I’m going to order a couple of books to pick up at my local book shop for DD and me. Amazon is charging nearly full price for them so we might as well go local, and I’m assuming there won’t be huge queues.

I also want to get a new scratching post when the local pet shop opens.

Sandybval · 14/06/2020 14:09

read this week that the government pay primark not to go online as they are getting people onto the high street and if they went online it would kill the high street.

Primark have never gone online as they don't need to, and it wouldn't be particularly cost effective.

Cerealkillers · 14/06/2020 14:15

Nope, I haven’t missed them & anything I’ve needed has been bought online.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 14/06/2020 14:18

No, but nothing to do with the current situation. I just hate shopping. And shopping centres.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 14/06/2020 14:19

I was back in the gym as soon as it opened, though Smile

Tigger001 · 14/06/2020 14:20

Absolutely not for me, we deem the number of deaths still to high to risk it.

Theforest · 14/06/2020 14:23

I need to return a parcel to Next and I cant get a courier as I dont have a garage/shed/porch. I have 2 weeks, so might go in evening when probably quieter.

Muminho · 14/06/2020 14:37

No. Working and don't need anything. Looking forward to a mooch in Waterstones soon though, maybe next weekend.

thatgingergirl · 14/06/2020 14:45

I will probably go tomorrow. Small town with a few independent shops. I need some trimming from a small haberdashery and a gift for neice's birthday. The gift shop says it has removed some of its mid-aisle display units so there is more room - sounds fine to me.

I've been supermarket/farm shop/chemist etc. shopping throughout lockdown for myself and my parents anyway.

simdd · 14/06/2020 14:59

I want to look in H&M and I'm assuming that won't be crazy like Primark will be.
What's people's opinions on when things will go back to normal with no social distancing etc ?
How will it work for Xmas shopping if it's like this

@maddiemookins16mum. Alas, Boswell's department store closed down, shortly before covid-19 was known about in the UK. Sad Did they know something? The basement held 101 different things for the home and yes, it still had the toy shop. I felt that the ground floor did not change with the times, though.
Where will I buy my sparklers 5th November now?

A potter round Blackwell's bookshop is one of life's joys. It is monumentally difficult to leave without buying anything. Smile

BarbedBloom · 14/06/2020 15:19

Nope. Will stick to online

shartsi · 14/06/2020 15:36

Yes I will. I need new running shoes. I have been running daily since lockdown begun and my shoes are worn out.

IcedPurple · 14/06/2020 15:58

I'm in Ireland at the moment. Most shops reopened here on Monday, and other than the fact that there are queues outside some shops and changing rooms are shut, there's not much difference. There are no rules about not touching the merchandise, and even if there were, it's hard to see how they could be enforced unless the shop pays extra staff to patrol every aisle. People have been touching stuff in supermarkets all along with no apparent ill effects so I don't think it's such a big deal anyway. I expect things will be similar in Britain too.

mum2jakie · 14/06/2020 16:22

I won't be going to the big Intu shopping centre as it has announced that it now has unisex toilets! Eww.

I will be visiting my local high street and some of the independent shops that have opened as I have some gifts to get this week.

Marellaspirit · 14/06/2020 16:46

I don't think I will be, and this is coming from someone who used to love a mooch around the shops! Over the last few months I've realised that I don't actually NEED anything that badly. Going to the shops won't be the same experience for a long time, so unless there's something I'm desparate for and can't wait for it to be delivered online, or can't buy it at the supermarket I'll be staying away. I'd rather be allowed to meet up with my fiance and stay over (we live too far apart for a day trip and can't form a bubble as we both live in mixed households).

Jimdandy · 14/06/2020 17:16

I am on Tuesday out of necessity.

My children have both had growth spurts. I’ve shopped online at Next but every size and all the summer stuff seems to be out of stock.

At Sainsbury's they had none of the sizes I needed left and when I went online to was sold out! Same happened at Asda.

I have to go. I’m down to 2 pairs of shorts for my boy and 3 summer dresses that fit my daughter!!

Igtg · 14/06/2020 17:45

Oh yes the toilets! I forgot about that. That puts me off even more.

WhereYouLeftIt · 14/06/2020 18:26

My feelings exactly. Where's the fun in browsing now? Physical shopping, being in a shop with a face mask on and reluctant to pick stuff up to have a closer look in case I contaminate it and it has to be quarantined out the back for three days. Doesn't sound like a lot of fun Sad to me. Similarly, anything I've needed has been bought online - nothing really to shop for!

OhMyDarling · 14/06/2020 18:28

Not a chance!!!!
And I have dd’s bday to shop for!
Online all the way.

purpleme12 · 14/06/2020 18:49

I'm desperate for some shorts that fit (that aren't stupidly short but also aren't long either) I have never been able to find any. The shorts I've got keep falling down even though the length is ok. So annoying and not right. I've no idea which ones to get though
And now one of my favourite t-shirts is ruined cos my child pulled it and pulled it andv stretched it cos she's so angry nowadays
But even when I do go I often don't find something
I really need some though

purpleme12 · 14/06/2020 18:50

I can't see rules that say you have to wear masks?

bridgetreilly · 14/06/2020 18:52

Literally never occurred to me to do so. Shopping is really far down the list of things I want to be able to do again.

zingally · 14/06/2020 18:55

I would like to support my local shops, but I'm currently furloughed on a pittance, and it's as much as I can to pay my bills right now. Nothing spare to support anyone else unfortunately!

Not even had a takeaway during lockdown!

stickerqueen · 14/06/2020 19:01

I'm staying home there are a few things we could do with but will order online instead. food shopping has been bad enough I can't stand in long queues so will be avoiding non-essential shops.
