I hope its not too busy.

mamasiz · 14/06/2020 12:50

Nope. 31 weeks pregnant and shielding my asthmatic child. Also I wouldn’t trust this government and their decision making as far as I could throw them - I do things my way!

LaneBoy · 14/06/2020 12:52

Nope. I’ve been to town a few times to get prescriptions and a bit of food shopping (we don’t have a car so top up more) and it’s been ok - nice in a way as I’m autistic so the quiet, lack of people, and spacious queues have given my senses a break! But seeing all the stickers on the floor, barriers etc the last week or two has been unnerving - and I just can’t see how it’ll work with everyone queuing outside shops as surely the main concourse of the mall itself will then be rammed?! I think we had the virus already so I’m not too worried about that but I’d still rather not be in massive crowds.

So I probably won’t go down there again unless I need essentials. There are a couple of bits I’d like to get for my eldest’s birthday that I can’t so easily get online, but they are just extras and if I don’t get a chance in the next week it doesn’t really matter.

Noextremes2017 · 14/06/2020 12:54

Happy to go when I need something. Right now I don't.

Wauden · 14/06/2020 13:07

I want to go to Boswell's book shop to order a book in person, partly because I disagree with Amazon's behaviour.

Wauden · 14/06/2020 13:09

Oops, I mean Blackwell's bookshop.

FluffyKittensinabasket · 14/06/2020 13:21

I just order online now. The high street and 2 million jobs will be gone soon, very sad.

maddiemookins16mum · 14/06/2020 13:27

@Wauden Lived in Oxford for many, many years, a trip to Blackwells book shops is one of my favourite things. Used to love Boswells too, especially the toys on the lower ground floor, is it still there??

runrabbitrunrunrun · 14/06/2020 13:27

Idiots 🤷‍♀️

Sandybval · 14/06/2020 13:28

Idiots 🤷‍♀️

Why?

Ted27 · 14/06/2020 13:32

M&S has been open, I popped in last week for a few basics, you were allowed to touch. Not a problem, same at Wilkos for some gardening supplies

I won't be going in to tomorrow as I will be working but will go later in the week for Waterdstones.

I've bought a lot if stuff online over the last few weeks and am fed up with the amount of over packaging which I'm left to dispose of.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 14/06/2020 13:32

He'll no!
Didn't like shopping pre-covid, now my idea of hell.

SistemaAddict · 14/06/2020 13:33

@maddiemookins16mum the toys are on the top floor or were last time I was in Oxford.

forrandomposts · 14/06/2020 13:38

Where's the info that says you can't touch anything?

Have just watched the John Lewis video and it doesn't mention this?

morelikeaclubsandwich · 14/06/2020 13:39

I will be working tomorrow but am not looking forward to shopping at all.
It will be the same tense joyless experience that most things are at the moment. People scowling if you wear a mask, scowling if you don't. You can't win. Can't get a bus into town without a big faff. Can't hear anyone nor can they hear you when masks are involved.
I did enjoy a takeaway costa the other day though and had some good online discounts recently (sandals)

Musereader · 14/06/2020 13:41

Yes, i ordered some books for pickup at WHSmiths and the delivery notification was the day before lockdown. I can only assume that they have been sitting in a box in the store since then, so once it is open i will be walking there during my lunch to see if they have them.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 14/06/2020 13:41

No. I'd prefer to save the environment. I don't need anything so why?

runningon · 14/06/2020 13:53

Not me.
A) I'm working
B) I don't need anything - my high street is just boring chains
C) I don't view shopping as a pleasant leisure activity.

MrsFezziwig · 14/06/2020 13:57

Not on the first day but I will go - I’m quite evangelical about supporting my local town (deprived area). I’m lucky though that I can pick my times and tend to go when it’s quieter anyway, thinking about when I used to go shopping pre-lockdown I don’t recall ever getting really close to other people anyway.
It’s also because I’d like to go a little way towards getting back to being the person I was before lockdown, so un-anxious that I forgot to have my flu jab this year despite being old (although that would be everyone over 25 in most Mumsnetters’ view).

lboogy · 14/06/2020 13:58

Not tomorrow but in a few days time

simdd · 14/06/2020 14:00

I love shipping too.
Me and friend could make a day of it at the metro centre.
Meet early go for breakfast, get a coffee for the train.
Shopping then lunch then more browsing
Coffee and cake
Feels like the fun has been zapped out of it

*shopping

Babyroobs · 14/06/2020 14:01

Not for a few weeks. I need some new summer tops and usually go to TK max but it is crowded there with big queues at the best of times.

PinkSubscriber · 14/06/2020 14:02

I read this week that the government pay primark not to go online as they are getting people onto the high street and if they went online it would kill the high street.

letmethinkaboutitfornow · 14/06/2020 14:02

I am going! Three shops are on the list (at least)
One of them is Hotel Chocolat! 🍫😂🍫
