To wonder what happens in society now that will be frowned upon by our descendants

There is lots of things our ancestors did in the past that we quite rightly think are morally reprehensible.

I’m wondering how history will judge us! What things will our descendants judge us for?

I’m thinking:
Destroying the environment
People in 3rd world country making our clothes for peanuts

OP posts:

Shutting the country down and fkng up the economy.

AriettyHomily · 11/06/2020 12:40

Pretty much everything at the moment.

BakedCam · 11/06/2020 12:40

Children being denied school.

Pangur2 · 11/06/2020 12:43

Yeah, sweatshops, environment stuff, maybe eating animals too, (especially if they manage to invent tasty, safe, lab grown meat.)
I say that as someone on keto who lives on bacon and cheese by the way.

FTMF30 · 11/06/2020 12:44

Zoos

Andante57 · 11/06/2020 12:46

I expect it will be something we haven’t predicted.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 11/06/2020 12:46

A lot of business travel
Flying for several hours for a weekend break
Disposable water bottles, takeaway food containers etc

ScribblyGum · 11/06/2020 12:47

How we “care” for our older people, particularly those who are very frail, with dementia and who live in residential and nursing homes.
The death rate from Covid-19 in our care homes will remain a stain on how the UK managed the coronavirus pandemic for decades. It speaks volumes for how we value a section of the most vulnerable members of our society.

theyoungandtherestless · 11/06/2020 12:47

Consumption/throwaway society
Transphobia
Massive amounts of travel (i.e. short haul business trips, city breaks etc)

AntiHop · 11/06/2020 12:47

The normalisation of extreme porn.

Pangur2 · 11/06/2020 12:48

Most zoos (here anyway) have shifted their focus towards preservation, but I think American roadside zoos like yer man in Tiger King’s will definitely be looked back on as completely wrong. I mean, most people think they are pretty wrong now, but I think they will be seen as completely unacceptable.

Allowing transgender women to use women only spaces

tobee · 11/06/2020 12:49

I often think how the young of today would be shocked if they could time travel to their future and see how their children and grandchildren will scorn them!

zscaler · 11/06/2020 12:51

Eating meat
Transphobia

tobee · 11/06/2020 12:51

"Allowing transgender women to use women only spaces"

Also this.

OhioOhioOhio · 11/06/2020 12:51

Do you think our great grandparents would scorn us?

cakeisalwaystheanswer · 11/06/2020 12:52

Polluting industries have been moved to the third world with very low health and safety standards to escape the harsh environmental and safety rules demanded in the west. People have to work in these industries or starve and the countries allow their environment to become contaminated because it is their "best" option for growth. The abuse of people continues it just moves around.

tobee · 11/06/2020 12:53

"Do you think our great grandparents would scorn us?"

Not sure if you're asking generally, but I think they'd be confused by a lot of our choices

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/06/2020 12:53

Eroding women’s rights
Eating meat
Disposable fashion
Fashion
Long haul travel for business
Polluting cars

Hopefully there will be a cure for dementia. Dementia is a cruel disease, cruelest of all for the families. Hopefully we will bit a more empathetic and not expect and pressure mainly women to care for often aggressive and sometimes violent relatives out of duty.
PicsInRed · 11/06/2020 12:56

How women (and their children) are treated by police, and the family and criminal courts.

A fucking scandal. It will be studied and it will be condemned.

The slave trade isn't as dead as we like to kid ourselves.
