Why are ASDA normalising paedophilia and Child Abuse?

Sunkisses · 16/06/2020 08:02

Is it OK for ASDA to send parents emails linking to an organisation that normalises paedophilia with red flag phrases such as "love has no age", and recommending books for children that contain explicit descriptions of child sex abuse? Why are they doing this? Are ASDA experts in home schooling and safeguarding? More details in this excellent thread by Safe Schools Alliance: twitter.com/SafeSchools_UK/status/1272638132589035520

I'm a parent and think the pack is fantastic. Can you be precise and specific - which part of the Diversity Role Models pack do you believe fails to safeguard children?

FromMarch2020 · 16/06/2020 10:34

I just want supermarkets to sell goods NOT to produce stuff like this.

I have emailed by disgust as others have.

IrmaFayLear · 16/06/2020 10:35

It seems disturbing that people with a vested interest are getting jobs in places of influence.

It used to be that the Scouts and Choirs were magnets for predators but now it seems marketing and publishing are the choice hideouts.

Thisisworsethananticpated · 16/06/2020 10:35

Thisisworsethananticipated why do you think this was a fuck up ? I think it was absolutely intentional

Once the DM pick up on Asda doing this
Which the surely will ! Heads will roll

I bloody hope so anyway

@JackiFazaki - the links are posted earlier in the thread but here they are again:

Ninkanink · 16/06/2020 10:38

@IrmaFayLear

Read up on Girl Guides and their current policy on transgender (quick version: any boy who feels like a girl can join, any man who feels like a woman can be a ‘leader’ (or whatever they’re called, I’m not familiar). They will be treated exactly like children or adults of the opposite sex, without any special measures, and Girl Guides have stated they see absolutely no safeguarding issues. Parents will not be told if their daughters will be placed with males.

JackiFazaki · 16/06/2020 10:39

Thanks Clymene, I was getting so angry, I couldn't see them.

justanotherneighinparadise · 16/06/2020 10:40

The important part that we can play is to keep repeating the message. I am just an ordinary person who can see what’s happening and am fucking angry.

Cam77 · 16/06/2020 10:41

Christ. Why leave education in the hands of parents and teachers when a multinational food corporation is willing to step in?

Clymene · 16/06/2020 10:41

We are at a point where many councils have withdrawn their questionable guidance following pressure from Safe Schools Alliance and concerned parents.

Asda have misjudged public sentiment very badly here

Ninkanink · 16/06/2020 10:43

Yes, I know exactly where my line is. And I will not be moved.

I see you. Hundreds of thousands of us see you. And more will see you now.

IrmaFayLear · 16/06/2020 10:45

I think companies should be very, very careful about who they employ in these positions.

It’s astonishing, really. When I was a school governor it was all Safeguarding, Safeguarding, Safeguarding. And quite rightly too. Now it seems that “safeguarding” is soooo the last few decades and even worse a sure sign of bigotry.

AntsInPenzance · 16/06/2020 10:45

Can anyone provide a link to Diversity Role Models using Love has no age limit as a slogan as I can't find any links where they've used that phrase. Certainly that phrase doesn't appear anywhere on their website that I can see.

Closest they come is 'Love has no labels'.

LadyFlumpalot · 16/06/2020 10:46

Has this gone out to schools to include in the home learning packs?

JackiFazaki · 16/06/2020 10:46

Have donated to those links Ninkanink. Great work, sadly needed,

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/06/2020 10:47

It took a lot of pressure to get Warwickshire CC to take down their dodgy Respect Yourself/All About Me materials for schools.

magicmallow · 16/06/2020 10:48

This is very disturbing. Unless asda show humility, an apology and remove this they will not be counting on my custom any more.

StripesWaterBlue · 16/06/2020 10:49

Closest they come is 'Love has no labels'.
Ha! What boleaux.

They have a whole exercise in the primary pack for 7 year olds on labelling same sex attraction and attraction between men and women being born into the wrong body etc. etc..

Wolf in sheep's clothing Asda.

WhenDoISleep · 16/06/2020 10:50

The Beyond Magenta book was being promoted by CILIP School Libraries Group last week (it came up in a feed from my son's new secondary school).

TerrorWig · 16/06/2020 10:52

I got this email yesterday and read through the links but clearly missed the ‘love has no age message’. I admit I didn’t look at the books either. I knew there was something in there not quite right.

Incidentally - when I think ‘diversity models’ I think of models in a wheelchair, or with any other visible condition that makes them more ‘diverse’ from a white able bodied model. Not a lesbian who is still a white able bodied model!

Definitely an agenda...

Michelleoftheresistance · 16/06/2020 10:54

Is anyone on Twitter who can @ this to newspapers and journalists?

StripesWaterBlue · 16/06/2020 10:54

I agree with Sir Paul Beresford in the BBC article posted above

Outlaw possession of written accounts of child abuse says MP

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-19574487

That's very concerning about CILIP sharing a link to The Beyond Magenta book.

Especially disturbing just as we are finding out about Europe wide child abuse rings, which are also possibly connected to the disappearance of Madeleine McMcann.

PurpleButterflyAway · 16/06/2020 10:56

This is disgusting and abhorrent on so many levels. ASDA have no right whatsoever to be getting involved in anything like this. They’re a damn supermarket, and one I sure as hell won’t be using again.
