WTAF - Far right protests

Poppi89 · 12/06/2020 11:18

I have just heard on the radio that far-right protesters will be out tomorrow in response to the BLM protesters. People are being urged not to be out in support of BLM tomorrow due to the aggressive nature of the far-right group and BLM protests are being cancelled because of them.

I am outraged by this. The BLM protesters are asking for people to not be killed due to the colour of their skin. They have rightly or wrongly made a decision to put themselves at risk of COVID-19 to help spread this message - a lot of people have called them idiots etc for doing this.

The far-right protests are now also protesting in large groups (but not in response to a murder) and are 'known' for being aggressive. How is this acceptable?

I would like to hear from anyone who is planning to join/agree with these far-right protests and their reasons why?

Like many other white people I would want to join a BLM protest today (masked, at a safe distance). I’m not going for fear of violence.

Quite. I'd be their with bells on were it not for covid. I'd want to take my 11-year old but there's no way I'm putting him anywhere within range of a bunch of actual nazis.

The thing that's really depressing me is the way the government, police and media is quite happy to portray an equivalence between the BLM protestors and this bunch. The first are actual fascists; the second want to police to stop harassing and sometimes killing black people. It's easy to work out whose side the establishment is on.

Alsohuman · 13/06/2020 17:13

Here we go, Cassandra’s joined us. Are you posting that on every thread @Devlesko?

derxa · 13/06/2020 17:13

None of it is acceptable in a pandemic full stop

AwkwardSquad · 13/06/2020 17:16

@Xenia

Tou cannot pick and choose - either people have a right to break cv19 law and protest and they don't. BLM has had some people thinking criminal damage is fine. the other side seem to want the law respected to a greater extent.

Most people of all colours and political views however do not want statues of Churchill etc removed or defaced. We tend to unite over that so the more extreme BLM protestors as well as risking covid 19 out breaks will pretty much help those against their cause if they carry on breaking the law.

This aged well...
Livelovebehappy · 13/06/2020 17:17

Boris Johnson needs to put a stop to all protests whilst in Covid. Absolute madness to see this happening every week. Our police should not be placed in this situation whereby they are targets for two warring factions. All focus needs to be on fighting the virus and getting our country back to normality. I'm pig sick of it as I guess a lot of people are. We need the government to step up to the plate now and ban all protests. They're serving no purpose whatsoever, and are creating more divisions, not resolving issues.

derxa · 13/06/2020 17:17

the second want to police to stop harassing and sometimes killing black people. by hurting and frightening horses? Both sides are arseholes who are out for causing trouble in the middle of a pandemic.

ChroniclesofMama · 13/06/2020 17:19

They don't even know what they're protesting about. They're so fucking stupid, fucking Neanderthal morons. A large proportion of older white overweight men. Pissing against the memorial to PC Palmer who was murdered by a terrorist- FFS what a bloody idiot cretin. Angry Nazi salutes next to Churchill. These people are the lowest of the low. Scraping the barrel, zero intelligence, the dregs of the rubbish bin of humankind. The nation would be better off if they all catch Covid and disappear off the face of the planet.

The BLM protests were by far and away more peaceful. Young people led the way abs there was an atmosphere of hope. Only a tiny tiny minority causing trouble. And today BLM have officially stayed away from central London because it was known the far right idiots were planning this. BLM does not seek violence, unlike these racist racist pricks. Will Johnson renounce these actions with the passion he used against the BLM protests? I doubt it.

@Livelovebehappy I'm normally allfor freedom of expression but I'm with you on this one.

However the blonde narcissist who wants to be everybody's friend won't be making any firm decisions any time soon.

MorganKitten · 13/06/2020 17:28

The BLM protests were cancelled due to racist groups saying they would come up.. the racists went anyway, ironically there are photos of them passing against war statues they claim others disrespected, they assaulted a female police officer and started fights and were giving Nazi salutes.

