Yes we can book hair appointments, nail appointments and banish the roots in a matter of weeks. We can shop today!! We are counting down the days to hotels, restaurants and bars opening. We are breaking out.

We have turned a corner in England people!!

The lockdown is ending at long last - so what are you doing today?

There, fixed that for you.

HowFastIsTooFast · 15/06/2020 12:27

Where I am our non-essential shops opened a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't been into town aside from one trip to the pharmacy back in April. I'm WFH on a vastly reduced salary (so no money to buy anything anyway) and the last 3 months have proved just how little I've missed shopping and just how little we actually need when it really comes down it. I can't see myself shopping for leisure again anytime soon. I'll go to town if I'm desperately in need of something, otherwise I'm just fine as I am Thanks.

@runrunrunrunt

So are SARS, and MERS, and ebola. It's reasonably probable that Covid-19 will be "out there" for the rest of all our lives. What then? Cower at home forever? We're all dying; some of us want to live first.

@HauntedGoatFart wins the prize for the stupidest comment so far 👏🏻

why?

What will you do if there is NEVER a vaccine for Covid-19.... hide inside the rest of your life, while others go to work? who's going to pay your rent/mortgage? who's paying for your food? Where are you going to get money from to pay for electricity (That people have to take the risk,to go to work, so you can sit on your device feeling smug about how safe you are)

Drivingdownthe101 · 15/06/2020 12:28

I cant understand why all those people are queuing to get into Primark

Because their kids have grown in the past 3 months and primark is all they can afford?

wink1970 · 15/06/2020 12:29

Happy Shopping OP

I went to Bluewater on Friday, before it fully opened (to M&S Food and Boots) and it was eerily quiet. There's a 1-way system in place and masked guides stood everywhere. I hope it flourishes, socially distanced of course, as 1000s of people are employed there.

Likewise my local high street, which is 100% independents. I shall pop down later this week and buy a few things I don't really need, to spread the cash.

Mamamia87 · 15/06/2020 12:30

@runrunrunrunt erm no, thought she was spot on actually, reflects how a lot of us are feeling. Here, you can have some of these 👏🏻 for being the very best at missing the point.

onanotherday · 15/06/2020 12:30

Each to there own. However, the way this government have dealt with things I will make my own judgements. Statistics can be manipulated.

Will give it a bit of time still.

mumwon · 15/06/2020 12:30

@pigeon999 because dh is extra vulnerable we buy birthday (etc) cards & send them via moonpig (especially good for sending overseas at Christmas when you have missed post date - you can send them from there via their post! done this for years)
shoes for your dd I really understand - but if you could leave it a day I would & miss the worst of the queues

countrygirl99 · 15/06/2020 12:30

run what is stupid about hauntedgoatfarts comment. Are you saying those diseases don't exist anymore or that they don't kill people?

SeaOtterFluff · 15/06/2020 12:32

I'm working today, otherwise I'd be taking DD into town so she can treat herself to a few bits. During lockdown she's turned 16, missed prom and a proper ending to her time at school after working so incredibly hard throughout yr11. She's been an absolute star and hasn't complained once so I'll take her on Saturday instead.

I'm confused by some of the venom on here. People are aware that shopping isn't compulsory, I hope? If you don't feel it's safe, don't go.

cardibach · 15/06/2020 12:32

I imagine she’s suggesting none of them are at large in the English population. Covid is...
RedCatBlueCat · 15/06/2020 12:33

@Nousernameforme DS was had glasses stuck together with superglue for the past month, but we wanted to wait for a eye test, as he's creeping closer the the screen.
Walked past a independent optician this morning on my way back from school, and had a chat as their door was open. As his eye test is due and the glasses are damaged, they will have him in, tested his eyes, and for new glasses ordered. Worth talking to an independent if its needed rather than wanted.

For those of you wanting to go shopping, shop safe and enjoy. Personally, I want to see my Mum. Still trying to work out where we could meet half way with toilets open or be able to stay overnight.

Alsohuman · 15/06/2020 12:35

I have a hair appointment on 13 July which will be my first excursion into the land of non essential. I love shopping but can’t see any pleasure in it in the parody that shops will be right now. The entire point of bricks and mortar is being able to touch the merchandise.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 15/06/2020 12:37

Also, all the posters with mates in the NHS telling them to stay home, it's too dangerous out....when we came out of sports direct the queue was horrendous. Most people wearing NHS badges as they are offering 50 percent off for NHS. So either...

A - I call bullshit
B - Your mates stitched you up to shorten their queue 😁

Hmmmmm

diked · 15/06/2020 12:38

i'll be going for a walk, we decided to stay in the cautious side for the next 2-3 weeks and then hopefully get some normality back and even go on holiday in august all
being well.

however if i've learned anything these past 3 months it's that i want us to be a lot more active as a family. i used to spend weekends shopping (food clothes etc) and going our for lunches with friends but i want us to be so much more present at home and with the kids, like we have been recently.

im really surprised that i haven't actually missed the shops at all and have managed to get everything online for the kids ( Zara sale is on!) and one thing that j will continue is online buying, especially for food because its not something that i was ever into.

so for us, for the next few weeks no major changes but we are enjoying life :) it has been both stressful and amazing these last 3 months.

enjoy shopping today! Smile

Staying at home because I'm shielding. If we've turned a corner and lockdown is ending why are the shielded not included? Maybe because it's not quite as "ended" as you'd like to believe?
steppemum · 15/06/2020 12:42

lockdown is NOT ending.

My kids are not at school. My year 10 and year 12 will each get 4 mornigns in school before th summer holidays.

FOUR MORNINGS

I am a teacher. I thinkt he teaching unions and the government have thrown our kids under a bus.

Until the schools open, we are in lockdown. Furious at the pictures of hundreds cramming in to Primark.
Schools should be a priority over clothes.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 15/06/2020 12:43

@PopsicleHustler thank you x
Chocolate....definitely.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 15/06/2020 12:46

I love in Scotland so still in lockdown.

ohtheholidays · 15/06/2020 12:47

Having a kfc for lunch and later I think we'll go for a nice walk and feed the ducks.

I'm leaving our local town for another week or 2 because I imagine that it will look like it does at Christmas

understandmenow · 15/06/2020 12:48

So you're angry that children have gone back and you're angry that they're not going back?

RhubarbJelly · 15/06/2020 12:52

Staying at home, educating children. Likely to lose our main income so definitely no shopping - absolute basics here only.

MaudLyn · 15/06/2020 12:54

Staying home for at least a few more weeks

ultrababy · 15/06/2020 12:54

I cannot believe someone has actually posted 'comforting. My DH who's father died yesterday' I mean come on, the OP was clearly upbeat and this thread is full of fucking fun sponges.
Enjoy your shopping OP 😀

NowImLivinInExeter · 15/06/2020 12:54

You aren't allowed to enjoy anything or be optimistic OP, didn't you know?
