Yes we can book hair appointments, nail appointments and banish the roots in a matter of weeks. We can shop today!! We are counting down the days to hotels, restaurants and bars opening. We are breaking out.

We have turned a corner in England people!!

The lockdown is ending at long last - so what are you doing today?

Valkadin · 15/06/2020 09:25

I have never shopped for leisure in my life so no change here. Last time I did some shopping that was not just food shopping was last July when I needed new outfits for a wedding I was attending. I needed three as culturally that’s how long the wedding lasted. So I look like I’m a retailers nightmare as shop as little as possible but the items I buy are reasonably expensive.

NeedToKnow101 · 15/06/2020 09:25

Staying at home and working, will go for a walk in the park later. Might meet a friend in the park to drink wine. Haven't missed going in shops really, have ordered what I need online over lockdown.

Strugglingtodomybest · 15/06/2020 09:26

I'm popping into town later to pick up my new glasses that I ordered last week. I'm quite excited, as these will be my first pair of varifocals and my eyesight has been doing my head in for months.

I won't be shopping though, mainly because I hate shopping! You have a great day out though OP Grin

heartsonacake · 15/06/2020 09:26

Wherever you’re going, there will be massive queues. And I’d be very surprised if they’ll physically measure your kids feet considering shops are not allowing anyone to try clothes/shoes on.

FatalSecrets · 15/06/2020 09:26

Thank goodness a man is here to make sweeping assumptions and tell us all how he has done it right Grin

Plus ca change.

pigeon999 · 15/06/2020 09:26

tree I hope your shops and dare I even mutter it beer gardens very soon. I suggest you see what fits before the morning of your adventure! I am finding out that those lockdown biscuits and wine may have taken their toll somewhat!

But you know what my waist line is just a casualty along with many other things, and if we don't snap out of this lockdown soon there won't be any zoos, shops, restaurants to go to!!

So I respect those that wish to, or have to stay at home, but I am healthy and youngish (not that you would ever guess to look at me now!) I can and should go out and live my life again. I have done my lockdown bit. I really have, but now it is summer and it is fleeting, I intend to make the very best of what is now open.

Yawn. I’d say 0/10 but actually you do seem to have goaded a lot of people into arguing with you. Enjoy your day.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 15/06/2020 09:27

I swear some people won't be happy unless everyone is sitting around in hair shirts
"People are still dying"
Yeah shame no one seems to give a shit about those dying of stroke, heart attacks and cancer
Stay the fuck home eh?
Shame no one cares about those murdered and abused in lockdown due to DV.
Shame about people going blind because they've been terrified into avoiding going to hospital for their essential treatments
Shame about those that have committed suicide because their homes and businesses have been lost due to the lockdown
But hey if it's not COVID it doesn't count

Drivingdownthe101 · 15/06/2020 09:27

Yes they will.

DomDoesWotHeWants · 15/06/2020 09:27

Hair and nails aren't allowed until next week.

Sandybval · 15/06/2020 09:28

Almost every store I research is also not back so was just wondering where people who are going shopping are planning on going as it seems to still be a very limited offer out there!

All of the independent shops here are reopening today, after struggling to keep afloat by putting ridiculous hours in doing home deliveries etc, I don't blame them (there are no chain stores in town). Plus the big names at the retail park, everything within a 5 mile radius is open.

LaurieMarlow · 15/06/2020 09:28

But hey if it's not COVID it doesn't count

That seems to sum it up, yes.

Ooopsijustsnarted · 15/06/2020 09:28

Have a great day @pigeon999, we went to Matalan last weekend, and it was lovely to feel a tiny bit of normailty in a strange time.

Just a small thing- I don't know if shoe shops are letting people try on.
I know our local one is but then the shoes are having to be put away for 72hrs if not bought.
So if they haven't got the space to house loads of tried on shoes they might not let it happen 😀

Elsa8 · 15/06/2020 09:28

Staying at home, working and looking after my kids! My Mum (who lives alone) is coming over for the first time in over three months.

It’ll be a while before I go to the shops properly, I want to be certain that cases are dropping first before our family starts trying to get back to normal.

Aridane · 15/06/2020 09:29

WHAT?!. the haidressers areopen

knittingaddict · 15/06/2020 09:29

Day 4 of 14 day isolation.

Decorating the hall.

Even if we weren't in isolation I would only be going to shops for the things I need and absolutely can't get online.

PhoneLock · 15/06/2020 09:29

I'm working all week but I have no interest in going shopping for the sake of it.

Babyboomtastic · 15/06/2020 09:29

Shopping also sounds like a miserable experience at the moment.

No shopping with people outside your household.
Some places not letting kids in
No trying on clothes.
Queues and one in one out policy.
Having to use hand sanitizer by the tills etc.

It's not going to be the usual browsing experience and more than a supermarket trip is as it was. It's ok for stuff you really need, but it's functional rather than a leisure activity at the moment.

Sandybval · 15/06/2020 09:30

But hey if it's not COVID it doesn't count

That's because the government will be held accountable eventually for covid deaths, but those who have died directly due to lockdown etc will just be statistics, unfortunately. So they're not arsed basically.

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/06/2020 09:31

Sleep, just finished 2 night shifts.

MorrisZapp · 15/06/2020 09:32

Oh god mumsnet is hilarious. I've never met so many people who always hated shopping and have no intention of ever shopping again.

OP, start a thread titled 'oh god I hate shopping. How could anyone possibly enjoy such a tedious and superficial pastime?' and that will bring all the shopping lovers out.

People just want a ruck.

Littlemeadow123 · 15/06/2020 09:33

It's great that lockdown is lifting but we still need to be careful when we are out and about otherwise we'll end up with a second lockdown.

pigeon999 · 15/06/2020 09:33

crowded have a great day at the NT garden. We went to our local one this weekend with a picnic, I have seen so many happy kids running around. Or contented parents as their children rolled down the hills for the first time in months.

I make no apology for wanting the best for my children, and today that means new shoes, ice cream and a airing in a place that is not straight out of a dystopian movie.

OP posts:
MorrisZapp · 15/06/2020 09:34

By the way, my local large supermarkets have all allowed browsing, touching clothes, trying on shoes etc with no quarantining of goods or compelled hygiene measures throughout lockdown.

I've bought tons of stuff. I'll make sure my affairs are in order.

Hopingtobeamum · 15/06/2020 09:34

Staying at home, working and walking my dog. I may walk up to the high street and have a look at the social distancing measures they've put in place. A large part of our business is going back to work today so I'll be mainly occupied with that too.
Oh and constantly saying FFS about all the knobheads who are moaning about social distancing measures the council have put in place, despite the fact they have to do this as it's what the government have told them to do.
Seriously some days I do wonder 'which one of you has the shared brain cell today'?
