About lockdown weight gain

Leanandmean31 · 15/06/2020 09:43

So I was talking to a friend on Zoom and she told me that she has gained a stone and a half during lockdown. I was shocked when I then spoke to other friends and heard the same thing and that I am one of the only ones I know who hasn’t gained weight and used lockdown as an excuse to eat what I like. I am worried about the NHS burden as there are so many patients who have had their treatment delayed due to Covid and the last thing we need is more health issues caused by obesity.
AIBU to think that people should be more responsible? Btw before anyone flames me I am not talking about people who have had a very stressful job during lockdown. My friend said her DH has discovered a love for baking so she has just been sitting there eating bread and butter for 2 months.

@Leanandmean31 I have been super skinny and a running freak for years. Now hit menopause and got a nasty injury and the weight is piling on. A little bit per month.....despite trying my very hardest to eat well and exercise. Luckily I am not a smug superior annoying type person who blames others for weight gain so I still appear to have some friends.....phew...

fedupwithcookingfromscratch · 16/06/2020 17:34

YABU - everyone is getting through this in their own way. Far better to gain weight by eating home cooked food with her DH than smash the baking tins over his head in frustration. I've been doing loads of cooking - all the complicated recipes I would never normally have the time or energy to do - and we've been eating well as a result!

SpokeTooSoon · 16/06/2020 17:37

When my DC returned to school last week, I was hoping to see parents had gained a few ounces - nothing! The mums all sprinted back in their leggings and tank tops looking as lithe and toned as ever. Grin

Good for them I guess. I’m only jealous!!

fedupwithcookingfromscratch · 16/06/2020 17:42

@spoketoosoon - they are wearing stretchy clothes for a reason!

Shell4429 · 16/06/2020 17:45

@leanmean31 you seem rather obsessed by the issue of weight. We have just been through and still are going through the scariest world event in our lives and you’re worried about people gaining weight? Quite apart from the fear of getting Covid, anxiety about an unprecedented change to life, causing comfort eating, the gyms are all shut! FFS

Nanajadus · 16/06/2020 17:49

I think you will be more of a burden on the NHS with your mental health issues.
I'm a personal trainer and I've put 7lbs + on.

EerieSilence · 16/06/2020 17:51

@Leanandmean31 - do you want a medal? You have it.
Everybody copes with stress in their own way. Let go.

Mummadeeze · 16/06/2020 17:52

I have put on a stone and I haven’t been binge eating or eating abnormally. I have been eating the same as usual but not exercising quite as much as my natural daily routine before involved at least 12,000 steps and I was going to the gym on top of that. I am completely gutted that I have put on all that weight as I am pre-disposed to putting on weight easily and I try really hard to maintain being a size 14 (which is slim compared to my parents who are both obese). I started a restricted vegan shake diet yesterday to try and get some of the weight gain off as I don’t want it to escalate but it is very unfair to base your judgement on your experience and not see that maintaining weight is extremely hard for some people, especially approaching menopause as I am. Making out like we have been gorging on bread and butter (which I would never even touch because I worry So much about weight gain) is completely removed from reality for me.

Carpedimum · 16/06/2020 17:52

Sanctimonious or what OP?! I’m astonished that you’ve got friends to judge or are they really just acquaintances that you’ve chosen to measure yourself positively against? YABVU

claireyjs · 16/06/2020 17:54

I've actually lost 16lbs...does that make me a better person than you? Errr... no! Stop being so mean, people deal with things in different ways and you dont know what they're going through. I decided to use this time to take stock and move forward with some much needed weight loss but that doesn't make me better or worse than anyone else..

Scoobydoobydo · 16/06/2020 17:54

So rude!
Some of us have had to work from home and with a family to care for have been unable to get the usual exercise....we don’t all sit at home eating lard sandwiches yunno!!!

Mia1415 · 16/06/2020 17:57

I've put on about a stone during lockdown. I'm eating too much and drinking too much. I'm incredibly stressed and unhappy. Judge away!

