Just to point out that 49 police officers were injured in London last weekend;

8 June 2020 -
"Frontline police officers have called for an apology from bosses for failing to protect almost 50 colleagues injured over the weekend in the capital’s anti-racism protests."

"adding to 13 hurt last week."

"Metropolitan Police Federation chairman Ken Marsh called for urgent action from Met Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick and demanded officers are properly equipped."

"Mr Marsh, whose organisation represents 30,000 rank-and-file officers in London, said the Met’s tactics are “very wrong” and said police should be dealing with disorder “far more robustly”."

‘I just don't know where they are in society on a day to day basis.’

Everywhere. You just don’t know any of them well enough for them to share their views with you...

@NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite

Please note: the stuff you listed as a decent way to protest is actually what the majority of blm supporters are doing and have been doing since the movement started some years ago.

I'm sorry that you seem to be upset that black lives matter are getting traction and have gained a great deal of support from many respectable figures and organisations in public life . But they are here to stay so get used to it!

actiongirl1978 · 13/06/2020 21:22

@montyliesandmontycries I should be grateful that this is the case then I suppose.

Absolutely horrified by the spitting kicking attack in hyde park.

Imissmoominmama · 13/06/2020 21:28

Mine wasn’t there- he was doing yoga in the garden this afternoon.

I know someone who is married to a racist, but he’s a ‘respectable’ one, so heck, that’s ok Hmm. I lost all respect for her when I met him- he’s revolting.

Well, I've seen this video in the Metro;

8 Jun - Police chased down Whitehall and Cenotaph damaged at BLM protests;

"Footage shows a mob chasing officers down the streets of Whitehall as they were pelted with bottles, fireworks and smoke bombs at around 9pm."

What is 'the other side'?
Black lives don't matter?

ShootsFruitAndLeaves · 13/06/2020 21:37

Well we know that BNP voters are 60% male, 40% female.

So roughly 2/3 of them are likely to have wives with identical views.

I do not know who pays you to post
but PLEASE do not defend the gammons

Paska · 13/06/2020 21:46

@Devlesko

The same type who are married to the people who were rioting, all the same different politics, nothing to do with BLM, just an excuse to riot after months being locked in.
Yeah, people protesting against racism are exactly the same as fucking neo-nazis.
NervousInYorkshire · 13/06/2020 21:49

@GinWithRosie

I was just looking at footage of this...and the one up in Glasgow. There isn't a woman to be seen! It's extraordinary that an entire protest group demographic appears to be entirely made up of white middle-aged men! There are a few 'youngsters' sure, but in the main these are men way past their prime simply out for a fight! Horrible, horrible people! I'm in my 50s and these will have been the very same men who were part of the terrible 80s organised football hooliganism...when these 'fans' were at the height of thuggery. It was dreadful then and it's dreadful now!

What is it, do you think, that makes men (and it IS men!) behave in this appalling way??

BBC News 'breaking' banner referred to men protesting - obviously it's accurate but it made me do a double take.
Clavinova · 13/06/2020 21:52

Well done Clav now post the facists doing Nazi salutes to the statues they were 'protecting'

I can't - I haven't seen the footage!

I do not know who pays you to post
but PLEASE do not defend the gammons

Must be ITV - I've linked to their web page.

I haven't defended anyone except the police officers who were hurt.

What is 'the other side'?
Black lives don't matter?

twitter.com/ukblm/status/1271874727410307072/photo/2

"We're guided by a commitment to dismantle imperialism, capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy and the state structures that disproportionately and systematically harm Black people in Britain"

twitter.com/ukblm/status/1271406931689771008

"Police abolition is a vision for a better future, not a call to close all prisons and sack all police tomorrow. More here"

www.vice.com/en_uk/article/qj4k4x/what-would-happen-if-we-defunded-police-in-the-uk

which states that the goals are to

"be the end of drugs policing and drugs stop and search"

and "The second one would be disbanding the Prevent agenda.”

Prevent is a government counter-terror initiative which attempts to use schools, universities, workplaces, and other institutions to identify people who are at supposed risk of radicalisation,"

and

"“we should see an end to what David Cameron called the ‘all-out war on gangs and gang culture"

It's claimed that defunding the police would allow for more money to spend on other things such as mental health and the NHS.

However the police budget is £13 billion and mental health spending alone is £12 billion, and it's obvious that scrapping the police would not solve all these other problems at all.

It's extremely clear that the overwhelming majority of the population are opposed to the specific goals of BLM.

For example, we know the public did not trust Corbyn on terrorism and preferred Boris. yougov.co.uk/topics/politics/articles-reports/2019/12/05/britons-twice-likely-trust-tories-terror-compared- That is not I think because Boris had particularly good credentials, but because people don't want things like 'Prevent' to be shut down.

In the US people have been polled and there is overwhelming opposition to cutting police funding

californiaglobe.com/section-2/yougov-poll-finds-only-16-americans-want-to-defund-the-police-65-oppose/

Most people want MORE police.

People don't want to 'dismantle capitalism'

The agenda of BLM is overwhelmingly opposed by the majority of the population.

@isitfridayyet1

'Please note: the stuff you listed as a decent way to protest is actually what the majority of blm supporters are doing and have been doing since the movement started some years ago."
I'm glad. I think that is the best way forward for any group to change things.

"I'm sorry that you seem to be upset that black lives matter are getting traction and have gained a great deal of support from many respectable figures and organisations in public life . But they are here to stay so get used to it!"
I don't know where you have got this idea from. I'm not upset at all. Where do you think I have expressed any upset that the be BLM movement have increased their support? I have said nothing of the sort. Have you got me mixed up with someone else?

All I have said is that there has been bad behaviour by both sets of protestors...and there has. I consider the following to be appalling:
Tearing down of statues by protestors.
Bleaching of the statue of black Playwright, Alfred Fagon.
Urinating against PC Keith Palmer's memorial.
Throwing cycles/drinks cans at the police/police horses.
Attacking the police physically or verbally goading them.
Nazi salutes.
Terrorising innocent people having a picnic in Hyde Park.

This appalling behaviour has been carried out over the past week by various protest groups/thugs.