Defenbaker · 13/06/2020 17:31

There has been awful behaviour on both sides, it's frightening. What's happened today was very predictable, it's the backlash from those who feel that the BLM protesters went too far. Extremists on both sides have ramped up the violence, while peaceful protesters on both sides look on in dismay. It's even worse in America. Frightening times.

HeIenaDove · 13/06/2020 17:36

Far right thugs. @YounghillKang Watched your links Horrifying.

The Grenfell survivors have a silent march on the 14th of every month. Over lockdown it has been online.

It is the third anniversary of the Grenfell fire tomorrow Events to mark this are being held online.

SpocksEyebrows · 13/06/2020 17:39

Apparently it is erupting into violence on both sides. They are as bad as each other. The police have no authority or control. It's time to bring in the army and show ALL British people, on both sides, that we won't tolerate vandalism and violence.

StormzyinaTCup · 13/06/2020 17:40

What has anti vax and anti 5G got to do with any of this?

Nothing at all but Piers Corbyn doesn't like to miss an opportunity to check his megaphone is still in good working order!

TheMarzipanDildo · 13/06/2020 17:42

They are racists, not patriots. Doing Nazi salutes in front of Churchill ffs. That’s how thick they are; they don’t even know why we have a statue of Churchill in the first place.

BaileysforBreakfast · 13/06/2020 17:42

Yeah, poor right wing thugs had no choice but to go and start trouble today. Backlash innit? Hmm

NoMoreDickheads · 13/06/2020 17:44

What they are protesting I think is the vandalism of statues etc mostly.

The BLM protests were also violent and yet the coverage of the whole thing was really gushing, with a career criminal portrayed as a 'gentle giant.'

Don't get me wrong, the police officer shouldn'tve done what be did of course.

The BLM protests were also violent though, and of course will lead to numerous people saying 'I can't breathe' and dying due to the protests spreading Coronavirus.

People from all political persuasions have an equal right to protest.

Antifa are more than aggressive- they endorse violence.

AwkwardSquad · 13/06/2020 17:45

Good grief, there are some frankly terrifying authoritarians on this thread. Calling out for the army, banning all protests? Does that not ring any bells with you? It seems like we’ve forgotten more lessons from history than this country’s role in slavery.

thedancingbear · 13/06/2020 17:47

Yes, because that's what fascists are mainly against, wasn't it - spray painting statues. That's what all the 'Heil Hitlers' are meant to show.

Various posters on this thread - along with the football hooligan nob heads - are great for reminding us exactly why BLM is needed.

Mysterian · 13/06/2020 17:47

What the hell did they call the far right march? "Nazis defending statues of people who beat Nazis"?

RelapsedChocoholic · 13/06/2020 17:48

BLM protesters are in no way in the same league as the Nazi racists who came to London solely to fight today. I didn’t witness any picnickers being threatened by BLM during any of the several protests, I have witnessed white supremacist thugs doing that today.

You’re an idiot to think they are in any way comparable, let alone as ‘bad as each other’

thedancingbear · 13/06/2020 17:48

Best place to start would be by stopping persecuting black people, given this is what kicked all this off. But you don't care about that, do you?

africansassenach · 13/06/2020 17:54

"’There seems to be a sense that wanting to defend monuments from unlawful vandalism means that you are a racist.‘

Great work today then. Not

pigeon999 · 13/06/2020 17:55

Looking at the scenes coming out of Hyde Park just now, riot police will need to be drafted in. It is following the same pattern as the riots in London last time. I am extremely concerned not just for the police and protesters on either side catching CoVid, but also about the country descending into real civil disorder and unrest.

100% BLM have every right to protest peacefully, sadly the protests ended in violence last weekend with no prompting from the counter protesters.

This weekend we are seeing a cross section of society including ex army wishing to protect symbols that they hold dear. This is also not unreasonable.

But this is no longer about race, this has descended into violence of the lowest order. The message will be lost entirely in all the terrible scenes that are coming out every weekend.

This is too many young people locked down for far too long, seeing their life chances evaporate and are boiling with rage. That is what I see.