DanceItOut · 16/06/2020 18:00

I live in a flat and even though I’ve been doing more actual exercise like workouts than I would have done before lockdown I’ve still been moving less because usually I would walk the kids to school then walk myself to the university then walk back to the school then back home every week day which adds up to over 18,000 steps. Instead I have been stuck in a flat with two kids and my husband has left us so I’ve probably eaten a little more than usual because I’ve been bored of these same walls and stressed about relationships parenting homeschooling and money. I’ve gained a stone. Don’t worry I’m already sufficiently disgusted with my appearance to the point where I spent nearly an hour hiding in the bathroom crying yesterday so you don’t need to tell me how lazy I am or how terrible it is that I’ve used lockdown as an excuse to eat whatever I want.

Mumcicle · 16/06/2020 18:04

I actually lost 10lbs. Please don’t hate me. Grin

divafever99 · 16/06/2020 18:05

I've gained weight, no idea how much but my jeans feel a little snug! But I've had a very stressful time, I'm a nurse who has looked after covid patients. I've been physically and mentally exhausted a lot so we have had more take aways than we should. But I'm not really bothered about a few pounds gain, will just be grateful if I come out of this alive, I can loose the weight.

YouSayWhat · 16/06/2020 18:06

Joe Wicks has decided that after 3 months he wants a lie in. Good for him. Please trot off and hoist your judgeypants in his direction OP.

Nanajadus · 16/06/2020 18:07

Well done you.

Chantae18 · 16/06/2020 18:08

I have definitely put on weight during this lockdown and so have many of my friends and family. I think it’s mainly down to being less active (not travelling and not being at work /not being out and about) along with comfort eating and having constant access to food in the house. I’m sure most of us will lose the weight that we have gained :-)

Idontcareboutthestateofmyhair · 16/06/2020 18:10

I have also put on weight (at least a stone) during lockdown through eating more, drinking more alcohol, and as I'm working from home I am in all day (usually commute on several trains/walk) so this has impacted. Found it hard as I usually online food shop and couldn't get slots so my eating habits have been all over the place. And dyou know what? I couldn't give a shit. Pretty sure I'll lose it when things go back to normal and if I don't hey-ho.. I'm alive and many people aren't after this terrible virus. How patronising and sanctimonious to say we will be the new burden on the NHS! Putting on a stone or two doesn't make most people obese. I know women like you in all forms of life.. superior and judgy. Have a fkn cream cake, it'll put a smile on your face instead of worrying about other womens weight. It's none of your business! Nousernamehistory · 16/06/2020 18:13

I am sorry for offending anyone.

Hahaha

@Leanandmean31, what's it's like shitting on people from way up there on your acceptably slim high horse?

Loki1983 · 16/06/2020 18:21

Oh well you’ve given me a good laugh. Talk about self-glorification. I’ve put on that much with just the wine I’ve drank. Show off.

mortforya · 16/06/2020 18:24

Will u shut up and get off that high horse, there is no burden going to be on the NHS because some of us have eaten a few cakes, go way and get a life for yourself, you sound as exciting as a brush 🙄🙄

Champagne999 · 16/06/2020 18:26

Wow, Lean, and Mean. You're so inspirational. I just don't know how you manage so much self-control, restraint and serenity. Best not come too close to me though - I might eat you.

Meeeh · 16/06/2020 18:30

Surely this has to be a FAKE post for clicks and traffic 😂 Either way, OP is a twunt....

asnugglysnerd · 16/06/2020 18:33

Stop being so judgemental.

People have dealt with lockdown in different ways, some may have put on some weight.

I have lost 30lbs over the course of lockdown as I was scared by the statistics affecting obese people. It gave me a kick up the arse to do something about my weight for some reason, despite the threats to health obesity causes aside from Covid-19.

But I’m not going to sit and judge anyone for putting weight on. Or losing it. Or maintaining. Or taking up running. Or spending 5 out of 7 days in their pyjamas.
