WTAF - Far right protests

Poppi89 · 12/06/2020 11:18

I have just heard on the radio that far-right protesters will be out tomorrow in response to the BLM protesters. People are being urged not to be out in support of BLM tomorrow due to the aggressive nature of the far-right group and BLM protests are being cancelled because of them.

I am outraged by this. The BLM protesters are asking for people to not be killed due to the colour of their skin. They have rightly or wrongly made a decision to put themselves at risk of COVID-19 to help spread this message - a lot of people have called them idiots etc for doing this.

The far-right protests are now also protesting in large groups (but not in response to a murder) and are 'known' for being aggressive. How is this acceptable?

I would like to hear from anyone who is planning to join/agree with these far-right protests and their reasons why?

"It seems that neither “side” has covered themselves in glory here."

Protesting for basic human rights versus supposedly protecting concrete blocks

Has anyone supporting the anti protest protest today justified the urination on PC Palmer's memorial? They are disgusting racists. If you think not watch the news.
Paul Golding is there - he has convictions for terrorist offences and even tried to incite stuff in NI.

SpocksEyebrows · 13/06/2020 17:56

I don't fully condone the BLM protests (breaking lockdown, throwing bricks at horses, injuring police) so I must be a racist. Yawn.

Actually, I really don't want to see anyone get killed, which is where this is going, whatever their colour or wherever they fall on the political spectrum.

YounghillKang · 13/06/2020 17:58

Antifa are more than aggressive- they endorse violence.

Ah yes the classic ‘they’re all as bad as each other’ claim! My seven-stone, 14-year-old, vegan, niece who went on last weeks’ march – makes me shake in my boots!! She took falafel wraps no doubt for nefarious reasons...The local vicar went too, must be sure to steer clear of him in future…

And as for this lot, horrifying – the residents of Plumstead must be up in arms in terror at the prospect of all these nasty antifa types

They are racists, not patriots. Doing Nazi salutes in front of Churchill ffs. That’s how thick they are; they don’t even know why we have a statue of Churchill in the first place.

Exactly, the irony doesn't appear to have occurred to them, that in WW2 we were at war with the Nazis.

pigeon999 · 13/06/2020 18:03

BLM need to appoint an official spokesperson that can communicate clearly what changes they would like to see, and a proper debate needs to happen across the country as to how we can permanently address the injustice that is felt. We can not just riot our way out of this problem.

A serious national debate with the government, and those that are leading BLM together with other EM groups must come together so we can work on solutions. We need more representation in our political parties across the board, more cabinet ministers of every race, we need more women, we need much much more diversity to reflect the needs of every single person in this country.

alreadytaken · 13/06/2020 18:04

there were quite a lot of white people at the BLM march - and they were prominent in the violence. I wonder how many were back there today but this time out in the open.

Personally I cant get worked up about most statues but they should all leave the Cenotaph alone.

JFSB · 13/06/2020 18:08

Protecting statues indeed
Picnic in peace

Stressing · 13/06/2020 18:08

@Livelovebehappy

Boris Johnson needs to put a stop to all protests whilst in Covid. Absolute madness to see this happening every week. Our police should not be placed in this situation whereby they are targets for two warring factions. All focus needs to be on fighting the virus and getting our country back to normality. I'm pig sick of it as I guess a lot of people are. We need the government to step up to the plate now and ban all protests. They're serving no purpose whatsoever, and are creating more divisions, not resolving issues.
Yes to that.

Protesting for basic human rights versus supposedly protecting concrete blocks

I don't see how ripping down statues increases anyone's human rights. Using violence, throwing flares at horses, injuring dozens and dozens of police officers will simply ruin all of the massive support that BLM currently have in this country. The country are behind BLM in the main. It would be a shame to throw away such huge support, better to utilise it for real change surely?

BaileysforBreakfast · 13/06/2020 18:11

OMG that picnic video. What is wrong with these people?

Glowcat · 13/06/2020 18:12

To clarify for anyone who is confused, this is far right groups attacking the police. It’s not two lots of protesters with the police in the middle.

pigeon999 · 13/06/2020 18:13

**has

pigeon999 · 13/06/2020 18:14

glow It is definitely two sets of protesters with the police in the middle! That is precisely what is happening. The police are trying to keep them apart.

Both sets of protesters have been attacking the police.

Glowcat · 13/06/2020 18:15

Again we’re back to ‘ripping down statues.’ One statue was removed in Bristol, where there has been a local campaign for its removal going back years.

Stressing · 13/06/2020 18:16

As soon as you raise a fist, throw a bottle, hurl abuse at another human being you have lost your right to have your voice heard.

Regardless of what side you think you’re on.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 13/06/2020 18:16

It's sad but not unexpected that the voting ratio is tipped in favour of YABU as opposed to YANBU. And what that shows, when you get down to where the cheese binds, is just how much of this 'socially acceptable' face of racism is simmering only just under the surface.

I wonder how many of the people holding such sentiments have joined in the witch hunts against the various celebrities lambasted for racism?

BLM protests are against systemic racism and are a long-overdue backlash against people being unfairly disadvantaged in terms of justice, economics and casual micro-aggressions, and are sometimes murdered because of the colour of their skin.

The fascist protesters (oh, yes they are) are there for one reason. To create dissent and division and to protest against anti-racism.

The user base on this site is that of a fairly well-educated demographic. If these are the attitudes being espoused here, God knows what hope there is for others. Over the past few weeks I've received just one tiny flavour of the kinds of attitudes BAME people face throughout their lives. Every. Single. Day.

I don't know what kind of person would not want that kind of inequality to stop. I do know that what I think of that attitude is unprintable.

Not surprised by this at all. The protests last week over something that happened in America and that is not even an issue in the U.K. was only going to have one outcome

JFSB · 13/06/2020 18:18

@pigeon999 that is not the case at all

Glowcat · 13/06/2020 18:19

For the majority of the day it’s been the far right attacking the police.

The official BLM protest called off any gathering in London today. Anyone hanging around there now is looking for trouble.

pigeon999 · 13/06/2020 18:19

glow Then why have other statues had to boarded up in central London? Why were they defaced last weekend?

I happen to agree with the Bristol statue being ripped down, it is eleven years too late. However we obviously can not give a green light for statues to be vandalised at will, this is a very slippery slope.

Livingoffcoffee · 13/06/2020 18:22

Yep @McTits racism doesn't exist in the UK. Nothing to see here...🙄

Notmyfirstusername · 13/06/2020 18:23

I keep hearing posters saying 'there's bad on both sides'. Each time I'm reminded of Trump saying that 'there's fine people on both sides' after the events in Charlotte In which a white supremacist terrorist used the terrorist weapon of choice, a vehicle to kill protesters.

There is no moral equivalence between a small number of mostly white idiots with spray cans amongst nationwide peaceful protests And one removal of a statue that most of Bristol had either forgotten was there or wanted removed anyway, vs today where almost all of the idiots want to cause trouble, are banging on the Churchill statue, giving Nazi salutes and urinating on a statue in honour of a patriot who died in the fight against terrorism.
If you think there is , you are no better than Trump, and if you are ok to stand with him on this issue, what does that say about you?

Timefugit · 13/06/2020 18:24

The BLM protests may have been called off in London today but they were not called off in other towns and cities.
