Yes we can book hair appointments, nail appointments and banish the roots in a matter of weeks. We can shop today!! We are counting down the days to hotels, restaurants and bars opening. We are breaking out.

We have turned a corner in England people!!

The lockdown is ending at long last - so what are you doing today?

nothing-its not over yhet and im not queuing round the block to go to a shop

primark had people queing overnight its not necessary

TheGreatWave · 15/06/2020 10:51

OP Enjoy. Hope you get shoes sorted.

I do want to go shopping but it just sounds all a bit rubbish at the moment, so I won't be. I will venture out and some point, just not yet. The rules, queues, lack of toilets and benches and now (locally) temperature radar things just seems to suck out any joy and make it completely stressful.

I have had quite a few emails from retailers, some seem to be opening all stores, others in phases.

bubbleup · 15/06/2020 10:52

When did I call OP an arsehole for going to the shop? It's her attitude not her shopping that raised the hackles slightly 🤷🏽‍♀️

Unfortunately the retailers I've been involved with are aware that they are asking people who believe the risks of catching/spreading the virus are zero to queue/wait/respect distance/pay by card etc.

The staff in the shopping centre I'm involved with have been spat at, called names (along the lines of dementor actually although not that word), assaulted and forced into situations where they can not maintain the distance they'd like. The retailers opening today alongside them are understandably not looking forward to the first few days.

But go ahead, you dismiss their concerns because you've shock horror got friends in retail. Who hasn't? Confused I was responding to your latest "You do realise" to explain exactly how I realise 🙄

Ullupullu · 15/06/2020 10:52

Posts like this are so irresponsible if you are in the UK. Lockdown is NOT ending! We are supposed to be maintaining social distance. FFS.

countrygirl99 · 15/06/2020 10:52

I won't be going shopping but only because what I desperately need is a new bra and so I'll struggle on until I can try them on. I'm working so I would still have to wait until Saturday anyway. I now understand the benefit of having a drawerful of the expensive barstard things instead of my usual 3.

Aridane · 15/06/2020 10:53

Burn me at the stake why don't ya!

Nah - just bored by the ‘too cool for school’ attitude. Some of us have just quietly been going to all the non essential shops and cafes discreetly open during lockdown without a huge fanfare 🎺

SAme as I've been doing for weeks - staying home and sewing PPE for hospital staff and carers because you may think it's all over but the virus has other plans.

Yes, you're quite right - clearly the only sensible thing to do is for everyone to stay quietly at home indefinitely. We'll all die sooner, and miserably. And without medical care, because we can no longer pay doctors or buy drugs. But we won't have died of Covid, and that's the important thing.

jeez, you talk like we've had a lockdown for a year not a few months 🙄

Popc0rn · 15/06/2020 10:54

Day off today so going to visit my friend in their garden, picking up an exercise bike from Argos (finally found one in stock!!), go for a walk, cook a roast - I work shifts so today is my Sunday.

Nothing could convince me to go shopping on the high street today. I hate queuing, crowds, and lack of toilet facilities at the best of times. I work on a covid ward atm, so wouldn't be worried about catching "it" while shopping, but would be worried about potentially spreading "it" - probably a very low risk of that though, but rather not take the chance.

Jojobythesea · 15/06/2020 10:54

@pigeon999 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I have no intention of going shopping and am wfh as I have been from the start but I LOVE your positivity and can't wait for things to get back to some sort of normality. My year 10 DS went into school today for the first time since lockdown and practically skipped out the door. Hope you have a lovely day. X

bubbleup · 15/06/2020 10:55

"I'm at work, cold and the sky's grey."

Sorry Margot 😎

I'm out of order I know. Day off for me, although I really should do something more productive than this tbh.

But you can now shop in non essential shops, just to clarify!

EllaAlright · 15/06/2020 10:58

Enjoy! I live near a shopping outlet, so will be taking a mosey down there later this week.

