewsschool · 18/06/2020 02:53

Sorry, never have.

polkadotpixie · 18/06/2020 03:16

Never have done, nor do I quarantine it or any deliveries etc

We're under 40, no health conditions etc so not vulnerable, plus I'm pretty sure I had it at the end of March (having my antibody test tomorrow so should know for sure soon)

strugglingwithdeciding · 18/06/2020 03:24

Never have

Mothership4two · 18/06/2020 03:33

A friend's one year old grandson caught Gastroenteritis during lockdown and they have no idea where he picked it up from. No-one else in the house was affected. So, guess you can't be too csreful

Oblomov20 · 18/06/2020 03:56

Never was.

custardbear · 18/06/2020 05:52

Tobee- if it's published then it's probably based on other coronaviruses with a similar packaging I'd expect

Yes, I do. It's not a hassle really in the grand scheme of things - I also only go to relatively small shops still that only let 5-6 people in at a time and are well ventilated - my brother had Covid and it really wasn't pleasant so I'd rather avoid any risk, and do whatever I'm able to do to help reduce risk in my home

WhatsHappeningCaroleBaskin · 18/06/2020 06:06

I've never wiped them..

Ragwort · 18/06/2020 06:07

No never have.

silentpool · 18/06/2020 06:08

I've never done it.

makingmammaries · 18/06/2020 06:12

Never did. 7 people in this household and I am not going to wipe 100 tomatoes or 20 packs of cheese or the nooks and crannies of yoghurt multipacks. Sounds like OCD to me.

Raaaa · 18/06/2020 06:25

Never did, I'm getting bad at remembering to wash my hands when I get in from the shop aswell Blush

LiesHumansTellThemselves · 18/06/2020 06:29

Never did. No change in hygiene practices either.

I have been astonished that people need to be told to wash their hands and cover their sneezes/coughs etc.

My mum taught me that shit 40+ years ago!

Fingernails short, hands washed regularly, stay away from people when unwell and give people their space where at all possible. Who knew I was always ready for coronavirus?

Blondiney · 18/06/2020 06:30

I started doing it a week before lockdown and stopped about three weeks ago. The risk to my mental health was greater than my risk of catching Covid.

tiredanddangerous · 18/06/2020 06:30

No I never have. I recon it’s statistically extremely unlikely that anyone would catch coronavirus from their shopping. I’ve never seen any actual data on it.

SpeckledyHen · 18/06/2020 06:33

Never wiped . We don’t eat the packaging .

SoloMummy · 18/06/2020 06:36

An advisor was on TV yesterday - not the usual update thing - talking about infections thought to be caught via uncooked and frozen fish.
When asked about washing food etc, she said she still quarantines food for three days or washes.
Given that, I'm continuing. But I am shielding.

SoloMummy · 18/06/2020 06:37

@SpeckledyHen

Never wiped . We don’t eat the packaging .
No, but you touch the outside of the packaging, open it and touch the food inside, so it's being transferred if the virus is present.
WwMILd · 18/06/2020 06:44

Yes - I’ve turned it into a game now trying to beat previous weeks times Grin.

50 mins is my record, we have 1 supermarket delivery and 1 Gousto. Put music on, rope DD in as my runner.

Would rather not be doing it, but needs must as DH shielding.

Also doing bins, why does nobody ever mention bins?

SpeckledyHen · 18/06/2020 06:47

SoloMummy I work in the care sector and knew all about hand washing and sanitising properly long before C19 .

Itisbetter · 18/06/2020 06:50

If you know all about infection control why don’t you wipe things that have been handled by multiple people?

SeaOtterFluff · 18/06/2020 06:51

Never did. No high risk people in the house so maybe I'm more relaxed than some.

GoingtotheWinchester · 18/06/2020 06:53

Didn’t ever start and don’t intend to. Think this whole thing has massively played into people’s health anxieties and I worry about some of the irrational things my totally healthy friends are doing 😕

Fivefourthree · 18/06/2020 06:55

Never wiped down shopping here. Wash hands frequently though, and attempt to disinfectant surfaces and light switches /door handles daily. Also my phone.
When I thought about it all at the beginning I decided a person could send themselves insane trying to ponder all the ways cross infection could be happen/be prevented.
For instance a poster said they didn't ever wipe phone down as they only ever picked it up with clean hands, yet I think you could have a clean phone right up until it gets put on a non disinfected surface and you're back to square one. Etc etc. Felt like a slippery slope so I've relied on basic hygiene practices (a bit more thoroughly than I used to) and social distancing as best as I can, without being neurotic there either.
For me the biggest change has been the more thorough hand washing.

I haven’t been but do wash my hands after handling stuff being put away. After a few days I’m less concerned, but still wash my hands before I eat as I always have done. I agree with a previous poster that even if traces are on items especially as time goes on it likely might not be enough to cause issues. I haven’t ever stripped off either since being off work , but also have avoided crowded places ect so there wasn’t much need thankfully. If I had to visit a hospital or was back in work (a healthcare facility) I would though and I would shower also after shift, but again before the pandemic I did this as my job was in a high risk area for other contagious illnesses.
