In a miserable, joyless world of queues and masks. A couple of friends have lost their jobs this week. Where are we going with this? When will it end?

Indeed. I am neither petulant nor lacking in resilience. Just frankly a bit sad and scared.

tobee · 13/06/2020 16:31

"As is the amount of judgemental people on this site.
the so-called lockdown started on the 23rd March. This year! It hasn't even be 3 months..."

Talk about a non sequitur!

Teateaandmoretea · 13/06/2020 16:35

The ones who lack resilience are the terrified ones refusing to go out imo

Homemadeandfromscratch · 13/06/2020 16:41

I don't know 1 person in real life who hasn't gone out, it's only on MN. Even people who really should be a bit more careful (thinking about elderly cancer patient here!) have been out and about or have at the very least left their home!

Allflightscancelled · 13/06/2020 17:43

Oh u know quite a few who are too scared to go out. M mum and most of her friends, my BIL and his wife, my niece the list is quite long

Allflightscancelled · 13/06/2020 17:43

I know, that should be. Not 'u'

Are other countries banging on about the R? I was chatting to someone from Australia the other day who had no idea what I was on about and thinks we’re all mad.

And yet I have friends in Sydney and Perth, Australia and Portugal and they know what the R rate is as their countries are using it

BlondGirl4boys · 13/06/2020 18:31

And that’s only the beginning. Everyone seems to forget the triple whammy of lockdown/ COVID, recession and Brexit. I never knew I was on death row until all this exploded despite not having committed a crime!!!

IwantKandixxx · 13/06/2020 18:52

I commented to my DD26 that I keep losing track of the days. She replied "Does it even matter what day it is?"
Says it all Shock

Mich1973 · 13/06/2020 19:03

Agree a million percent. The ramifications are massive and outweigh the amount of losses by far.

Regretful123 · 13/06/2020 19:06

Yeah I hate it

chillandrelax · 13/06/2020 19:12

I know people of haven't been out since lockdown and I worry if they are going to struggle when they do eventually have to stop WFH.

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 13/06/2020 19:18

Can anyone point to a country where they've simply just lifted lockdown restrictions with no other precautions like masks or track and trace in place? I'd like to read about how they are fairing.

Alex50 · 13/06/2020 19:21

When you watch London today, lockdown is well and truly over, they need to open schools.

erniepigy · 13/06/2020 19:26

Wow, I think you need to do a bit of history and read up on how tough life has been in the past.
You have a roof over your head, you sleep at home with your family, you are not starving.
I assume you have web access and phones so what is your problem? Can you not tolerate being at home with your nearest and look at your gifts rather than moan about the few restrictions you have. You’re alive for a start! Go look at families living through WW11, sleeping in shelters or underground stations, fashioned to near starvation, never knowing if you would be bombed out, hubby away fighting, kids evacuated.... and that went on for 6 long long years. You have much to be thankful for, suck it up and think how it could be!

Hobnobswantshernameback · 13/06/2020 19:26

It's like the dementors weren't satisfied with the death and sadness of the past few months they're desperate for more and for it be worse And more awful
They're just grief wankers to be honest
They'll be positively orgasmic if the worst happens
Hmm

Hobnobswantshernameback · 13/06/2020 19:27

Ah
A lesser spotted dementor
I suspect their empathy glands were removed in March

Hobnobswantshernameback · 13/06/2020 19:28

And knows fuck all about history

erniepigy · 13/06/2020 19:28

Rationed not fashioned!

katienana · 13/06/2020 19:34

Totally fed up. My little boy sobbed his heart out today because all he wants to do is go camping. His old life was so different.
School 5 days a week, 1 night football, 1 night seeing cousins, 1 night swimming, 1 night Beavers. Weekends we would have trips away, go to national trust, coast, city break, museum, cinema. Always something. Now he can't even go on a fucking swing.
We suggested camping in the garden but he wants desperately to go "somewhere".
He is only 7. We have been seeing his cousins, a third of his class are in school and hugging each other it's cruel to continue when it makes no bloody difference

Teateaandmoretea · 13/06/2020 19:41

Equally I would like to see a proper, peer-reviewed piece of research that properly balances the positives of avoiding covid against all of the negatives of lockdown and this dastardly ‘new normal’ on wider society

Allflightscancelled · 13/06/2020 19:44

It is cruel. Your poor little boy. And whoever said 'do some history' 😒 this is nothing like WWII, despite all the daft rhetoric about it being a war.

And I have never seen a more moronic story than the one on the BBC website about corona being worse than the blitz. Bonkers.

Taliya · 13/06/2020 19:46

OM Goodness. I've never heard so many moany minnies! I'm not being horrible year but you have to count your blessings in life.If you have your health then that is amazing. I've been to Nepal on numerous occasions and helped with a child sponsorship charity there and the awful poverty people have to endure is horryfying. The Nepalese people still are positive and smile. They have been under lockdown with no welfare state, the police had beaten people who broke lock down and their whole economy is in ruins as tourism is finished completely at the moment so millions can't work and get no support from the government. Someone I knew had an accident last year and broke their neck and is paralysed from the neck down and is in their late 30s and has been unable to have family visit them aswell. People need to start realising how lucky they are and stay positive.

Teateaandmoretea · 13/06/2020 19:47

@taliya grow up. It isn’t a race to the bottom.

tobee · 13/06/2020 19:48

But we're not living in the past last time I looked? Don't get the logic of that. I don't think mankind could function if we just have to be grateful that we're not living in the past constantly. It's not terribly realistic is it?

I've got no experience of living in the past beyond my own actual lifetime, so I'd pretty much have to make it up!
