Yes we can book hair appointments, nail appointments and banish the roots in a matter of weeks. We can shop today!! We are counting down the days to hotels, restaurants and bars opening. We are breaking out.

We have turned a corner in England people!!

The lockdown is ending at long last - so what are you doing today?

I'm walking up to our little high street which has been decked out with bunting and going to say hello to my favourite bookshop with my list of books that I haven't bought from Amazon whilst it has been closed. ( for the sake of truthfulness I have bought plenty of other stuff from them during lockdown)

Drivingdownthe101 · 15/06/2020 09:18

Enjoy OP!
My 2 older children are both back at school today (woo!), and id love a browse round the shops but as I have a 17 month old ‘filthy disease vector’ I can’t cope with the tutting and raised eyebrows I’d get for letting a child be both seen and heard in public.

LaurieMarlow · 15/06/2020 09:18

As long as my heart is still beating I will be making the best of my life.

Absolutely. The self flagellation won’t get anyone anywhere. You’re not breaking any guidelines.

And we need those who are willing and able to support the economy. I don’t know where people think funding for the NHS actually comes from.

glueandstick · 15/06/2020 09:20

And coffee. We’re going to our Indy coffee shop and buying twice as many coffees as we need to support them.

Dementedswan · 15/06/2020 09:20

Enjoy your shopping trip op!

I'm not rushing out to the shops, Dh is working from home, my primary kids are not in school so will just be same as every other day has been.

However, tomorrow we have an appointment at Clark's as the DC dont have a single pair of shoes that fit. The fitter will be wearing ppe and we will wear masks too. I'm not looking forward to it and will be in and out as quickly as possible.

pigeon999 · 15/06/2020 09:20

I have music back on my house, I am singing - windows are open and wailing away like the cats choir. Who needs anymore doom and gloom. For the sake of good MH we need to break free.

OhMsBeliever · 15/06/2020 09:20

I'm not working or shielding but I'll be staying at home. Queueing up at Tesco once a week is enough for me, I can't be doing with doing it at every shop in the local mall too. Tesco sells almost everything I need anyway.

I do need to make an appointment for an eye test though as my eye sight has got worse recently.

TreeTopTim · 15/06/2020 09:21

Im in Scotland so no shops reopening.

@pigeon999 I completely understand where you are coming from. It's been a long few months and I long for some normality for the sake of my mental health.
Just wish I had money to spend at the shops. I seem to be one of the few people who hasn't managed to save piles of money during lockdown. I have just about had enough money to pay the bills.

Sandybval · 15/06/2020 09:21

This is so I know if I am still at risk for the coming waves. The shopping frenzy is just one of many examples which show it (almost certainly) is just a question of time

I can never tell if posts like this are serious?

PumpkinPie2016 · 15/06/2020 09:21

So far, I have been out for a run and taken Y1 DS to school - his first day back.

Working from home now for the rest of the day. I am in work tomorrow.

I generally shop online anyway so probably won't have any need to venture to the shops.for a while.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 15/06/2020 09:22

The virus is still out there
No shit Sherlock
As are plenty of other viruses
What do you suggest? Lockdown till it goes away?
Cracking
There won't be a health system left by then due to no one paying any taxes by hey that pesky virus will have gone

LaureBerthaud · 15/06/2020 09:22

@EatsShootsAndRuns - it's nothing short of disgraceful the way the NHS has abandoned huge numbers of patients. However, the economy needs to start moving again to fund the NHS. I hope you are seen soon and all goes well.

OhMsBeliever · 15/06/2020 09:22

And it's not that I'm miserable and believe we're all doomed, it's just that I really really hate queuing. And people.

I'll wait till things are back to normal and I can dash in shops quickly!

GinDaddyRedux · 15/06/2020 09:22

The miserable joy thieves on this thread reminds me of why I married a North American lady.

What is it with our country... the minute someone expresses happiness in their good fortune, everyone piles in to explain to the OP just how much they are suffering and that the OP is inconsiderate, feckless or strange.

If you're staying in sewing PPE? God bless you and your work to help us. The OP isn't doing that, her thread is about shopping. Good on her for wanting to spend money in the economy. Both activities are needed. You don't need to tell her to go f herself. You don't hold the righteous moral ground, anymore than the "I'm working same as I have since the virus" crew do, or the unfortunate person waiting for the biopsy etc...

If you're suffering, I feel for you. But don't piss on OP's chips just because it didn't happen for you.

FatalSecrets · 15/06/2020 09:23

I absolutely agree, but I think its important to have had that mindset all the way through. I don't understand why music is dependant on shops being open?

CrowdedHouseinQuarantine · 15/06/2020 09:23

Going to a national trust garden!

tillyandmilly · 15/06/2020 09:23

the virus hasn't gone away! - people still getting sick - some poor people dying - we are not out of lockdown!

SanFrancisco49er · 15/06/2020 09:24

@00100001 thank you for replying :)
I used to work in retail and so have a lot of friends who still do (across different companies) and none of them are back today.
Almost every store I research is also not back so was just wondering where people who are going shopping are planning on going as it seems to still be a very limited offer out there!

Hoppinggreen · 15/06/2020 09:24

Although I don’t condemn other people for their choices I think it’s far too soon to be safe so I won’t be doing anything differently.
Nails, hair, going to Primark etc don’t seem very important at the moment

bendmeoverbackwards · 15/06/2020 09:24

It doesn't feel any different today to any other day.

I'm going to see how the R rate changes over the coming weeks before I go shopping.

Anyway shopping now sounds completely joyless what with the queues, being vigilant to observe SD, not touching things, no trying things on.

Besides I've been going mad online shopping, hasn't everyone else?! No money left now!

Rhubarbcrumblerules · 15/06/2020 09:24

I won't be able to go shopping for long until public and shop toilets are open

Aridane · 15/06/2020 09:24

The lockdown is ending at long last - so what are you doing today?

Working - like every other fucking day in lockdown Hmm

showmewhatyougot · 15/06/2020 09:25

I'm staying home and keeping safe, I imagine all the people out and about quint for hours to g errrr cheap primark socks will be the same idiots who flocked the beaches. Nty

MrsBobDylan · 15/06/2020 09:25

I will be working harder than ever because lockdown meant I finally had the time and head space to start my own business.

We are shielding my eldest son so I wouldn't alter anything anyway, but I have wanted to be my own boss for 20 years. Poor DH is working from home and then helps me at weekends.

The kids are starting to raise themselves and doing a very good job of it 😂

lynsey91 · 15/06/2020 09:25

I hardly ever went to the shops before lockdown so won't be rushing to them any time soon.

I really cannot be bothered to queue and don't want to wear a mask so won't bother until things are back to normal or pretty much normal.

I am going to a wildlife park this week though and am looking forward to that.