Aridane · 15/06/2020 10:58

What are all the deletions for?

pigeon999 · 15/06/2020 10:59

So the homeschooling is NOT going well this morning, how is it is going for your dc? I am finding they are really struggling with motivation now. I am considering just throwing in the towel, and going sooner rather than later. I am bribing said children with ice cream AND the sweet shop now (my no food reward value system has hit the buffers since the lockdown began)

Most salons are operating on line booking systems, so you can definitely book in advance. I would strongly advise it actually, as no chance to get in this side of the summer holidays without one.

I am definitely doing my 'civic duty' for the economy, so love that term! I will be wheeling that out for everything going forward Grin

Where are the happy threads pp have told me to join?

I’m curious to see what the shopping ‘experience’ will be like with the new rules and regulations. I don’t love shopping as a leisure activity but I do enjoy a good mooch around Westfield as I find it less claustrophobic than other places. I’m shielding, so I reckon it’ll be a while before I’m somewhere like that. :(

I have to say, taking my children shopping is one of my least favourite things. It’s just like actively choose to take their worst versions of themselves out in public just for me. Grin

Astrabees · 15/06/2020 11:06

I'm far too concerned about Covid infection to go out shopping, except very occasionally to get food. There didn't seem much social distancing going on in the crowds outside Primark shown on the news this morning. I work with older people and my service has had only one death throughout the crisis, I want to keep it that way. We must not be complacent about the dangers of a second wave. I'm quite happy to spend money on clothes etc. but my shopping will be on line. I support local restaurants who have been offering takeaway food during the pandemic and I find I prefer eating in the garden at home, with a really good bottle of wine to sitting in a crowded restaurant. There is more to life than queuing up outside a cheap (or expensive) clothes shop.

Bluesheep8 · 15/06/2020 11:08

Really? God there's even more stupidity about than I feared.

Kazzyhoward · 15/06/2020 11:08

Not here in Scotland!! Queen Nicola has declared it is forbidden!!

But we all know she's playing politics and being awkward for the sake of it to be different from England without any actual logic. It's what she's been doing right from day 1.

Cattermole · 15/06/2020 11:12

Well, report from the (ha) frontline is that Home Bargains is actually quieter than it has been of late, possibly because everyone who can now go somewhere else has done so.
Which means mum was able to do some serious meandering and chatting to the shelf-stackers whilst buying lovely silly things which are important to her.

bubbleup · 15/06/2020 11:12

Hmm. Good point. What are all the deletions for? 🤔

ilovesooty · 15/06/2020 11:14

As long as my heart is still beating I will be making the best of my life

I thought the script writers for "Gone With the Wind" had all died by now

MaudesMum · 15/06/2020 11:16

I won't be hitting the high street, because not being able to try on clothes doesn't really work for me - I will continue buying clothes online. However, I will be shopping in many of the independent shops in our town, because they're part of what makes it a great place, and I'd hate for them to close. I'll probably wait until tomorrow or later in the week as I hate queuing. I'm also currently stalking my hairdresser's website daily, so I can book for as early in July as possible!

Cam77 · 15/06/2020 11:17

The Tories past and current preference for herd immunity is apparent in their every action. Mass opening of shops when 1500 new cases recorded yesterday? (and probably more like 5,000+ actually infected).
Okay then. The UK has now had 87 days of 1000+ new daily cases.
That certainly is "world beating" Mr Johnson.

waterlego · 15/06/2020 11:20

Definitely not going near any shops. I dislike shopping at the best of times 😬

I’m doing what I’ve done every other day of lockdown: online workouts, walk the dog, have an afternoon nap, bit of housework, make some dinner.

vanillandhoney · 15/06/2020 11:20

@Ullupullu

Why is it irresponsible?

Shops are re-opening. OP hasn't said she's going to ignore social distancing. You can shop and stay two metres apart from other people at the same time Shock

All our local shops are re-opening today (small independents who really need people to support them) and every single one is maintaining social distancing, limiting numbers and closing at lunch to clean. They're also all supplying sanitiser at the door and on tills for people to use.

No more dangerous than going to Tesco - in fact, probably much safer.
