DD1 had a birthday right before the start of lockdown in March. She was given vouchers for shops that aren't online and is desperate to spend them. I've asked her to give it a couple of weeks to let the rush die down and then I'll grit my teeth and take her. We live 15 minutes from the city centre so it's no biggie just to pop in to visit one or two shops.

rainylake · 14/06/2020 11:10

It sounds bloody awful. No touching unless you buy, no trying things on - why would I schlep down to the shops instead of buy online except to try things on?? Long queues, one way systems, no going with anyone else. Sounds like an utterly depressing and stressful way to spend the day.

halcyondays · 14/06/2020 11:13

I think Primark always said they wouldn’t be able to keep their prices as low if they went online as well.

Cantwait4summer · 14/06/2020 11:14

staying put and continue to shop online !
if I went out my kids would want to come too ! - too much hassle and not risking it either .

montyliesandmontycries · 14/06/2020 11:14

not me, nothing we need. But it will be handy when we need something short notice I suppose and don't have to wait for an online delivery

Igtg · 14/06/2020 11:16

No thanks. You’re not allowed to touch anything anyway so you may as well just look online.

ShinyMe · 14/06/2020 11:18

I've got to work all week, so no. I've never been one for shopping much anyway, but I'm so bored and lonely from working from home and not seeing anyone in so long that I might go shopping next weekend just for something to do.

SpillTheTeaa · 14/06/2020 11:19

Yes I'll be going to Smyths to look for DS's birthday presents. Brought some online but I love to be able to have a browse and see what's there.

SpillTheTeaa · 14/06/2020 11:21

Forget it. I’d rather browse online in bed and stroke one of my six pussies.

This made me giggle like a school girl Grin

forrandomposts · 14/06/2020 11:23

I'll be going this wee - so excited! I've lost a fucktonne of weight (real measurement) and so excited to enjoy shopping again! Plus need to figure out what size I am in different shops!

Vanillaradio · 14/06/2020 11:23

Not tommorow, (work!) but ds desperately needs shoes and I have promised he can choose a book, so will be going next Saturday.

Iwantacookie · 14/06/2020 11:24

I'm only going to sports direct to return items. Hoping to be first in the queue so I can get in out and home.

mencken · 14/06/2020 11:25

there are some things that it would be useful to have that Aldi don't sell - but the infection rate is not yet low enough for me to chance it. Hopefully in a few weeks.

PuppyMonkey · 14/06/2020 11:26

I don’t understand how the hell it can work tbh. Those of us who enjoy Clothes shopping, for example, enjoy being able to browse freely, have a look round, spy something interesting and go in closer for a further look, have a think about it, come back later having made a decision, notice something else we’d never even thought of... and that’s before deciding to try it on, trying the next size up, noticing something else on the rack on the way to pay....

This “new normal“ will just take all the joy out of the experience. And you can’t even go for a cup of tea/sit down. And queuing for every shop. Horrible.

I’ll just carry on ordering online from now on I’m afraid to say.

purpleme12 · 14/06/2020 11:27

I really need some new jeans and tops.
Can you not touch anything then? I touch lots of clothes in a clothes shop to see what they're like. And to pull the clothes apart on the rail so you can see it

SisterFarAway · 14/06/2020 11:28

I will go to a local, independent book shop on Wednesday or Thursday, as I just saw in their window that they have a book I want.
They are a very small business and have been struggling during this time, so I will give them my business rather than Waterstones or WH Smith.

Igtg · 14/06/2020 11:29

Yes I would normally hold things up against me, feel the fabric, rummage through the sizes. Not sure how you can do that any more.

CoronaIsComing · 14/06/2020 11:29

Me because I need to get DS’s high school uniform before it sells out.

Aragog · 14/06/2020 11:31

I'm hoping the queue aren't too bad at our local Lush store. Dh goes into work on a Tuesday afternoon and I really need some of their solid shampoo. The replacement I got whilst they were closed entirely is making my hair look dreadful. Their online shop is now open but postage is fairly high for one item.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 14/06/2020 11:31

I might do. I'm a bit of a minimalist with clothes, the downside of which is that things get worn out/tatty and need replacing. I'd donated/recycled lots of summer things at the end of last summer so do need things. I return 90% of things I order online so that's not an efficient way for me to shop. Will probably go to smaller independent boutiques though - I buy less but spend a bit more.

namechangenumber2 · 14/06/2020 11:31

Nope, we managed fine over the last 3 months with online shopping etc so will keep doing that for the time being. If there is something that crops up that we need I would be happy to go into our local shopping centre to get it, but until that point I can't be bothered!

Our shopping centre posted on FB this morning asking who was excited and which shops are you looking forward to reopening and someone replied saying they're just looking forward to a mooch around Confused. I can't imagine it's going to be very mooch friendly for now!

ginsparkles · 14/06/2020 11:32

I'll be going in on Wednesday to get some bits for Father's Day.

Furrydogmum · 14/06/2020 11:33

Nope - I hate shopping anyway, so the thought of the added stress of ensuring social distancing will keep me home!

vanillandhoney · 14/06/2020 11:34

No way. If you can't try anything on, it makes more sense to buy online, try on at home and do free returns - most shops are allowing free returns with a year because of everything that's happened.

I don't see what will be remotely fun about browsing a shop at the moment.

vanillandhoney · 14/06/2020 11:35

@Mawbags

I wonder what has happened to primark while all this has been going on

WHY doesn’t it have online shopping? Does anybody know? It just must have lost £££££££

Presumably because of the huge, huge range of stock they sell. I also think if they offered online shopping they wouldn't be able to sustain their shops in the way they do.
