My daughter desperately needs shoes but has strange feet so would need to try on- I guess I’ll just have to buy loads and take some back? Can I even do that?

purpleme12 · 14/06/2020 11:37

I'm not even sure if the shops I want are opening yet. Dorothy Perkins mainly. Perhaps New Look

Eve · 14/06/2020 11:38

Not tomorrow but this week , small market town with independent shops!

Need some t shirts and some Clarins items from a local shop.

Ponoka7 · 14/06/2020 11:41

I need bras and Primark fit me perfectly, but I've done my back in, so can't go this week. I've got vouchers to use up, so will go at the start of July. By then we'll know if the protests and shopping has changed the infection and hospital figures.

I am walking to a children's clothes shop by my DD's. I'll get public transport to provide childcare. They've got a massive sale on and some lovely bits.

For people who haven't got cars and don't live close to beaches/parks, it's a nice distraction. Also holidays/days out are starting again. They are, after all our Guinea pigs.

Ponoka7 · 14/06/2020 11:42

BrutusMcDogface, you can shop with your DD, or you can return as usual. They are asking people to return goids as soon as possible because they don't put them back out for three days.

Sindragosan · 14/06/2020 11:42

Online shopping isn't free to set up - there is generally a large online team of developers, designers, marketing etc, with managers to go with it, then you need warehousing, picking, packing etc. All these costs need to go on the product which puts prices up. Online only doesn't have all the retail costs - staff, buildings, rates etc. Running high street and online together is an expensive business.

I will have a trip to primark though probably not this week for children's clothes, all the outdoor play is tough on clothes.

Bookworm36 · 14/06/2020 11:44

I've just written a post about this. I wouldn't want to go rushing back anyway as I think its too soon, but having kids means that we can't anyway. I just don't think you can go into these shops, especially small shops, with young kids. Yes some people will, but i don't think it's a good idea. My hubby is at work 6am til 6pm 6 days a week and obviously noone else can babysit so I feel like I can't go anywhere until September when they will hopefully return to school

BrutusMcDogface · 14/06/2020 11:48

Thank you, ponoka. Think I’ll take her but will wait a while first! I’m also expecting hoards to descend this week, especially with Father’s Day at the weekend.

Sillysop92 · 14/06/2020 11:50

Not me as I have to go to work, perhaps on the weekend or the following one. I need to update my work wardrobe and I dislike buying clothes on line, so I’ll go and have a wander and a browse. Looking forward to going to a bookshop the most.

Number3or4 · 14/06/2020 11:52

Dh is working tomorrow and I don’t fancy very long queues with no toilets, dragging small children with me. I said no to my nursery child going to school, why would I take him to a crowded shop? I’m also lazy with a newborn who would probably poo as soon as I join the first queue. I rather make some pizza with my dc. Dh would probably go sometime this week.

GinWithRosie · 14/06/2020 11:59

Nope 🤷‍♀️ Not because I'm worried, but because I've simply not missed the experience to be honest. Even pre-COVID I'd have rather chewed my own arm off than shop, but this has reinforced that for me...it's just not necessary. I've been able to get everything I needed from the comfort of my sofa 🥰

To be totally transparent, the one exception to this for me is having my hair cut and highlighted. I am very much looking forward to sorting out my Lockdown Hair 😂

NeverForgetYourDreams · 14/06/2020 11:59

Nope at work.

Hollyhead · 14/06/2020 12:04

Probably not tomorrow but will be heading to JL for a browse ASAP :D will ideally wait until a few more coffee shops open for takeaway!

lazyarse123 · 14/06/2020 12:11

My dd made me laugh on Friday. She has made a beautiful quilt for a friend who is having a baby in a couple of weeks but she needed some wadding but didn't want to buy on online as she needs to see the size. I went with her to Dunelm and there were queues half way round the store and she asked me "why are all these people here?" Well same reason as you love, so we left it and will try another time.

SistemaAddict · 14/06/2020 12:11

Having read the email from
John Lewis saying what to expect it sounds like no fun at all. But I'm
Shielded anyway. Queues, distancing, screens, masks, people. No thanks.

DrManhattan · 14/06/2020 12:15

No ta.

PinkiOcelot · 14/06/2020 12:15

No. I’m going to avoid. I’m at work tomorrow but wouldn’t be going anyway.

Doggyperson · 14/06/2020 12:23

I have been going to the pound shop for the past two weekedns for bits and bobs, which was very exciting! But clothes shopping when I can't try anything on, having to avoid people, being conscious that the longer I take the more I hold people up, nah, I won't bother.

Our local highstreet was dying a death before all this and now I fear this will be the end of it, so very sad for all involved.

Samtsirch · 14/06/2020 12:25

No.
I think the only time I will go in future will be if I absolutely can’t find what I need online.

AngelicInnocent · 14/06/2020 12:26

I will be taking the opportunity to do my supermarket shop in the hopes that there will be fewer people because they are all at the shopping centres.

Inthemuckheap · 14/06/2020 12:29

Nope I'll be at work as usual. I avoid shopping at the best of times!

SomewhereEast · 14/06/2020 12:36

Yes -possibly not tomorrow but definitely this week. Our town has a good high street & plenty of indies & it needs our support to survive. I've always tended to limit online shopping anyway for that reason. And given the quite large local authority area I live in hasn't recorded a single new confirmed Covid case in five days, the biggest risk I"m running is tripping over some social distancing signage

GabsAlot · 14/06/2020 12:37

no butg i dont shop much anyway-if pp really thinks its going to be queit tomorrow theyre deluded already on twitter loads of people saying theyre going out

PuppyMonkey · 14/06/2020 12:39

Going for a “browse” - Ha ha.Grin

TSSDNCOP · 14/06/2020 12:46

I love shopping, and pre Corona would while away many hours at Bluewater. But right now, it'd take an awful lot to get me back there.
I've observed lockdown and think that it is right that restrictions are slowly eased. But I think throwing caution to the wind in any case of mass gathering is imprudent. I cannot see why people would rush to Primark or the beach and protest sending their kids to school.
I've changed my habits through force but I've saved a lot of money in the last 3 months and I'm enjoying that, it has made me realise how much I fritter. I want to support the small traders that made lockdown more bearable, and didn't price gouge when they could have than the large chains.
I'm enjoying spending my down time lying on a deckchair reading or looking at the sky.
