Best ground coffee?

overweightcat · 16/06/2020 13:00

Making a hamper for DH for Father's Day. We've recently tried a small pot of ground coffee in a cafetière as opposed to our usual instant stuff we have for home and he really liked it. It was just Illy Classico.

I want to maybe get one or two types for the hamper for him/us to try next. He will be back at work soon and said he will be taking his own coffee from now on rather than buy it so I don't mind getting something nice. I saw a whittards hazelnut blend but not sure if it's any good.

Any recommendations or links?

I am yet to find a ground coffee that I like...

However, I have a few friends who rave about Nescafé Azera. That may be worth a try?

MothershipG · 16/06/2020 13:14

Lavazza Rosso
I always like the sound of flavoured coffee but every one I have tried has been rank.

Beagled · 16/06/2020 13:14

I like most of the taylors of Harrogate ones, they do a range of different ones.

Roseburn · 16/06/2020 13:15

We use Lavazza ( red and white packs)

I also like Arab coffee with cardamom. I buy Najjar classic

lidoshuffle · 16/06/2020 14:10

Probably not appropriate for a gift hamper OP, but Lidl's Gold ground coffee is the best quality to price one I've ever found.

Worth remembering for everyday drinking!

Lucked · 16/06/2020 14:14

I like Taylor’s of Harrogate lazy Sunday, I think they also make one with a similar name for M&S. I would get that one like that and a stronger blend one so he can see which he prefers

JustC · 16/06/2020 14:16

Lavazza Rosso is our poison. Also like Illy.

HeddaGarbled · 16/06/2020 14:19

Whittards is good but not the hazelnut blend IMO. I’d stick with normal coffee until you know what you like rather than experiment with added flavourings yet. Most of the supermarkets sell good stuff e.g. Tesco Finest have a good range.

Tittytittydoomdoom · 16/06/2020 14:22

Find a local roaster or order some freshly ground beans online, anything from a shop will be old and poor quality. If you’re going to step up the coffee wankery buy him a hand grinder!

GalwayGrowl · 16/06/2020 14:23

I love Taylor's Colombia cacao.

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 16/06/2020 14:30

Another vote for Taylor’s of Harrogate, my favourite is Lazy Sunday.

TerrorWig · 16/06/2020 14:44

My favourite is also Taylor’s Lazy Sunday. Also nice cold brewed!

iamthedanger · 16/06/2020 14:45

Lavazza

SilverOtter · 16/06/2020 14:48

Lavazza is my everyday coffee, Whittards for a treat (the one with an elephant on the packet is particularly nice).

queenMab99 · 16/06/2020 14:49

Lidl Columbian Gold is very reasonable and the best coffee I have tasted.

okiedokieme · 16/06/2020 14:50

I like the Aldi French blend ground - more than some that costs many times the price

montueswedthursfrisatsunday · 16/06/2020 14:52

The real coffee bag company are good but probably too late to order for Sunday now

ProperVexed · 16/06/2020 14:58

I'm partial to Sainsbury’s Italian blend. Whittards used to do one called Guatemalan Elephant which was lovely. I don't know if they still do.

SadSisters · 16/06/2020 15:03

Another vote for Lavazza, it’s my favourite ground coffee.

Gerbi1 · 16/06/2020 15:05

Lavazza or illy

Lyricallie · 16/06/2020 15:07

If it's from Tesco we go Taylor's lazy Sunday if it's from online we've recently been buying Roaring Stag from Aviemore. Not sure if they just do the beans though as we usually grind ours.

qwertyuiop098 · 16/06/2020 15:11

Monmouth coffee company is the best, you can order online or buy in a deli!

ElsieMc · 16/06/2020 15:12

M and S Italian Ground Coffee (4) is really nice and cheaper than Taylors but nicer I think.

I also second Lavazza. Also the Finest ranges from the supermarkets are pretty good as well. I find all these to be absolutely fine and all smell lovely.

Lostinbooksandcoffee · 16/06/2020 15:13

Another vote for Taylor's of Harrogate!
I also like some Lidl's one if I can't get to Tesco. I think it's the Columbian (black and red packaging) but could be mistaken.

I keep meaning to try some from online stockists but have yet to get around to it.
